RE: Ford to release the F150 in Australia

Well I’m like 22 years old so I still subscribe to the “if it’s too loud, you’re too old” mantra.
Should be growing out of that phase of life here any day!
The blue truck is not that loud though. Flowmaster 40s. It’s not fast enough to be obnoxiously loud , lol.
The black one has a turbo
Between the motor and the tailpipe…..hahaha. It’s loud even if you’re tone deaf where you can’t h
Problem here you cannot modify the vehicles unless you have an engineering certificate. So the bulk of them eun around as stock
Sounds horrible…

Or buy the Walmart Brand for $9 to $12 for 2 1/2 Gal. Been using it since 2005 in three different trucks and no issues.

:B :B :B
Yeah, that’s about what half the trucks around here look like. We live in a rural area with a lot of traffic on the local highway. We can hear those tires roaring/whining long before we see the truck coming down the road. Good friend had one and riding with him you had to speak loud to be heard over the tires and exhaust. That’s what I don’t understand. Never had oversize tires. And loud exhaust went out long ago while still a teenager. :)

RE: Ford to release the F150 in Australia

BB_TX,
I've had oversized tires for a number of years/decades.....but with this said, I usually only go up a size, ie about 20mm wide and inch taller. Usually this has netted me better load handling, traction in most cases, this does depend upon the tread design! I do lose an mpg or two, slower stopping to some degree, again, depending upon some factors.
NOw doing what Grit has done, one of my sons with his 1500 reg cab, 3-4" lift kit, 31-34" diam tires.......his 4.8V8, 3.42 tires and a 4l60E tranny is not liking all that tire to turn! SOme 4.10's would help him.
I seem to generally speaking, mildly modify most of my trucks depending upon the usage.
My current 1500 is a bit more than normal. 2" front leveling kit, 2" rear 1800 lb capacity add a leaf and shocks to match the front struts. tires as mentioned.
It can be fun! expensive, can pizz off a spouse that has leg issues climbing.....
Marty
Tell me about it….lol. Wish I could swap the 4.10s for 3.42s!l and vice versa! Both trucks would be happier!
Seriously

RE: Ford files trademark for F200 pickup.

^While your viewpoints are generally well informed, I think your time above the Maple Syrup curtain is beginning to brainwash you with the socialism.
You know darn well what he’s talking about in the post above. And no, no one is forcing you to buy an EV…..today. But at the rate it’s going, that will be the case in the next decade, maybe 2, tops.
Fine by me, IF the overall cost and convenience are comparable. Which as of now, not even close, except maybe for high mile local commuter cars. And wholly impractical or even impossible in other scenarios beyond the commutermobile.

Bent axle or bent spindle/mount.
If it’s as bad as you claim, you can see visually which way it’s tweaked.

Silverado 1500 Diesel - First impressions

Just picked up a new company rig a couple weeks ago.
2023 Chevy half ton Z71 with the 3.0 Duramax.
Near as I can tell it doesn’t have the max towing package (only because the brochure says max towing (3.73 gears, primarily) isn’t available on a LT Z71…..so whatever, think it’s got 3.42s. Engine power was bumped up for 2023 to 300/495.
This thing scoots and the great mileage is the real deal. Pulling down about 23mpg commuting, call it 1/3 city, 1/3 sitting in traffic and 1/3 doing freeway speed limits ++.
Haven’t towed anything yet, but seat of the pants, feels just as fast or faster than my previous 2021 Trail Boss 5.3, same 10 speed and same gearing.
Will be interesting to see the reliability over a longer term, but this company has been running them since they were introduced a few years ago and continues to, claiming great reliability on the older models.
Mostly it’s the fuel mileage that is blowing me away. I don’t get good mileage in virtually anything I’m in charge of the skinny pedal on. And I can’t seem to make this thing get bad mileage, even driving it like a rental!
Hopefully GM doesn’t discontinue these since they’re the only ones offering a half ton diesel now….

RE: Flat tow 2016 Equinox

We towed trailers that are 2x as long and over twice the weight with an old 2V V10 Class A no problem. A 4-6% grade at low altitude with a 6klb high profile trailer is about a 45mph tops ride up the hill. No problem maintaining highway speeds of 70-75 on the flats.
It’ll tow a little car like it’s not even back there.

All this said, I hope the owners are successful. Not wishing them any business ill will. And maybe there’s a market over there on the eastern seaboard for them. Idk if any other TC brands are mf’d anywhere near the east coast. So they got that going for them likely

RE: Tow haul mode

The MH T/H setting controls the fuel injection timing. When the setting is set to "n", the fuel injection timing is optimized for normal driving conditions. This means that the engine will get better fuel economy and performance when it is not hauling a load. So, unless you are hauling a load, it is best to keep the MH T/H setting set to "n" for the best performance and fuel efficiency.
I’d say that’s almost wholly incorrect. On any light/med duty gas/diesel I’ve been around.
T/H in my experience, or any other “modes”, like sport or whatever, only alters the transmission programming/shift points and maybe exh brake application like on the 3.0 Duramax trucks.

RE: hauling capability

I would second the stability as a major concern as well. An example last week it was very windy here, coming back from Boise on I-84 the cross wind was brutal. I saw a pickup in the other lane coming toward me in what appeared to be about a 20 degree lean fighting the cross wind. As I passed it, it was an F something Superduty SRW crew cab, not the that brand probably mattered, it would have been the same regardless what brand I am sure. If that was the type of camper I wanted, I would probably make sure I was driving a DRW. Those slide in campers, especially the larger ones catch a lot wind, and have to be a little scary on uneven ground.
Yeah, scary is relative. Some folks are scared to leave the house on a sunny day without an umbrella and galoshes. (You know who you are…)
And others have no problems with motor sports that involve a little danger and some also have the knowledge to know what is “scary” and what is “DANGEROUS.”
Depends where one is on that spectrum.
First TC, first drive out of the literal gate was a 2 ton TC with a 7klb utility trailer behind it, family in the cab, dogs in the back of the trailer in crates, 3/4 ton with airbags only and a 2200 mile drive to AK with the frost heaves still swole up.
Scary? Meh, not after a couple hours. The rest of the week I would categorize as annoying and wished I’d had the time to get a sway bar on it too….
Ultimately took a few more weekend trips around the Great State before deciding to pony up for the extra shipping cost to get a sway bar up there.

RE: Ford files trademark for F200 pickup.

It’s a patent…..those get filed everyday for things that never come to fruition. All it is, is taking the first ticket to preserve your spot at the head of the line.
However if you believe what the internet says and the local Ford dealers who have a line up of Lightnings sitting on their lots, not very many people want an electric pickup truck.
Why you think the leader in EVs, Tesla, has held off on the ugly azz cyber truck?

RE: External Fuel Tank for Generator

It would take like 10 minutes to plumb it to an outboard motor boat gas tank provided there’s an adjacent compartment to put the tank in and able to drill an access through or out to the generator enclosure.
Sounds like OP doesn’t know anymore than one mechanic is telling him though and unable to discern what the problem (s) or legit permanent solution requires though. So I’d suggest a second opinion.

RE: Beach Roamer Campers

Another pipe dream "coming soon" BS operation... If you can't put units on dealer lots, you should not be advertising. People see something and want it NOW. If you can't at least facilitate SOME sales, get some units out there in the hands of the general public, NOBODY is going to place an order for "spring 2024."
Businesses that operate on pipe dreams and empty promises rarely succeed.
"Prices start at $17.500" but the least expensive model they list is $40,000... What does the $17.500 buy you, a door?
^True story.
And the $17,500 version gets you a diy shell so you can complete the remedial carpentry and electronics class and have your interior diy match the diy look on the outside….lol.
But to be fair, I’m sure there are people who’d do that. Heck there’s folks on this forum I’d put money on are thinkin it’s a good idea right now!

Looks like a cheap steaming pile of ____ that someone who was just handy enough to be dangerous built in their garage…. Complete with the wtf is that kind of window doing on the front of a camper?
Maybe it’s a good thing they haven’t spent a bunch making any stock units for sale. They might end up owning multiple ugly campers….
This abomination brings up the old saying “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”

RE: Black and Grey Tank Replacement

I think your thought process is off.
Unless you strongly suspect you have 30 gal of rotten bacon grease in one and a petrified sht mountain in the other, both of which can’t be removed, I feel it’s still a venting issue.
I mean, tanks all stink after a few days or week of use, so what makes one think that a new tank getting the same use won’t just stink after a while.
I could be totally off base and who knows the use condition and care of YOUR tanks besides you. No one. Just seems odd to me.
Idk what it will cost but won’t be cheap when you roll a 40’ pusher in for “elective” surgery.

RE: Ca emission control starting 2024

California regulations have no exemptions or lower standards for older rigs.
Even in Calicrazy, it doesn't work this way. Older rigs get grandfathered in. You can't create laws retroactively. Doing so in this case would be a violation of the taking clause and would be struck down in court.
How’d that work out with the semis?
