RE: towing with a Tesla

OK if a gallon is 34 kWh and a gas vehicle goes 10 mpg and the EV goes 30 to 50 miles on that same energy there must be a bit more math involved or some laws of physics are broken.

RE: towing with a Tesla

Regardless of its 'ability' to tow, it's still a pretty lightweight vehicle for the job. I'll take a hard pass on that one.The video does mention the EV is relatively heavy for the size with a low center of gravity that really helps with handling as it tows.

RE: towing with a Tesla

Hi all, https://youtu.be/FX5lzqzZ2Do a ten minute video. Can Am in Canada has long been famous for setting up unconventional vehicles that tow really well. I believe this guy really knows what he is doing. Far more than most dealers even if he pushes the limits.

RE: '21 RAM Big Horn 3500 DRW CC/LB 4x4 with NEXEN Tire WOES!

I recommend Goodyear Wrangler® All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar® that is available in that size for far less than $2000. This is top line GY and will serve you well. https://www.goodyear.com/en_US/tires/wrangler-all-terrain-adventure-with-kevlar/2732-74863557200000.html?back=tireFinder Goodyear will come out to you and replace the tires right where you are.

RE: Will Air bags make a big difference?

Trailer Specs Hitch Weight 663 lbs GVWR 9463 lbs Dry Weight 5777 lbs Cargo Capacity 3212 lbs Vehicle Specs 4WD: Double Cab, 5.8 V8 9600 lbs / 4354 kgs – 5.3L (3.42 axle) I would count that as 9463 trailer and the truck is maxed out. Drive and adjust your expectations accordingly. How much does the rear sag once fully connected to roll? May need to tighten up the distribution bars if the rear drops more than a couple inches. Anything in the bed?

RE: May have towed too much weight

Was the transmission hunting gears or shifting frequently? May need to manually hold a lower gear at times and keep the engine rpm up and minimize shifting. Drive slower helps. Especially up hills. Ask about adding an auxiliary transmission cooler.

RE: No DC Power after shutting down generator

2000w inverter works regardless. Inverter works tells me there is plenty of working battery power. Verify voltage on the battery and along the path to the stack of 12vdc fuses. Eventually there will be a spot with voltage on one side and not the other. Better yet... take it in under warranty.

RE: When impatience hurts!

^^^It would be interesting to know if the truck was accelerating or decelerating and it's speed. Usually most people have to be seriously frustrated to make those types of moves. It's 100% the class C's fault but I'm curious what led up to the class c driver make that move.Looks like the semi in the #1 lane was passing at a small speed differential and the C was impatient. The window was closing as the C pushed through. People do this all the time. Usually they make it or back down. Sometimes the passing vehicle that has the right of way will slow down.

RE: Does Generator wattage size effect battery charge time?

Five years is worth the upgrade. Easy self install if at all handy.

RE: Does Generator wattage size effect battery charge time?

No mention of the converter brand... however if the battery voltage never gets to 14.2+ volts it will be a slow charge to 100%. Could take 8+ hours from low to near full charging at a common 13.6 volts. It is a WFCO WF8955PEC The manual has some weird statement saying it reaches 14.4v but a multimeter will only show 13.6v “If the output current reaches its maximum (normally caused by a discharged battery), this will cause the converter to go into Bulk Mode, which means the target output voltage will change to 14.4 VDC and a timer will start. Although the converter is outputting 14.4 VDC, you will not be able to read that on a voltmeter due to the voltage-current relationship.“That is a bunch of BS to hold the claim all is fine when the converter has a poor design that simply fails to work as expected. If the WFCO was in boost mode (14.40v) the voltage would steadily climb from 13.6 to 14.2+ in an hour or less. In virtually all RV installations the WFCO fails to work as expected. Really need a replacement to minimize generator run time. Most any 20+ amp portable charger will also work well if there is already one in the garage someplace. https://powermaxconverters.com/product/pm3-mba/ https://www.bestconverter.com/PD-4655L-MBA-WildKat-55-Amp-Main-Board-Assembly-for-WFCO-8955

RE: Does Generator wattage size effect battery charge time?

May need 20% to 30% additional apparent power as most converters have poor power factor. Either listed generator will run the converter alone just fine. No mention of the converter brand... however if the battery voltage never gets to 14.2+ volts it will be a slow charge to 100%. Could take 8+ hours from low to near full charging at a common 13.6 volts. Monitor the battery voltage to know what the system is actually doing when a fast charge is expected.

RE: Does Generator wattage size effect battery charge time?

As long as the generator meets the minimum power necessary to drive the converter it will charge at maximum speed. Too small and the generator will overload and give nothing. For best answers on fast charging... post the battery and converter details.

RE: Do golf cart chargers always charge to equalize voltage?

I recommend the Battery Tender brand. Yes it will go through equalization every time. However the cycle is shorter and the equalization is limited to 2 amps to avoid the excessive bubbling. This slows the rise in voltage and slamming the batteries at max for hours. I used this (12v version) on my golf batteries in the RV for 20 years and it works perfectly as expected. Never felt there was an excessive overcharge during the equalization. https://www.batterytender.com/battery-chargers?output-voltage=48V Shop around

RE: 12v rv freezer difficult to open,,,suction

Just tape a 1" piece of small diameter metal tubing to the gasket to break the seal and allow pressure to equalize. That small gap will barely affect the efficiency of the unit. The tape alone might provide plenty of gap. Don't need much. Could take three layers of duct tape to create the gap.

RE: 12v rv freezer difficult to open,,,suction

Yes a pin to the gasket should be fine.

RE: Changing from lead acid to LiFePo4 battery?

While working I discovered the battery is now at 100% charge. It says that on the top mounted display. Just using the basic WFCO converter but I did hook the panels up for about 3 hours the other day. I’m not bothering to change out the converter. I’ll just buy a stand-alone charger for $40 if I later decide I need it.Any chance that you monitor the voltage and you see 14.2-14.4 as the low battery gets charged would indicate the existing WFCO is working properly. Mostly WFCO just goes to 13.6 with flooded batteries due to poor design. The 13.6 is fine just a bit slower and may not trigger cell balancing. The solar will complete the charge and allow the balancing at top charge. Have yet to read a good report on the WFCO lithium converter. Others are available if/when needed.

RE: 2022 Salem destination rv has no 12v batteries

Problem is how connect the batteries in parallel to existing 12v system. I'll see if I can find a schematic for my rv.Remove the covers around the converter and the stack of 12v fuses and get some pictures and post them up. http://photoposting.is-great.net/?i=3
