RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

What would be the nefarious "agenda" of the EPA? Are there legitimate non-government scientists who disagree with the info they provide?

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

Yep. One of the few places on the internet to find so many "don't need no science" anthro-whatever climate change deniers. I'll likely tire of it soon, maybe even before they die out! And hey- aren't you supposed to be at work this time of day? Usually condescension is best served by those with some level of superiority. I don't see that here. People usually resort to those tactics when they run out of ways to communicate effectively. I also don't see any climate change deniers. What I do see is a lot of folks who pick bits of science to support their agenda. If you are so bent on the climate change solution, I have news for you. Ev's aren't it. They aren't even green, let alone more green than ICE's. Mining, caustic waste, continued reliance on the power grid, manufacture, shipment of raw materials, disposal of used batteries, etc etc. All of which solve zero problems with respect to the environment. Just kicking the can down the road. We won't address the continued support of poor humanitarian conditions or continued reliance on foreign countries. Why are EV's better again? So you are on board acknowledging man made climate change but you don't think a move from ICEs to EVs will help? Well here's the scoop. Bad metals, slaves, yap,yap Thing is, this isn't new info. It's been available to anyone truly interested. TL;DR? EVs are greener.

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

Would be interesting to know which of our EV haters are also climate change deniers. Separate blather from an informed post. Seems concerns are often repeated here that could be resolved with a quick Google, makes me think some folks just don't care to learn. That would be interesting. As far as I am aware, I have not met anyone who denies that the climate changes.:W Haha- yep, I should have said anthropogenic climate change but it's a big word and I had to look up the spelling....

Skirt, skirt, skirt and cherry pick points to sell your position. My truck is superior in every way - including efficiency - to any EV for for pulling my FW. After a few misses you may actually be right about at least part of this!:S

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

You don't think utilities will increase once demand goes up from EV's? And that cost amortized to those that don't own EV's? We are talking a huge ramp up in electric infrastructure. I mean, we're already paying musk billions with subsidies. Dude, I've seen your posts and respect you, but this is a pretty thin argument. This is just inaccurate. As I posted earlier, 6%-8% if EVs are adopted as rapidly as hoped and that's over a period of at least 20 years. Google for yourself if you like. These things just aren't the huge power sucks some folks like to imagine.

RE: Rivian R1S

I don't think I've ever seen either model on the road but apparently we now have a local service center. Think the building was a Chrysler/Dodge dealer awhile back.

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

^^^ Ahhh I guess the good news is that EVs are predicted to require only a small increase!

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

In other words “the cart before the horse” (in terms of power generation) is a false argument against adoption of EVs because increasing power generation requires there be incentives for the power companies.I don't have a clue what all this means. :h

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

Some areas, like NE PA, are winter peak, usually on a cold NIGHT, not summer peak. I imagine the entire northern half of the US is this way. Good point and we recently had a grid issue here in TN during cold weather. As with the debacle in TX awhile back, it was caused by mismanagement rather than lack of capacity. Still, regardless of season, we are looking at under 10% increase needed just for EVs and that's over 20 years.

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

For those thinking and/or posting “the cart before the horse” comments about the lack of grid resilience & power generation capacity for EVs; I have a follow up question. Will the entities responsible for the grid/power generation build in more capacity if there isn’t increased demand from EVs (or other power consumers) or a government mandate? You can Google for the various estimates but most show between 6% and 8% additional grid capacity needed over the next 20 years, using optimistic estimates of EV adoption. EVs are primarily charged at night, so don't contribute much to the "peak" problems we see. Nevertheless, like most infrastructure, the power grid needs upgrading, EVs or not.

What these boards appear to be afflicted with is a runaway case of "get off my GD lawn" syndrome ROFLMAO. What a bunch of kooks. Every other thread on these boards is a doosy unlike anything I've seen. That said goodbye, have a wonderful life, over and out. Consider my account closed. After being a member for TWO whole days!!! A tremendous loss for the forum.Yep, good riddance. Obviously just came here to troll. Probably a sock.

RE: EV alternative for light/medium duty trucks

That's all pussygood, and will be right up until until the powers that be slap on some sort of mileage tax, EV tax, call it what you will, to make up for the lost fuel tax revenues. You can bet your arse that's on the way soon. If history of such things holds true he'll then be paying more than the original $300.00 he paid in gas. Add to that the current energy policy in the US is driving electricity and other energy costs through the stratosphere, and you're just seeing the beginning of the fiasco. Give it a year and your electric bill is going to look more like a mortgage payment coupon.Another class act, welcome. Maybe check back this time next year, see how your prediction worked out.

RE: Flying J / Pilot to install megachargers for med/heavy trks

5 vs 2? I keep reading "math math math" (though more accurately arithmetic) so I figured I'd get on board. As you noticed the number of pairs in the drawer is probably irrelevant to the solution. Perzactly! Yet it’s not irrelevant when making a calculated decision or analysis of SO many other things. Like say, being able to calculate the amount of rare earth metal used PER VEHICLE or more accurately per vehicle mile. Not trying to start an argument here, but the turnip truck that I fell off of dropped me in engineering school and if I was to casually dismiss “arithmetic” and statistics whenever convenient, people would be dead and I would be best case unemployed or in jail, worst case dead as well…lol.:)Hey, I know my limitations. I'll not debate arithmetic nor math with an engineering school grad! It's said there are three kinds of people. Those who understand math and those who don't!!

Here's one for the big brain math whizzes. Say your feet are chilly, you want to put on some socks. You have wool and cotton. You have 5 pair of wool and two pair of cotton. The wool are warmer and you have a good supply. But but but.... you've become allergic and the wool will cause a terrible rash. The docs say it will turn to gangrene and kill you. Which pair do you choose? Let's just stipulate that hoping for a pair of polyester to show up isn't an option.:h
