RE: New to diesel fuel

I've beem driving various GM and Ford diesels since 2005. I never put anything in the tank but diesel. These vehicles were all driven regularly so tje fuel was always new.
DEF will eventually expire. I would fill your tank if it's going to sit for months.wouldn’t it be better to not fill the tank so you can put fresh stuff in when your ready to go again?

RE: Do we have a pickup glut already?

Except GM has a new policy that employees cannot sell vehicles for a profit for 12 months after purchase.
Now if they only had a policy that their dealers can not r ape the buyer by charging $5K or more over MSRP. I personally hope new sales slide off the cliff, which seems to start to be happening and accelerating. So basically you’re hoping for a deep (off the cliff) recession or worse?

RE: Can the grid keep up with EV use?

You’ve also posted peer reviewed studies that said masks prevented covid. Guess what. I guess science changes as time goes on and you learn more and more. Now to figure out if Pluto is really a planet as was the science for the last 90 years.
Pluto has not changed in the last 90 years. What has changed is that the classification system has changed as more similar planetoids like Pluto have been spotted by more powerful telescopes.
Some science is completely settled and no longer changes. Sure there is incremental engineering refinement but the basic science stands.
For example, Albert Einstein received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for discovering and explaining the PhotoElectric Effect. 100 years later we have billions of solar panels utilizing that PhotoElectric effect worldwide. "What has changed is that the classification system has changed as more similar planetoids like Pluto have been spotted by more powerful telescopes."
Thank-you for making my point: As scientist learn more through the years, science evolves and changes what was once "settled science".
For the rest of ya'll, my post wasn't about masks and Pluto (masks and Pluto were used as examples of changing science), my post was about peer reviewed studies.
Can we get back on topic?

RE: Can the grid keep up with EV use?

I have posted links to studies (not opinions websites; peer reviewed studies) which you have implied are fraudulent. Where’s your evidence refuting these studies as fraudulent; where’s your links to published studies supporting your opinion?
Let’s see if I can summarize your stance.
This is my opinion on climate change, you cannot refute my opinion with peer reviewed studies on climate change because of this example of a fraudulent study from a national institute of health grant, and until you refute my opinion with studies I won’t provide studies to back up my opinion.
With this “logic” you clearly win. You’ve also posted peer reviewed studies that said masks prevented covid. Guess what. I guess science changes as time goes on and you learn more and more. Now to figure out if Pluto is really a planet as was the science for the last 90 years.

RE: Can the grid keep up with EV use?

We do realize all houses built today in warm climates have central air conditioning. Those without central air survive with windows shakers.
The so called grid in the 1950's was not built for air conditioning.
Somehow the grid as kept up with advancements in technology and comfort.
The thought that the grid will fizzle out because of EV is short sighted. The electrical infrastructure serving my house was installed in our backyard in 1953. The main backbone infrastructure has not been upgraded since being installed. Without a very expansive outside financial input, there won’t be a infrastructure update. My backyard is only 1 of a 150 million backyards. Power plants, substations, and transformers are one gargantuan cost, the 150 million last mile(s) are even bigger. No money no bueno.

RE: Can the grid keep up with EV use?

Depends. California mandates every motor vehicle to become EV and all new homes to not have any other source of energy than electrical. They are looking at a grid equal to the totals output capacity of several Grand Coulee Dams generation.
Interties, transmission, distribution capacity would have to increase 4-700%. Are you ready to see four to seven times more electrical towers? Nuclear plants? What's the daily KW needs of a 70,000 pound cargo truck in mountainous terrain? The link provides some background and ultimately say we may need 10% more power over 25+ years.
Where are your numbers to get to 400% to 700%? Just to clear up a misconception. The article does not say “ 10% more power over 25+ years” it says we need 10% more power just for EV charging, it doesn’t guess at how much more in total we may need. Mex’s post was regarding Total output capacity” apples and oranges.
By the way, the DOE puts that number at 38% for EV’s alone.

RE: Voting in South Dakota may change

as i understand , the gist is that only those who have real property in South Dakota, not just a mailing address, will be allowed to vote.Sort of, the gist is the address has to be a real residential address, not the local laundromat.

RE: Grand Design 2670MK

Many slides have a gap between the two floors, depends on the particular slide. There is a rubber piece that keeps what’s outside from coming inside; and generally a transition piece between the two floors. The particulars depend on the slide.

RE: How to keep a TC from being stolen when not on the truck?

Don't know about a trailer, but there is a lock that goes around the hitch pin on a 5er and I assume that they would have a like lock for a trailer coupling. They would have to destroy the hitch to get the lock off. Then of course, they could not steal it anyway. You’re assuming that a thief that was out trying to find a fifth wheel to steal wouldn’t have a battery powered cutoff tool (or torch - if he’s really serious) with him. Ever hear about the catalytic converter thefts? However, any thief that is going to target a TC, 5er, or trailer is going to want to have that particular unit pretty badly to begin with, because they are not normally easy targets for a quick buck.

What’s to stop someone from stealing a fifth wheel, travel trailer, Motorhome, etc.? IMHO it seems to be pretty much a nonissue. Stick dog appears to have the best answer.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

If no out of state campers were allowed in state parks in Florida how much would “tourism” revenue go down? Precious little considering Disney, Universal Studio, Cape Canaveral, private parks and condos full of snowbirds, etc. Some of you seem to have the belief that as campers you’re integral to Florida’s survival and should have a vote in their affairs. I think you’re overestimating your value ($$$).

RE: Dometic ceiling fan inoperable

If the fan only can come on when the vent cover is open, then there is a switch in the vent cover. Use a volt meter and check the vent cover switch. You can also jump/bypass the switch to see if it is malfunctioning. You can jump the 0 - 3 switch also to see if it is malfunctioning.

RE: Bill giving residents priority at booking FL state parks

That's a straw argument - I'm pretty sure the Florida residents spend as much money in florida as the snowbirds by about 5 times over.
You never get ahead with that, all you're doing is passing that dollar round and round to the same people. You need a steady influx of new money to make a real profit. So no money ever crosses state lines except from tourists. Well there’s a concept Ford, Walmart and every other business in the world might dispute.
