RE: AIRBAG LIFE

If it's just your gauges going down it's probably not an airbag.
Does the coach go down? If it does, does it tilt when it leaks down?

RE: Steering wobble.

I had a 30ft 86 HR Alumilite, we had many wonderful trips in it. One thing I recall was that it was prone to vapor lock. Vapor lock is when the fuel gets so hot that it boils. The fuel pump and carb doesn't know what to do with vapors. There were some modifications to help with the issue.
#1 was a sheet of aluminum that guided air to move past the pass exhaust manifold.
This was to get rid of the heat near the fuel pump etc.
#2 was to move the fuel line to the outside of the frame rail, away from the exhaust.
#3 was to install a fuel pump at or inside the tank, fuel under pressure is not as
prone to boil or vaporize.

RE: Issues with Premier Freightliner

Actually, I think you probably stand better odds of finding a good & fair independent shop. An independent has an owner who hopefully values his reputation and can make any decision he wants, hopefully in your favor.
Now we don't want a greasy hole, fly-by-night operation with vehicles parked all around that you know will never run again. We're looking for a shop that takes pride in the place. I like a mechanic that pretty much already knows what's wrong even before hooking up his computer. But, that's just MHO.

RE: Issues with Premier Freightliner

You would be better off at an independent shop anyway. Pretty much the same at Cummins. Personally, I would try a mobile diesel mechanic

RE: Steering wobble.

I see some RVs with extreme overhang at the rear. That could exacerbate any overloading because that's where the extra weight is likely to go.
If you have ever pulled a trailer that was way heavy in the rear then you know how important weight distribution is.
Acceleration shifts the weight even more towards the rear that's why the wobble kicks in.
Depending on the location of the tanks those could play a big part.
BTW, I consider those tires unsafe. Even if they were new, 4 to 5 yrs
puts them near the end and sitting all that time cannot be good.
I would replace them all. Rearrange your weighty items and go somewhere.

RE: Have possible electrical issue with horn

This is the 2nd time this week that I have heard of a hiway horn. That's a new one to me. On another forum they were discussing this topic & no one knew anything about it. But the owner had the switch and it was mentioned in their manual. As I recall they couldn't make the city horn work or find it under the hood. The general consensus was it would most likely be an auto horn ( elect ) for city and the air horns for hiway use.
So, does your coach actually have separate horns for city & hiway?
If it does which one is stuck on, or is it both?

RE: Have possible electrical issue with horn

If it were a stuck solenoid, pulling the fuse would not stop the horn.
Not sure what you mean by the switch but I'm thinking it's probably shorted wires to the horn button on the steering wheel or the horn button itself.

Is it a factory item? If you think it is you should ask here.

RE: Won’t start

If I feel it's not gonna start I won't be worrying about Cummins or emissions
Makes perfect sense.
Why do you "feel it's not gonna start"?
Do you know the cause/symptoms?
And, hopefully unrelated to the suggestion to let them idle for 15
minutes, as, yes, that is in a vehicle that you have faith in.
I was speaking from his ( OP ) shoes when he said at a rest stop it won't start for
2 or 3 hours.
I'm not waiting that long if I can help it by leaving it running for a few minutes.
No doubt the cause needs to be addressed.

RE: Won’t start

Leave it idle while fueling…leave it idle at rest stops unless you’re going to be there for more than 15 minutes. Shutting down diesels without a 5-10 minute idle is not good.
Please post a link to that advice from Cummins!
And, with the newer emission controlled engines long idle time has more significant negative effects.
Totally agree on a "let it idle until the turbo is cool" (ranges from 1 minute if you have been on slow city streets/CG/etc to perhaps 4 minutes of just pulling off the highway.
If I feel it's not gonna start I won't be worrying about Cummins or emissions

RE: Won’t start

Were you really low on fuel? Does that engine have a lift pump? ( fuel ) Can you
hear it run when turning the key on? How old are your fuel filters?
I suppose it could but I never heard of diesel vapor lock.

RE: Air Bag Replacement

I've read of many air leaks but very few were the bags.
If you take it in and ask for new airbags that's what you will get and maybe still have the air leaks.
Most owners drive up onto some stacked 2x10s to raise the rig and start squirting with soapy water.

RE: Seat Covers For Tradewinds

They are torn in places
Well, that complicates it some but depending on how severe, they can do wonders repairing vinyl, usually you can't even find it.
I'm sure it would look much better than slip-on covers, the cost might be too much tho. Used car & RV dealers often know who is good in your area.

RE: Seat Covers For Tradewinds

Are they just looking worn & tired or actually torn up?
There are companies that refinish seats and make them look new plus they will come to you. A fellow over on the IRV2 forum had his done and seemed very pleased.

RE: Retile

What size tiles do you have now & have they cracked? I imagine the larger the tile it's more apt to crack. Yes, tiles are heavy, you could probably look at the box & figure it out. I would probably go with the vinyl.

RE: Ceiling surface balooning when rear A/C has run a while

Yeah, sounds like a leaking duct. Some have accessed the area through a nearby light or air register. If that's not an option you can cut a hole and install a new register to gain access. Leaks like that can severely affect your cooling.
