Just sit back and enjoy the journey, folks. Life is not always about the destination.

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

I've been following your project for a long time. I have to say I get a kick out of the ingenuity and sheer determination you have in order to address weird problems or construct one off tools. I am curious though how far along you are on your rebuild. Any chance you can post a few pictures of the full coach inside and out? I'll try to get one inside soon, as I have to do a little "clean up" of the inside. Things tend to get a little cluttered in such a small space. It's been really cold here for a couple of days, and supposed to start warming up tomorrow and for the next few days. That should help. Having extra grandbaby duty this week didn't help, but she's a real cutie. I know, everyone's grandchild is a cutie! Lol.

Welcome back! Do you think it's a bit much to make 7 posts to explain that you used a razor knife to cut some foam? I like to be thorough! :)

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

Sometimes, what I am trying to portray in my head, doesn't always make it on "paper", like I think it should. In case I didn't get it across properly, this is what I was trying to say concerning trimming the insulation after gluing it in place. Hopefully, this makes sense. I could not do this with a normal utility knife, as the blade is not long enough. https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/window.frame4.jpg

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

Here is how things look before cutting the extra off with the box cutter. Like I said, it was much easier to cut these off after it was glued in place, rather than try to cut the insulation before gluing it in place. https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/window.frame3.jpg

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

This pic has a lot more going on than the last one. The red arrow again shows the groove for where the screws go. The double green lines, is the space between window frame, and the frame of the wall. There needs to be a little clearance there to allow the window to be slid into place. Yeah, that was a long time ago. When I glued the insulation to the wall, it extended past the frame of the window. The area between the 2 blue lines was insulation and needed to be cut off. I figured it was easier to extend the insulation a little bit and then cut the excess off. The yellow line is where I put the loooong utility (box cutter) blade, and just cut through the insulation right next to the wall frame. Easy as pie.... https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/window.frame2.jpg And that, is how and why I bought the box cutter. It worked very well to remove the excess insulation, and leave the insulation flush with the side wall.

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

This begs the question, why even buy a little box cutter like that, when you already have a utility knife? Glad you asked. Below is a pic of one of the corners of a window frame. This happens to be the one on the copilot's side. The red arrows point to the little groove which is where the screws go to hold the window in place. You know, those screws which go all around the window from the inside through a piece of trim. Yeah, those. This is the groove for those screws. https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/window.frame.jpg

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

Turns out, that cutting insulation is now a breeze, compared to a normal utility knife. By extending the blade out, I can now make a single cut through 1/2" thick insulation in one smooth swift cut. Makes life so much nicer. Yay! https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/game.changer2.jpg

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

It appears the critics have silenced another interesting topic. Merry Christmas to all. I suspect he will return when there is some additional progress to report. Just as it should be. Thinking of the season, I am sure there are other family priorities in play over the coach. If he doesn't post by the end of January, Early February, then we might have to get our fix-it thrills elsewhere. Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year to you all as well. Critics have not silenced me. It appears I might have slightly underestimated the effect of a little 18 pound human on the grandparents. Lol. We have ended up having waaaayyyyy more interaction with her than I anticipated, and being nearly 70 years old ... well, after a day of interaction with her ... we both just want a break. Lol. Couple that with a few items around the house that took over the "must do" category - you know, like not having water from the well. It seems the better half like to have running water. I haven't lost my intention to continue working, and I certainly plan on not waiting to the end of January to do it. Things are starting to smooth out a bit, like getting the big lumps out of the mashed potatoes. I have to get through this week and next with extra year end computer work, and we should be good to go. Thanks for checking in. As Arnold said ... "I'll be back".

Man. This thing is going to need a complete rebuild after they are done with the rebuild! Yay! Another project! Wahoo!

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

Did I happen to mention that I like my Pt Cruiser? Well, I did, I know. As my mom used to tell my dad sometimes.... We've heard that story 50 million times... MOVE ON! Lol. Anyhow, since 2x3's have come down from an all time high of about $6.49, to $2.98 each, I bought 10 of them. https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/ptcruiser2x3.jpg

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

I got my 2 layers of plywood glued and nailed in around the window, (red arrows), to level up the surface, so I could put insulation on it. Then I glued the insulation on. I used smaller, separate pieces of insulation to minimize waste. It's also easier to deal with a small piece than it is with a single, large one. https://paddleupstream.com/mohorebuild/copilotswindow4.jpg

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

I have been amazed how one little 18 pound human can interrupt Moho work for the grandparents, though. Lol.
