Don’t worry. Won’t hurt anything.

RE: 2011 Winnebago Sightseer

Thanks for all the replies. I decided not to buy it. I was just going to take for a test drive. The windshield privacy curtain was blocking my view and as I pushed it back I noticed a whole in the side just aft of the driver's window revealing a water leak and rotted wood. Not sure how extensive the damage was but it looked like the rot went from at least from above the window to the floor based on the condition of the wallpaper and the punky feel as I pressed on the sidewall. Very disappointed. I looked for water leaks early on in the process. Thought I did a good job but for some reason I didn't pull back that curtain. Feel like I got lucky and dodged a bullet. I think you dodged a bullet there. Plenty of nice units out there. Keep looking, you’ll find one that’s perfect!

RE: tow with all wheel drive?

The newer stuff may have an AWD setting, then 4WD lock N and 4 low. But yes you can tow with them.

RE: Water heater Anode

You’ll have to edit you post because i can’t understand it. I think you are asking if you should remove the valve and install the anode? But yet you are saying the anode is leaking! Did you wrap the threads with Teflon tape? That will stop the leak u less there is an issue with the tank! And yes you need the anode rod.

RE: F250 upgrades

I would add airbags, as they are easily adjustable for differing weights. With that said. If you added a truck there are 2 different ratios you can order. Those being the only 2 differences can net you an increase for in towing ability by 5k lbs. sometimes more, sometimes less.

RE: MGVWR and problems titling trailer

Curious what the yellow sticker says for dry weight and what it CCC is?

RE: 2011 Winnebago Sightseer

I would skip it. Along with all the known problems you are in for, they also have roof issues. Check out AZExpert on You Tube. He repairs a lot of current Winnebago roofs.

RE: Sway Bars

I still don’t see where the OP has distinguished between sway bar and WD bars. N his opening post he said he had sway bars on his bigger trailer. We would have to assume he is talking about WD bars. That said, he probably doesn’t need a WD hitch, but a sway bar would be recommended!

RE: F53 trailer hitch

Ok so here are frame rail extensions and Forest River reinforcements. As you can see they did a very good job in the installation and the welding. I just crossbolted them for a bit more strength. Didn’t get the new hitch out on as it came the day we were leaving, but I felt comfortable for he short tow home. Towed my truck home from Illinois State University. MH did very good with the truck. Had a very strong east crosswind. Trans even stayed in OD with no hunting between gears. I did notice that it downshifts a bit sooner at overpasses. We had 3 extra people on board, full water and the truck had full fuel as well as about 150lbs in the bed. We will see how it does in 2 weeks. https://i.ibb.co/5n7f7CY/16-AE4-CD4-D227-4-A21-9-B76-BA71-C792524-F.jpg width=600 https://i.ibb.co/b3nq2SL/2086-A8-FD-154-F-41-B9-B5-C4-4-FD85-BAF366-B.jpg width=600 https://i.ibb.co/zVdzC7b/80-A1-AB76-C5-A7-486-A-B118-1-C9-BF787143-B.jpg width=600

RE: When impatience hurts!

Ive seen this quite often, even more so in the last 10 years. people in just about every vehicle feel the need to do 80mph! Trucks and some RVs are the worst. I even had a tour bus loaded with people pass me at what I would assume was 80-85 (I was in the right lane locked in at 70!).

RE: TPMS question

You can use the TPMS sensors with the trucks factory stems. They are high pressure and have a reinforced brass insert inside the rubber. I use the TST sensors on my Explorer and my Ram which have the same stems. I don’t use flow through sensors though as they are just too long and bulky. I use the cap sensors which are smaller.

RE: F53 trailer hitch

If changing I would have a custom hitch made, standard ones may or may not work with an RV chassis because the RV company usually add an extended frame to the F53. Yes they add extensions. But the dimensions are exactly the same as the Ford frame. In fact from the drivers seat back the chassis is an F550. The F53 comes in as an incomplete chassis. So an F550 hitch will bolt up. Although Etrailer does offer a MH specific hitch for the F53 chassis. So it will hand about 2.5” lower than the RV specific hitch.

RE: F53 trailer hitch

What's wrong with the stock hitch? Adding a bigger hitch won't necessarily add more towing capacity. Depends on a lot of factors. The OE hitch is marginal at best at 5k lbs. I have the capacity to tow 6500lbs. I would just like to upgrade it for the improved capacity and overall stronger hitch. The rest of the MH is up to the task! Yes I know about frame rails, gearing and such!

F53 trailer hitch

Hello everyone. Looking to change out my hitch. 2012 F53. There are 2 that will work, but the one I like hangs lower than I would like, but is made better. They are Curt 14048, rated for 10k lbs. this one is built the Best but the cross tube hangs low. The other is Curt 14082 and is a specific fit for the F53 but it looks exactly like what I have now. Both are rated for 10k lbs. I won’t be towing anywhere near that, just want something better than the cheap hitch FR installed. And yes the rear frame extension have been strengthened. So it will handle a couple thousand more than what is rated for. Also, there won’t be any tongue weight, maybe a bike rack and a toad! Has anyone used either of these? Any comments on how these fit, (hang low on the rear). Thanks!

RE: Trailer Toad

You also missed a great positive. There is an extra set of brakes in the toad!

RE: Twisted Receiver Square

I’m sure it wasn’t welded properly, I’ve seen that before with new vehicle parts. It’s probably not detrimental to the hitch and will not fail. But it will not work correctly with a WD hitch. Not to mention it would drive me nuts looking at a crooked hitch whenever I walk up to the truck.

RE: 2011 Sunstar

We have a 12 Georgetown. It’s on the same F53 chassis with the same engine and trans. We tow our Explorer which sometimes has 4 bikes on a platform bike rack. 2 of those are E bikes and one is a fat tire bike. The car is just under 5k lbs. it performs very well. I would highly suggest a tune from 5star. It made a huge difference in my V-10 Excursion and my Class A. Can’t say as to the quality of the sun star. I think it’s made by Winnebago. If so you may want to check out some of the roof replacement videos from a guy call AZ Expert. He does RV roof repair. Most of his repairs are water damaged and/or sagging Winnebago roofs. Just something to consider.

RE: Twisted Receiver Square

In my professional opinion my suggestion is to avoid any diesel the word Eco in its name!this comes from years of being a diesel mechanic. Maybe the GM is OK, but I wouldn’t want the possibility.
dodge guy 04/23/23 01:58pm Tow Vehicles
RE: Twisted Receiver Square

Now that you say it’s a diesel I would skip it. Look for a non problematic gas engine, with a good hitch!
dodge guy 04/23/23 09:03am Tow Vehicles
RE: Twisted Receiver Square

More than likely it wasn’t welded properly when made. As long as there is no damage I would insist on a new hitch. With a WD hitch, being off like that will mess up the weight distribution from one side to the other.
