RE: Black Tank Treatments - Yay or Nay?

No RV chemicals for me. Every few dumps I'll add some Calgon liquid and some blue Dawn detergent, but that's it for us. As far as flushing, I flush every time I dump unless I'm in a hurry and I'm staying someplace with full hookups the next night. Once the water flows clear, I'll close the black valve and keep the flush running for a moment to add a few gallons to the tank so there's something to swish around. Try not to overthink it.

RE: Gilette, WY to Idaho Falls

I-80 across Wyoming is the way to go, but it's not very scenic. Watch out for the high winds going across the plains. They can be insane.

RE: When impatience hurts!

Did you folks see the video of the woman doing a Rosco P Coltrain on a tow truck (That's what I call it when a "Dukes of Hazzard" Jump goes.... Bad) She had to be texting. Not sure who "Roscoe P. Coltrain" is. I presume he is the star of the TV show. https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/thedukesofhazzard/images/f/fb/Dh_rosco.jpg width=500

RE: When impatience hurts!

Well there are couple things he could have done different that don't cause any drama: 1. Don't even be in the left lane passing and likely speeding to do so. So how do you recommend he overtake the slower truck?

RE: Bad Experience at Little Dealer Service Department

I’ll never forget the joy of finally being out of warranty and never having to deal with their service center again. I’m so much happier now just using mobile techs. It’s worth it to pay out of pocket.

One troll (new member) kind of stank up the thread. Sorry to see that. And sorry that the thread is so short after nuking his posts and the responses.

RE: Some sites just are not accessible..

Some of us are checking the forum from remote areas, camping if you can imagine….. Other than the typical cutsie click-bait thread wording is it too much to ask that people CLEARLY state that a click will send someone to a bandwidth crashing, system locking HD video? Thanks from the remote wilderness of Cannuckistan….. You can hover over the link to see what it's going to be before you click it. That's a good idea regardless of bandwidth to make sure you aren't clicking on something like pr0nhub.

RE: Fresh water tank taking too long to fill...any suggestions?

Screw in connection is usually the black tank rinse. Not necessarily. I've got three screw-in connections: 1. Black flush 2. City water connection 3. Fresh tank fill Mine fills slowly too, but my blocker is in the vent and not in the fill. If I fill mine too quickly, it will puke out the vent line. My two problems are a narrow vent and a small line to equalize between my two 60 gallon fresh tanks. My half-baked solution has been to put a valve on the end of my garden hose and then a meter after that and before the inlet on the coach. I zero out the meter, guestimate at how much water I need for the trip, set the fill rate low, set a timer on my watch, and then let it run while I do other things while I'm packing. It's very imperfect and I hate it, but it works for me.

RE: Some sites just are not accessible..

I didn't watch this whole video, but I love this stuff. I've watched a lot of "Matt's Off Road Recover" videos from Utah and that guy is a saint. One thing that seemed pretty shocking to me in this video was that they hooked the winch strap to the tow ball, which is a great way to get decapitated. Don't ever try that at home, kiddies

Your wrong, … Nice manners. And I love the irony of misspelling “you’re” when you called someone “wrong”.

RE: I Bought A Travel Trailer I Had Never Seen (in person)

After a number of failures I made a habit of never buying anything worth more than 100 dollars without seeing it in person. The habit saved me tons of money and time since then. New member. First post. Welcome to the forum.

RE: Weird sounds at night

We get birds on our roof all the time trying to peck open a nut. If you're adventurous enough to climb a ladder, go up to your roof and see if you can find any clues (bird poop vs. rodent poop). I wouldn't be too concerned though, as long as the noise is outside and not inside.

RE: Didn't Think Much of These - Screws Under Vinyl Insert Trim

Someone messed up when your MH was made. This should be printed right below the RVIA sticker on the side of every new coach.

RE: Twist-on sewer valves…

And as far as the twist-on valves, I never used one on our last trailer, but our "new one" (seven years old?) had a gray valve that wouldn't fully shut and I was tired of working with the dealer for other warranty issues. I just slapped on a twist-on valve for safety and never looked back. It's great insurance.

RE: Twist-on sewer valves…

I'm OK with bleeding off some gray water into the bushes "in theory", but I've seen it go very wrong in practice. I pulled up to a perfect campsite out in the desert once. It was just the right size for our group and there was a great fire ring. Unfortunately, the last campers had dumped their gray tank and destroyed that site for weeks. They obviously didn't scrape their plates before they washed them, so their gray water was full of pasta, veggies, proteins, etc. The puddle they left behind smelled like hell and there was a cloud of flies, rendering the site useless. I checked back on that site before we left at the end of our weekend and then checked it again when we were in the area a month later. The site still stank and it was still a playground for the weird alien bugs that live out in the deserts once it starts to warm up. So bleeding off some of your shower water doesn't bother me as long as you do it slowly and let it seep into the ground in one spot. But pulling the dump handle and letting everything go (especially your nasty garbage if you don't know how to do dishes) makes you a pig who doesn't deserve to camp in the wild.

RE: FAILED LOG IN

Hi All - Just to close out this issue... * I reset Executive's account so that he could log in, and he reset his password. * We can only have one account at a time, so I nuked his "Executive45" account and renamed it to "Executive45 DELETED" to free up that member name. * Per his request, I renamed his "Executive" account to "Executive45" because the Executive name refers to the RV brand and not Dilbert's pointy haired boss. Please don't read anything nefarious into the DELETED part of his temporary member name.

RE: Camping With Toddlers

One issue we had with our oldest at that age was dealing with a little human who is eager to move around but you're camped in the dirt. We were on a trip through the Southwest when our oldest decided that she was sick of crawling and she was ready to stand up and see the world. The problem was that we didn't have any shoes for her and we ended up having to stop at a cheesy tourist trap trading post and buy her some moccasins as her first shoes. They did the trick for the rest of the trip until we got home and were able to get her some real shoes. We never had any trouble with the sleeping arrangements though. All three of our kids would just go-go-go until they ran out of gas and crashed in place. And then we could pick them up and bed them wherever we wanted to.
