RE: Design ideas for a platform to lower camper onto...

I have thought about a cart but at over 5k, it seems like a recipe for disaster. I have casters that can easily carry the weight. Fortunately I have a spot to unload in my building and leave it.

RE: We saw the Annular Eclipse in Albuquerque Today, Awesome!

We weren't in the area of totality, but it was notably darker indoors even though it appeared to be full sunshine.

RE: Rank your RV issues

Mice, my previous Forrest River Solera had a super highway open underneath that allowed them to get inside our cabinets. Poop and pee all over out pots and pans. I crawled all under the rig and finally spotted where they failed to foam fill one 2x2 area. I stuffed it with copper mesh and sprayed a liberal amount of black foam in there. No more mice in the passenger area. But the MB Sprinter chassis diesel left a nice path for them to build a huge nest in the engine air inlet. They also chewed a few wires under the hood.
So we built a building and parked it inside. No more mice issues.
Other than that, things have been pretty good over our 9 years of camper ownership.

RE: AA and AAA Rechargeable Batteries

I also use a lot of eneloops. But some things dislike the 1.2 volts vs the standard 1.5 on alkaline.

RE: Now that's a heavy camper!

It looks perfect for a 550/5500 size truck. What I am unclear on is what bed is needed to mount one.
I just now read the link. Looks like its more set up for any flat bed now.
My biggest gripe is the incredibly long steps. I can see an issue when pulling into get fuel, passenger gets out to use the bathroom or make a snack, sets the steps down only to block the next lane.
Still it looks nice on the inside.

RE: AA and AAA Rechargeable Batteries

Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart. Should find one every 50 miles or so. Costco has large packs we stock up on at home. Then take a hand full with us when camping.

Or maybe look at adding a minisplit. Outdoor unit on the back bumper.

RE: Using Camper without Power

Starting the generator might have been hard without power or super long jumper cables.

RE: all breakers blowing

They need to get a qualified electrician over to diagnose. Seems like a fire is a real possibility if all breakers are tripping. Probably a simple fix but needs done right.

I sold my last one on RVTrader. Took two weeks. No regrets.

Poor driving. Impatience. Lack of awareness. Driving angry. You pick. Its just a bad choice any way you look at it.

RE: Ram 5500 Front End Alignment Issue

I have been to two dealers that will do a 3500 but not a 5500. Say their rack is not big enough. Might be because mine is a chassis cab with slightly longer wheelbase. My biggest complaint is it wanders a bit. The wheel has a bit of slop and it takes a lot of concentration to keep it between the lines. Not dangerous just annoying. I have less than 3000 miles on it and no sign of uneven wear yet.
I could live with the wheel off center if it drove with authority. But that's not the case.

Ram 5500 Front End Alignment Issue

My new 2022 Ram 5500 has never felt like its aligned properly. The steering wheel is canted to the right a bit. I have called three ram dealers, two of which sell commercial trucks. None have a rack big enough to align a 5500. This is in Oklahoma. Anyone know of a decent repair center around here that can align a new 4x4 Ram 5500?

My camper came with two remotes. One wired and the other wireless. Is it possible you have a second remote?

No one was injured which is good news. Sounds like they were trying to get them all moved so it wasn't a surprise to anyone at the scene.

RE: DRW vs SRW safety, tire blowout

I feel more tires is better, also bigger is better. Its why I went from a F350 Single to a F450 Dually and now a 5500. F450 was super stable, 5500 takes it to a whole new level.

RE: Ford's issues

Its the dealerships that really cast a shadow on manufacturers. Charging huge markups just because they could and when was the last time you bought a car at a dealership. It takes hours. Sure ford has had its share of issues, but so does everyone else.

Trucks have become really expensive and unfortunatly I don't think we have any EV truck that can replace current ICEs for most cases.

RE: Good Sam or KOA

I tend to take a KOA over others when traveling. The worst is often still decent for overnight stops and often priced accordingly. If I am staying longer than a day, I will shop around for a well regarded park. I have only found a few that would not honor Good Sam. And those that do rarely want to see any proof I am actually a member.
