RE: Pantry Road Trips

I like to shop Amish markets. I can find spices of all kinds, all kinds of pantry items, including gluten free. When back in Indiana, I go to Shipshewana; there is one in Dayton, Virginia; the Berlin, Ohio, area, etc. I want to take a little day trip to Pinecraft since I'm in Florida now.

X2 for Shipshewana. The Amish markets are excellent. We have found some of the best pancake mix there. All sorts of spices and spice blends.
And don't forget Ben's Pretzels. Unlike any other and they just kind of melt in your mouth!

RE: 83 and have hung up the keys

We fulltimed for 15 years and my DH died on the road at age 70. I drove back to our newly purchased snowbird home and sold the big rig while keeping the 22' rig we bought to take to Alaska. I have too much arthritis to manage hooking up a toad. Traveled for 3 years in the little one and I just bought a 2021 Coach House, exactly what I wanted. Sold my little one to people who stopped by. I'm 72 and planning my next trip. Got an ebike to do trails, etc.

RE: Handling home office equipment - hanging files

I was never a fan of the hanging files. We were landlords the 17 years we fulltimed and I needed file space. We had opposing couches in our Phaeton, so we had one removed and put in two recliners, then had a custom file box built by an Amishman in Nappannee to place between them. It had full extension drawers. Plenty of room for all the files I needed and nothing ever moved that was inside. We had it made with two tops using a piano hinge. So when I needed a desk, the recliner was pulled out and I turned my kitchen chair around, flopped open the top and had a desk where I could work and not take up table space. Great setup.

RE: Sue T is she around?

It shows her last post was in June 2022. I thought for sure I had seen something since then. Perhaps what I saw was a reference to a previous post she had made.
She is such a wealth of information about RVing in Alaska. My husband and I met her and her husband when we went to Alaska in 2013. We boondocked at her place. It was a great experience to learn from her.

RE: Fall 2023 Adventure

You might consider Harvest HOsts. You can stay for free or low cost for one night generally. But you are mostly boondocking, so no hookups. Wouldn't want to do it everyday as you would run your batteries down, but it would give you a break from campground fees. These are safer as they are on family farms, wineries, museums, etc.
I haven't ever run into $130 fees. . . more in the $50-60 range, but in big touristy areas you might.

RE: Brevard County Florida camping fee changes

I'm not sure raising the rate 200% is the answer to what they perceived to be a problem. That may just keep local residents from signing up. We used to camp at Wickham park but haven't now for years. It was due to the homeless, the dead bodies (yes, dead bodies) and inconsiderate campers, i.e., loud music, loud and profane yelling, etc. They had no restrictions on campers and one group would tow their motorhomes in because they wouldn't run. They all camped around the bathhouses and basically took them over to where you didn't even feel comfortable using the laundry.
What caused the most problem, in my estimation, was the 5+ months of camping. Rules weren't enforced and too many homeless. The changes they made to address that resulted in removing the habitat for many of the animals which we enjoyed seeing.
Dale
I think raising the rates and shortening the length-of-stay would really help clean up some of the county parks like Wickham. We live close enough to that park that we visit there often; but I'm not sure I'd want to camp there due to stories of what goes on after dark. Also - blaming Snowbirds is a favorite hobby in FL, it seems....LOL! Much easier than addressing long-term problems....
I drove through there 2 weeks ago when I was staying with my granddaughter. They have removed so much of the "woods" behind the campsites that there is nothing between the camp and the parking lot for the college behind it. You used to have a feeling of being out in the wild, but now you are basically in a parking lot. And the lights from the game fields was bright before. . . must light up your site like daylight. They have ruined this park for campers who like peace and quiet. I will never stay there again.

RE: New Working LGDs

Positive test confirmed.
We’ll be starting the treatment asap.
Duke will not be working while undergoing treatment.
We’re making our game plan for dealing with young inexperienced Penny protecting the flock but not causing issues during lambing.
It's been about a month. Any update on Duke? How goes the lambing?

RE: Confused about GS Roadside assistance membership

If you're in Florida, best to try Boulevard Tire first. They can dispatch a truck to change your tire. They have multiple locations. Their service guys can change out all the tires on an 18-wheeler. If you need a tire as well, they won't **** you on the cost. Also in Florida, on the intersates call *FHP and they will dispatch a road ranger who can change your tire.
We learned this the hard way.
Road service will generally not cover the tire. They cover the service csll and labor. That said, Boulevard Tire will not work with your road service. They say they have been burned by them too many times, but the cost to swap a tire was $75. That was a few years ago, but I'm sure they are still reasonable. A real "stand up" company. We would have saved $300 and 6 hours if we had called them first.

RE: 1st night camping in our yard, 2023.01.24

I just got back from my shakedown cruise. Drove 90 miles away to the mothership (factory) and had some warranty stuff done. Got my 2 TV's set up. . . not that I will used them, but wanted to know how to access over the air channels. Did one the first night, the second the next night. Learned how to activate the A/C, heat pump and furnace from the Firefly. That doesn't sound like a big deal, but there is a learning curve.
Used my induction cooktop for the first time. Success. Used the micro/convection successfully.
Overall, think I'm going to love my new (to me) coach.

RE: Cassiar Highway

Planning to take this route when we drive from Seattle to Alaska in May, spending 4 - 5 days travelling, and stopping for hikes. We are from UK, and my question relates to satellite communicators/phones. We, at home, have a Spot (with no messaging facility) for emergencies, but we are following our RV trip with a cruise, and the cruise line states clearly that this would not be allowed on the ship. Our preference would be for a two way communicator or phone, and I am looking for recommendations of somewhere we could rent one in Seattle and return it in Anchorage. Any help would be much appreciated!
The cruise line doesn't allow a Spot? When we went to Alaska we had our Spot. I used it to send a message every night to our kids so they knew where we were. We cruised on the Alaska ferries and nothing was every mentioned. We also rented a satellite phone and took it with us for the trip. My DH had health issues and I wanted to be able to get help if something happened to him. It was cheap insurance. We never used it but it was available if needed.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Best wishes to you and Zuzu. I'm sure she will do fine. I didn't go to the Tampa show because I don't like crowds and since I just bought my new rig, I didn't need to look. But I would have liked to look at accessories.
I currently am down at the mothership in Nokomis getting my service work done. Some was scheduled by the previous owner, but then my backup camera went out. I'm getting an entirely new camera that is actually a rearview camera. . . even better! This one can be on all the time. I can use it to see what is behind me. I had wanted that originally, but my coach didn't have it. It will now. Yay!
