RE: Dump stations

Sometimes on a weekend while there's nothing going on, I'll just stop at a Camping World and use their dump.

RE: Charging House Batteries

Lifepo4's are generally rated appx. 4000 cycles at 80%. So if you drained them flat and recharged them every day, they would still have 80% of their capacity after 10+ years of hard use.
So given how most of us would really use them, there's no reason to worry about being nice to them.

RE: Radiator style radiant heaters

Keep in mind that they dont put out any more or less heat than any other space heater of the same wattage.

RE: Ram 2500 6.4 gas Towing 5th wheel.

I have truck and fith wheel as shown in my signature. It tows/pulls like a dream and half the time you don't know it's back there. Recently completed a trip from Florida to Ontario and back and no issues. 10.5 mpg for the whole round trip. I used to have diesel truck but went with this one for the extra payload capacity for the 5er and due to the price of diesel. I used to get 10mpg towing with my diesel, so I am coming out ahead right now!
As to the coil springs - never noticed any difference from the leaf springs in my old 2002 CTD.
Good info. What gearing do you have?

RE: Electric Outlets

I have never seen a breaker that used screw terminals. They all have clamps where you push the wire straight in the side and screw a clamp down on top of it.
You're right - my mistake.
But it still isn't an issue.

RE: lamination on 5th wheel

Do you mean the front cap? There were some years where heat from the sun was causing delam problems in that area. Or it could be leaking from a clearance light, etc. and that wouldn't necessarily show up on the inside.
Either way it has to be peeled back and re-glued.

RE: Electric Outlets

I've run 1500 watt space heaters off those outlets for 15+ years without any problems at all. I suspect the ones that overheat weren't connected properly.
As far as using outlets with screw terminals, if that were an issue, we'd be having broken wires at the breakers since they connect the same way. (I do prefer installing the clamp type outlets though)

RE: Trying to find a replacement window: 8505-2 (maybe?)

Unless you're certain it's held in with putty/tape, have someone hold the window from the outside when you remove the inside trim ring. Manufacturers are starting to just use foam rubber as a seal and it doesn't bond the window in like the (good) old putty did.

RE: 2008 inferno electrical issues

Sounds like either the converter, battery or both have failed. As Don said, you need to monitor the voltage when this occurs.

RE: exterior solar plug

You could just take a volt measurement of the connector. If it has 12V then you at least know it's hooked to something.

RE: Steering problem...looking for ideas/causes

It should not be driven like that. If a tierod breaks it will cause the tire on that side to suddenly and violently turn fully outward.

RE: exterior solar plug

If it's like the one on my Arctic Fox, the wires that attach to that plug go down to a place behind the battery and are just coiled up there. They aren't connected at all.

RE: Steering problem...looking for ideas/causes

A tie rod or ball joint is not going to jump the steering 30 degrees and stay there. With that type of failure the steering would become totally uncontrollable. More likely a steering box problem. JMHO
This. A Tie-rod could only do that if it's badly bent - like from hitting something. And if they drive it that way, the tire will be destroyed very quickly.
I think your friend isn't telling you something.
