RE: Diesel to Gas Power Observation

I watched for 5 minutes, but couldn’t bring myself to waste an entire 20 minutes on this. I’m never one to give much credence to anecdotal statements about what is selling or what isn’t. As I am generally interested, I’d love to see real sales numbers of what the breakdown is of diesel vs gas in HD trucks (as well as 2500 vs 3500 sales). I know you used to be able to find that, but I haven’t seen it in a while. The truck that they bought is a pretty truck. But I really can’t see buying a DRW with a gasser. I hope they are happy with their purchase. I wouldn’t be. I see a lot of Ram 4500/5500 Ram Hemi powered trucks. Just seen a fairly new Ram 4500 flat bed with a welder on the back with a Hemi badge on the fender just a few minutes ago. A few years ago Ram HD's were essentially all Cummins powered, but I've seen this trend towards gas for a few years now. Which leads to the next question. Since there rumors that the Hemi is going out to the pasture what gas engine will Ram utilize? Gas powered Cummins that soon will be released? Cummins is developing a 6.7 gas engine and Ford designed and released a big block 7.3 for a reason. Wish them good luck with their cams in those Hemi's in service trucks if they leave them idling for hours at a time. No gasser goes down a step mountain with a heavy load like a diesel with an exhaust brake.

RE: Armada to Pull 33' Lightweight TT

A 31'-33' TT on a mid size suv with P tires may not make for a fun towing experience. Thats a long tall wall for side winds and passing semis to push on. Now if the suv was on a '08 3/4 ton chassis 6.x engine and 3.73-4.10 gears with LT E tires with 5xxx fawr and 6xxx rawr then it would be a great handling combo in the wind on on the interstate around semi trucks. AKA as a rare 2500 Chevy Suburban! One has to go back to 2001-2006 models however to get the 8.1L with Allison transmission, with is a towing beast and likes gas.

RE: Armada to Pull 33' Lightweight TT

I have towed a 29' 5th wheel with a 2001 RAM 2500 from Phoenix to Palm Springs with 40 MPH wind out of the South towing the 5th wheel trailer. That rig you are talking about would be parked or blown into the desert in pieces. Time to think seriously about the other 5 souls in the tow vehicle. Not sure I would want to tow a 33' TT with my 2021 F-150 that is rated to tow 6600 pounds. I towed a 39' 5th wheel from Arizona to San Diego with a 2015 RAM 3500 SRW and the wind in the canyon leaving Az and into Ca on I-8 was brutal. I have towed though Nv in heavy winds all day. I have seen several crashed TT over the years, all towed by SUVs with shorter wheel base as noted above.

RE: Broken Frame on a RAM 3500

I found out that it's a short bed truck with a camper for a long bed. Radically changing the dynamics. Then compound that with the extended hitch and motorbike. Wow what a risk! The only short bed dually RAM is the Mega cab and this a crew cab.

RE: Not bad for 11 years and 240,000 miles.

Most people enjoy living with blinders on. My RV has a factory scale weight of 18,075# plus 400# for gen. Would anyone actually think it now weighs 24k? It sure does and only way I know that is from actually weighing the RV. Lucy has all those rocks that go back and forth on the West Coast!

RE: Not bad for 11 years and 240,000 miles.

Chris, how much did the Camper weigh ready for the weekend? Can't remember. The Chevy was bagged, the RAM was not. Over 3K for sure, most likely close to 3500-4000. From an older post here by someone: "Lance 900 which is 11' 3" long ad weighs a little over 4,000 lbs loaded and with 50 gallons of water." Pic shows how the 1st and 2nd gen SRW RAM's can really handle a load. However the 16.5 tire/rims on the 93 were a little bouncy!

https://i.postimg.cc/bwQm6ZXd/IMG-1108.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/6pNk5Jt2/IMG-1111.jpg Still running the factory brakes. New fuel pump at 180,000. Miscellaneous items and regular maintenance. Doesn't use a drop of oil between oil changes and that's carrying the 4000 lb camper fulltime. It sure has been and still is a great truck. The truck in this picture does not seem capable of carrying a camper of this size, especially 240,000 miles? https://i.imgur.com/6DjAQmbl.jpg Well how about this one then, a move from a 1976 K20 to a 1993 W250, all from days before duallies became the go to truck. And before the RV.net weight police became a national police organization! https://i.imgur.com/Ev1pUyfl.jpg

RE: Overloaded or wrong truck?

I had a 11.5 Lance that most likely was way over weight on both of these trucks and never had an issue. Camper was way over 4K. 1976 K20 Chevy https://i.imgur.com/6DjAQmbl.jpg 1993 W250 https://i.imgur.com/2gZ5qILl.jpg

RE: Overloaded or wrong truck?

Ram doesn’t make a DRW short bed in a crew cab. actualy the do, My niebour has one. I didn't think they did either. I am not sure if it was a custom order or what, it was his brothers that came with the new artic fox camper when he passed. I was interested in buying the camper but when I went to look at it I found ou it was a short box model. Steve Maga cab, not a Crew Cab. Look behind the rear door windows for an extra 6+ inches of body.

RE: Overloaded or wrong truck?

Looks like there's a whole lot of truck camper hanging off the end of the truck. Maybe a short bed truck, and a long bed camper with 3 slides? Baja California, so add in some rough roads. Sure looks like there’s a lot of panel in front of the rear wheels for a SB ?? At least the way I see it, it looks like a long bed I believe the Maga cab dually is the only short bed model available.

RE: Ford recall issues

I wonder if some of these recalls are just OTA or over the air recalls though. Very few manufacturers have OTA capability. My 2021 F-150 regularly gets OTA updates. They recommend it be linked to home WiFi for quicker downloads. I have it set for 2AM 7 days a week to check for updates. If it is gone some morning I will know the girlie truck down the street slipped in an invite.

RE: Ford recall issues

And my F150 has outstanding recalls with no parts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTiMUOTQO48 What recalls do you have? I haven't heard anything about my 2021 F150 2.7 Tail gate opening on it's own, I have not experienced this yet and the wiper motor. Maybe another I forget! I did get the insulation one completed.

RE: Dealers lots are filling up

I got an education in electronics in the USCG 1965-69. It served me well in all my working years. Retired at 62 as a senior data network design engineer at BofA. I had over 150 weeks, five days a week, 8 hours a day of technical training that only cost was my comment to the USCG, NCR, Department store with NCR POS registers, and the Bank.

RE: New B & W WD trailer hitch

I must be missing something. I don't see anything about that hitch that would make me want to change from standard torsion bars. I have been hooking up torsion bars for 50 years and haven't had much trouble out of them. No hydraulic pump or seal leaks???? No bleed down????

RE: All 2024 GM HDS get the 10 speed Allison.

I didn't go any further than the video with the GM engineer. So you drank the coolaid, and did not get to the part about first guy outside the GM/Allison bubble to tear down the new transmission. It is called cherry picking details.

RE: All 2024 GM HDS get the 10 speed Allison.

Ford and GM co-developed the 10 speed transmissions that are used in half ton and car applications. The 10 speed HD transmissions were not co-developed. Something more to read. https://www.duramaxforum.com/threads/ford-gm-10-speed-allison-transmissions.1013201/
