RE: Generator Camp Security

I all our years of camping we never worried about it. We had the Class C MH since 2006. Only thing left outside were the lawn chairs. We never had anything stolen from our campsites through all the years.

RE: What is the lowest voltage you have seen?

Low voltage (Brownouts) can easily happen in rv parks who have not upgraded their electrical systems. On a hot, full weekend, the voltage likely drop with AC units running. I used an AC meter to monitor voltage. I would turn off our air-conditioner when the voltage started to drop.

RE: Water pump sucking air

Have you cleaned or replaced the water filter connected to the inlet side of the water pump?

RE: 12v rv freezer difficult to open,,,suction

I have seen that happen in the past. If there is some humidity in the air the vacuum is caused when the temperature drops. The damp air makes a tighter seal. You could us a wide screwdriver to help pry the door open and break the seal vacuum.

RE: dead battery has interesting side effect

I am just wondering. If you held the connect button for the house batteries did the gas gauge read correctly?

RE: Amplifier for television?

I had a Radio Shack adjustable 2 to 10 dB gain. The unit was AC powered so I used an inverter to power it off the batteries. It worked very well with the Winegard system. My range increased to 125 to 150+ miles depending on where I camped.

RE: How do you sanitize your fresh-water tank and lines?

I used the bleach method each spring. I carried separate drinking water. I used the water with bleach for toilet and doing the dishes. After refilling the tank water was okay to drink.

RE: Travel Assist Insurance

In our 50+ years of camping the wife and I never bothered getting insurance like that. Getting repairs on the road was never a problem and much less than any insurance costs.

RE: I-40 west from Flagstaff???

You would be best off checking the local news or highway conditions over the Internet. Potholes likely just formed over the last week or so.

Very helpful post.

RE: Would you get new tires ?

I had 2 sets of Michelins on my MH. I have seen posted the Michelins are good for 10 years if you are not seeing any stress cracks in the sidewalls or an unusual tread pattern forming.

RE: Gen shuts off unless “Start” held down

The other post mentioned needed to have the control board replaced. You might want to check the connections to the board first.

RE: Didn't Think Much of These - Screws Under Vinyl Insert Trim

Maybe I should have mentioned that the Hi-Low we purchased in 1984 had screws come loose on the rails the upper shell rises on. The lowest one caused a problem when we went to raise the shell. I ended up recrewing all screws using "Loctite". I would call the one a design problem since this can easily happen in a stste like Minnesota with extreme temperature changes. I fixed the problem about 2 years after we got it. We traded the trailer in 1999.

RE: Didn't Think Much of These - Screws Under Vinyl Insert Trim

Someone messed up when your MH was made. However, unless there is an obvious problem it isn't worth removing good vinyl trim to look for a problem that may not be there.

RE: Banff around the beginning of dec

We have camped with trailers and Motorhome winterized in below freezing weather. You will not have running water so keep some water containers in the RV. You could use the toilet for peeing if you pour antifreeze down the toilet to keep liquid from freezing. You will need access to electricity for space heaters. Furnace would need plenty of propane and not worth the hassle. The park would likely have only an outhouse and no open showers. I would check ahead to see what is open during the winter and open acomidations.

RE: Printer

I have 2 HP Neverstop Laser Printers. One with the scanner and one without They both only print shades of black but are fast and cheap to use. The scanner version would fit your budget. My daughter has the more expensive HP color Neverstop Laser Printer and is happy with it. It is more expensive. I still have an HP Photosmart 7520 I use for color printing, fax, and scanning. I brought it back from the dead after I got the Nonstop Laser printers.

RE: Domestic thermostat ccc2

I have a programable thermostat at home. I have found that deleting the programming and just loading a set temperature worked better. I would think that would work better when traveling.

RE: Power center location (fuse & circuit breaker box)

If the power cord is on the driver's side, the fuse / breakers may be under the couch. They are close to the generator.
