RE: thinking of buying a Motorhome....looking for tips/hints

Great advice Doug. We did that before we bought. Rented class A and class C and then another class A as we knew pretty quickly that was right for us. It then took a couple of big RV shows for us to find the right floor plan. No buyers remorse. Kept it for about 5 years before moving up to a Prevost and fulltiming.

RE: Reasonably decent towed vehicles for a Class A

Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Excellent, light weight and built-in tow option. As mentioned, add a braking system and you are good to go. We use the M&G but there are others.

RE: Tampa, FL: Lazy question

We run a storage facility in Las Vegas. 3 days is fine. You sign a month to month lease with a move in special that's costs a total of $25. Move out anytime! So, 3 days would cost $25.
Check out a site www.sparefoot.com and see if there is anything available on line. Google RV covered storage in that area as well.

RE: Has anyony upgraded to Android 13 on cell phone?

I am on 13 (no idea when that happened) and don't see anything similar on my Samsung S21. A recent update does show any programs running in the background when I use the 3 vertical bars at the bottom to close any open program. Very rarely is anything listed as I close all apps when I am done using them.

RE: Pockett door off track stuck in wall

I know this might no be the answer you are looking for, but if the door is stuck open you really don't have a problem. Just leave it there. If that's not an acceptable long term solution you can deal with it when you get home. I can't see how the door being open is causing any kind of water leak.

RE: refrigerator

YES! No generator necessary. You will have an inverter to keep some number of circuits live when off power (including the fridge) and you will have an alternator capable or keeping the batteries charged while you drive. No worries.

RE: New vehicle reg in TX, is inspection required in this case?

To get TX plates, the RV must go through and inspection first. Depending upon where in TX you register, it may need safety and smog.

RE: What to do when you are not camping for awhile

The generally acknowledged advice is not to start the engine unless you can take it for a drive long enough to bring all things up to temp. You can let the coach sit for the Winter without touching it.

RE: Need Help understanding Charging System on my RV.

The inverter has a transfer switch as well. When you are not connected to shire power or running the generator, the MW is powered by the inverter. When you have 120V service available, the incoming power by-passes the inverter and powers all things in the coach directly from the incoming power source.

RE: exterior solar plug

If you don't have solar and you have an external plug labeled "Solar" that's likely a connection for mobile, ground mounted solar panels. I would try to trace down where the wires go after they enter the sidewall and see if you can find any kind of logical connections.

RE: exterior solar plug

Do you have solar panels on the roof? Have you tried to follow the wires leaving the jack?

RE: Why Does My A/C Have These Slats?

Those slats when closed off, will direct cold air thru the other vents in ceiling. When you want a quick cool down.open them and more air will flow out.
Oh! That makes sense. Thanks. I guess if it cools down quick it will be cool directly under those slats, but not so much in the rest of the trailer.
Actually, it will cool the entire area and it will do it quickly. You can then close the air dump which will quiet the A/C substantially and then maintain the temps in that area very well.

RE: electric RV appliances

I do have to say I used to believe there was nothing better than gas for cooking. However, we now have an induction cooktop and it's far superior to gas. In the Summer it doesn't heat up the coach with all that heat/flame that wraps around the pans and the control of the heat is faster and easier. I hate electric cooktops but an induction cooktop is a totally different animal.

RE: Doris is Dead!

Sorry to hear of your problems. However, we need to know so much more. What kind of coach and is it a 30 amp or 50 amp coach? What are you plugged into (home, campground, 15amp, 30amp, 50amp)? Have to connected the power without the autoformer in the loop? You said you had power at an interior plug but if you plug something in it will not work? Is that correct? I know you are typing and thinking fast but if you could slow down and give us some usable details it would help us try to help you.

RE: electric RV appliances

It's all about what you do, where you go, how you travel, etc. We are all electric including 240V cooktop and 240V dryer. We can only cook (except convection/microwave oven) when connected to 50 amp or running the generator and we are OK with that. We love to dry camp and we run the genset when necessary. We carry 6-4D batteries which handle most of our daily needs but we run the genset in the morning for a few hours and in the evening for a few more. We also have no propane as our residential fridge runs off the inverter without issue or additional genset runs required. We are not solar and never plan to be. The genset uses fuel from our 200 gallon diesel tank so we can sit in the desert for weeks if we wanted to, but why would we want to? We run through fresh water (145 gallons) in less than a week so we are going to have to move somewhere anyway. We generally use that requirement as how long we plan to stay at any one location. This might not work for you, but it's perfect for us.

RE: Wifi a long way away from RV site.

5g cellular and WiFi are not related in any way. There are antennas that will help boost the incoming signal and amplify the out going but it still won't help if the campground service is overloaded as usual.

RE: Towing a toad

If you don't want the size and weight of a Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk or a Grand Cherokee (4x4 wi6th proper transmission) are factory setup to tow. Add the Blue Ox and M&G or Air Force One braking system and you are good to go. It takes less than 5 minutes to hook up and be ready to drive away. It takes even less time to disconnect. I have done the dolly thing and will never go back.
