RE: Ram 2500 6.4 gas Towing 5th wheel.

I stand by what I said, because it is true. If it doesn’t conform to accepted ‘standards’ that is nothing to do with me. My 2019 hemi gets about the same MPG towing my 5er as my old 2004 Cummins. I was surprised when it worked out that way, but it did.
Comparing a modern vehicle to a 15 year old vehicle has little value.
A lot of innovation occurs in 15 years.
Any 2019 vehicle is superior to its 2004 version.
That's comparing apples to oranges. Those 2 trucks are not even remotely close.
It's quite common for owners of todays gas powered truck to compare the performance to yesteryears diesel. Nothing wrong with it as long as its' presented as such.

RE: Ram 2500 6.4 gas Towing 5th wheel.

22 mpg out of 3/4 ton hemi? What does fuelly.com post? 14 unloaded? Your posting 22 mpg, a half ton hemi doesn't reliably get that. I think you forgot to "carry the one" doing the math. Even in a place with no hills and at sea level, your not reliably getting 22 mpg. Short of being pulled by a tow truck, that aint happening.
2003 cummins vs 2022 gas. Obvioulsy the cummins has more data points but the 6.4 truck here seams typical and accurate

RE: Ram 2500 6.4 gas Towing 5th wheel.

I'd think they'd have more of an impact on bumper towing than 5th wheel towing, if they had any impact at all.
They still produce the 2500 with coil springs right? They've been making them since what, 2008? That pretty much says it right there. If the coil springs were a problem, they would have stopped producing them long ago.
Any perceived "problems" with the coil springs were well-discussed BEFORE the trucks were available for purchase. Lots of fretting and hand-wringing over nothing.
I don't think the coil spring rear suspension supports truck campers with the factory setup, but a larger sway bar upgrade may support it.

From what I've seen, the rear suspension with coils is a non issue

RE: 2024 F150 Reveal

Ford's share of government fleet sales is in excess of 62%, and remember, those are very, very low margin sales. Bottom line profitability is a much better indicator to me (especially as an investor) than total number of trucks sold.
I think profitability for Ford trucks as been strong if you look at the recent developments they've implemented (Aluminum bodys, new engines including diesel and gas, 10 speed transmissions, mid cycle refresh, all new designs, interiors, technology, EV Lightning) compared to Ram (HD line still using old design including 1500 trucks still producing the classis models, Ram newest design 1500 is 5 years old and won't be replaced until 2025).

RE: 2024 F150 Reveal

But when you compare it to GM trucks combined, then it is no longer true. It does make a great advertising line, as long as you don't look any deeper than that.
This is true for the most part.

RE: 2024 F150 Reveal

Ford is the best selling truck when you look at all trucks combined. Meaning, the F150, 250, 350, 450, 550 - then compare that to Chev 2500, 3500, etc - then compare that to GMC 2500, 3500 etc - then compare that to Ram 2500, 3500 etc.
Ram also has a 4500 and 5500 trucks.

RE: 2024 Chevy HD DRW and SRW Fuel Economy Test

I am always asked what MPGs does my dually get.
I tell them I don't really know. I did not buy it for economy. I bought it to do a job. Tow my Momentum. whatever it takes in fuel to do it is what it takes.
The follow up qustion is usually:"Well what does it get not towing?
I tell them, I don't know, as that doesn't happen often enough to track it.
My truck is my daily driver so fuel economy is a bit high on my priority list. Having said that back in in '12 it was clear that I wanted a truck that was equipped with DEF because I new it would yield better fuel economy. With 270k miles on my truck, those fuel savings adds up which means more money stayed in my pocket.
Curious on how much diesel is in your area Fish. It's $6.25+ and going to the moon where I live. Electricity is not any better. .38 cents/ KWH at the lowest and going up too. My wifes car takes all night to charge so I have to charge a lot at super high 3rd tier rates. It's now a wash or even cheaper to put gas in it.
I live in Kalifornia. Please send money.
Fuel prices just recently started to creep up again. We're at $3.68 - $4.00 for diesel what I saw yesterday. For gas it's was $3.38 at a Shell station near our house.
Prices will continue to climb until the next election cycle.

RE: Carbon ceramic pads question

Looks like Stoned Panther (what the hell is that :E) is in the minority on this one. LOL :B
A lot of variables at play for brake pad life. I normally get ~120k miles on Motorcraft brake pads. I tow a 22ft boat quite often and a utility trailer with Deere tractor/shredder once in a while with both of them not having trailer brakes so that adds additional wear on the truck brake pads.

RE: Carbon ceramic pads question

Lol, that’s literally the best part of this forum! Well, there’s several. From people who ask where to poop ?? if they get a camper with no toilet, to the pseudo “sponsored” “senior” members who think belonging to a forum a long time gives them street cred!
In all fairness, 12V is a good dude and knows his “stuff”. Even if he lets you know how much he knows, regularly.
I enjoy 12v stories and feedback. Just got to look past the marketing arm once in a while.

Misfires are either a failed spark plug wire or early stages of lifter failure.

There have been some reports of lifter/cam failures, but I don't think it's a widespread problem.

RE: Mustang GTD

Why did we the people just loan ford 9.2 billion dollars? I am sure they got a better interest rate than anyone else can get or a loan forgiveness guarantee. They will never sell enough of these to make a profit.
It's for the image with hopes to get customers excited about the brand. Same reason for the Corvette and Viper. And with a small skunk works team who worked on this project, that cost is in the noise compared to what Ford is loosing on the Lightning EV truck product line.

For you gear heads...Looks like Mustang will put Europe on notice...
Nice to an American icon still powered with a V8 including Corvette, while the Camaro will be discontinued, and Dodge will go EV.
