RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

It's very easy math to figure your weight transfer to the front axle. Measure centerline rear axle to centerline front axle. Now how much forward is centerline of kingpin or gooseneck ball from centerline rear axle. My axle to axle centerline is 170" and forward dimension of kingpin is 4" that is .0235% of 170". My pin weight is 6,000#. .0235% of 6,000# is 141#.Whoops, your math is off a bit. :) 4" is actually 2.35%. That seems low to me too, mine is about the same amount in front of the rear axle and it puts over 200 lbs. on the front axle, and that's with a hitch weight of about 3400 lbs. Don't know about the math, but that's according to the Cat Scale. :) 4 Divided by 170 is .0235 so it depends on how you are doing the math. Take 6000. X 2.35 the number is wrong. Take 6000. X .0235 and it is 141#. I have to ask, did you go thru the scales then unhook and go right thru again?

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

I have never checked to see how much weight is transferred to the front axle on a gooseneck or RV. That said I run heavy, not so much with the TH but with a gooseneck. I am licensed to 40K and typically right on that in combined weight ('20 3500 DRW). I am struggling to believe that such a small amount of weight is transferred to the front axle. It just doesn't seem possible. The differences between the trailer weight ratings between tag and gooseneck on all the HD OEM's just makes that a leap for me to believe. The way the truck sits when loaded heavy between the two types of trailers says there is more than a couple hundred pounds on the front end with a gooseneck. I don't have data that supports what I am saying, and I probably should have, but when I run over scales which is typically at gravel pits, I just look at gross combined. DOT has not hassled me so I run with that. It's very easy math to figure your weight transfer to the front axle. Measure centerline rear axle to centerline front axle. RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

A little more on the "Ball Joints" being bad. My truck is a pavement princess with no off roading no different than the guy in the video. Can't get much easier duty than my truck gets or his concerning ball joint wear. Wait a minute here, I know for a fact that you drive on California highways all winter and commute North in the spring and South in the fall on I-5 in Northern California, which are similar to "off road" roads in other states. No lateral stress like off road. There's a lot of stress on the front end parts when towing a gooseneck/fifth wheel. Are you kidding????? My 6k pin adds around 175# to the steer axle, THAT will do nothing to cause stress on the front components. My hitch is full forward to be clear. If this guy adds 100# to his front axle with the RV's he is towing I would be shocked. If it adds so much stress then my front end should be toast at 102k. No I'm not kidding. Maybe you can explain?????

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

I just replaced my front brakes and rotors with EBC. While tire was attached and off the ground I did the push pull top bottom and sides with ZERO slop at 102k. Why did I replace brakes at 102k??? Because I had a drivers side sticking caliper and inside pad ground into the rotor. So I replaced with OE caliper. I also removed my ABS sensor and pumped AMZ/OIL grease into the hub assembly. Will be interesting if the hub assembly lasts a long time or not.

RE: Question for TEXANS- Class A non CDL

Driving with out the correct license will void your insurance coverage. You could lose your truck and fifth wheel in an accident for failure to obey the law. Sorry I have to call "Barbra Streisand" on that claim!!!!! As a friend would always say "prove it".

RE: 30amp surge protector on 50amp line

My lowest voltage is 93. The Autoformer takes care of that. I do use some surge. I have an AutoFormer but I don't think it will boost 93 volts to an acceptable voltage for some devices. Hi, Mine is a Sola Basic with 3 levels of boost and 2 of buck. At 93 volts it brings it to about 118 volts. "AutoFormer" most people will think about HUGHES AutoFormer. Saying your AutoFormer will boost 93 to acceptable levels is fine but with some clarification adding Sola Basic that is not a HUGHES. Personally having 93 volts would make me a bit concerned about the overall potential for damage. Nice you have something that will boost that much!!!

"hot shots all run Dodge/Ram cummins because they're the best" Here we go again!!! NEVER said "ALL" I have said most. NEVER said they were the "BEST". Must be fun putting words in peoples mouth. Seems like truth will net you more credibility. Bottom line is this hotshot owner has a lot of experience with Ram trucks so thought this would be more credible as your response would be predictable. LOL. Talk about predictable responses. Hey Pot? Kettle here....... The kettle has more to report. Link Bad shocks at 60k that's a non issue. Unlikely any standard OE shocks are good past that many miles. Ball joints at 60k, I highly doubt it. He should show the evidence of this. My 15 DRW that tows much more weight than his truck and over 1/2 of my 102k is towing the ball joints are tight.

RE: Creak when reversing the fifth wheel

White lithium goes on top of the rubber mounts that support the pivot head. Regular grease gun suspension/bearing type grease is for the jaw surface that contacts the king pin. It is also used on the ONE and ONLY grease zerk on the bottom side of the pivoting head. Thats it!!!

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

I work at a dealer an I’ve only seen one Aisin failure. I see far more emmisions failures than anything, DPF, sensors, etc! Before I bought the MH I was looking for a 6.4 gas truck specifically to get away from an issue while on the road. You are SPOT ON!!! I personally know a Top Mechanic and the Parts Manager at my local Dealer, they say the same. So YOU had the only Aisin failure in your dealers history? Lol Very ironic… Never said that, you need to keep track of my posts like "FISH" does. I did say they had two I believe. They replaced both trans no question as they had bad castings causing internal bleeding if I remember correctly. Truth!!!!!! Is my trans did NOT fail from any issue with the trans. Mechanic did not follow proper seperation and assembly to replace weeping gasket. So again you need to keep files of what I have said like "FISH" does. :B

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

Marty said: "I wont go as farvas Ron and say there are NO failures of the components... be them factory problem, or neglect etc from the owner of the rig" I have not claimed no issues with the 22's. Could be or not I really don't know. If this "problem" does exist I am sure it would be a hot topic on the TDR. The guy posting the video sure could have shown some proof of the issue with oil analysis or engine tear down pic burt chose to drone on for almost 30 minutes.

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

Those videos are horrible! nothing but repeat the same sentence from what I can see. He can cut both of them in half time wise, if he would not walk around the truck blabbering about nothing at all. Got two minutes in, quit watching. The link to the 22 page sticky came up after I looked at fish's second post..... Still, this guy needs to get to the point sooner than later. I gave up on both at about 2 minutes. My 02 on these video's. Marty I wanted to quit but I really wanted to see these AISIN failures. But as usual bashing a non subject.Hey, it's a nasty job, but someone has to do it. :) YEA I took one for the team!!!

RE: Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures

It's a problem with a bad batch of Aisin transmissions made around late 2022...read all the info here: https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/2022-aisin-transmission-failures-information.2576640/ Bottom line that matters is this. "In almost all cases, the transmissions were replaced with new complete units."
