RE: Generator question

I have no dog in this fight but I always thought a huge advantage of a built-in was that you could cool the interior off as your going down. Seems like it would be nice to do when driving all day in the heat. We do that now (run an A/C), but without running a generator. Admittedly, we typically don't drive more than 3 hours per day.

RE: Wireless Camera Relay

We have a 42' 5th wheel, 8' bed, crew cab pickup. No signal issues with the Furrion 3 camera system.

RE: DISCUSSION: 8 ft + crew cab vs. SUV

Gents, I'm well aware of 4x4, 6x6 etc designations. I was attempting a little humor. Yet no comments about the car wash complaint. Years ago I was chatting with a trucker on the CB radio. He asked what I was driving and I told him a 16 wheeler. After a couple minutes he laughed and said he got it. I was driving a tag axle DP, towing a pickup with a ATV in the bed. ;)

RE: DISCUSSION: 8 ft + crew cab vs. SUV

We have a Ram 4x6 (why do they say 4x4 when there are 6 tires on the ground?) crew cab, 8' bed. My ONLY complaint is we can't take it thru a drive thru car wash.

RE: Effect of no absorption on LiFePo4?

Some LiFePo4 batteries recommend an absorption stage, it gives the BMS cell balancer time to work. The voltage region that most BMS balancers work in is so high on the charge curve that actual balancing might only last a minute or two. Here's what Battleborn recommends: Bruce Thanks for the BattleBorn link. I have 5 206ah SOK batteries, (not sure what SOK recommends) but it would be nearly impossible for me to hold absorption for 10 hours (via solar charging) for my 1030 ah of batteries. What I do is set absorption to 14.2 volts for 20 minutes. I also set equalization to a schedule of once every 30 days at 14.4 volts. Before anyone tells me I am shortening the life of my LFPs, the batteries are not quite one year old and I am 75 years old, so I think the batteries will outlast me no matter how I charge them.

RE: Generator question

Another option that I am looking at is a generator slide out tray. I could put my portable in the compartment intended for a generator, out of sight and locked up. Then slide out the tray to run (for ventilation purposes).

RE: Help with Lithium upgrade and inverter install. Lance 825

You might be over-thinking things. Likely the biggest amp draw from your 2000 watt inverter will be when you run the microwave and that would only be for a few minutes. If you're planning on running close to the max on your inverter, you should probably go with a pair of the 206 ah SOKs. 200 ah won't last very long with the inverter running at full bore. BTW, I have 5 of the 206ah SOKs. $1030 from Amazon or direct from SOK.

RE: Generator question

Thanks, Lantley. I don't see an issue with that with my 8' bed. Who sells them? Or is it home made?

RE: Help with Lithium upgrade and inverter install. Lance 825

Why not add one 206 ah SOK battery instead of 2 100s? Cost would be less plus more room for expansion. My factory provided converter is unplugged because I have an inverter/charger, which is much more convenient - also eliminates the need for a transfer switch.

RE: Generator question

I've never heard of a pin box mount for a generator. So now I am very curious. Does anybody have a link or more info? For the OP, I have a portable 3500 watt inverter generator (Harbor Freight). I've used it twice due to all the solar I have. And I have a residential fridge. I can also run an A/C unit off the batteries. And frequently boondock or dry camp. But my solar setup would cost more than a built in generator. I would also prefer to run a portable on gas rather than a built in on propane. Just my preference.

OkieGene, Arizona only has so much water available and all the snowbirds really out a strain on the resource. It is estimated the the snowbird population around the Quartzsite area alone is in the 500,000 range. Mesa's population swells in the winter, causing waiting lines at restaurants to go out the door (summers, it's walk in and have a seat). So the year round population gets a little tired of the birds. "So many snowbirds, so little room in the freezer." is heard often among the year round population.

One man's opinion. I for one have never had an issue with Lippert.

RE: Towing 5th with an Andersen Hitch in Short Bed Truck

The little guy has choices. Such as buy from a different company or don't do things that void the warranty.

RE: Towing 5th with an Andersen Hitch in Short Bed Truck

You're totally missing the point, Cummins. A company can choose to warrant whatever they want or no warranty at all for that matter. And the consumer can choose not to buy from that company.
Cptnvideo 01/15/23 08:33am Fifth-Wheels

For sure they all didn't go to the Rio Grande Valley. 100,000 moved to AZ in the past year alone. Add in Snowbirds and traffic is a nightmare.
Cptnvideo 01/14/23 08:15pm Snowbirds

The RV parks in Arizona are full of out of state license plates this time of year. Arizona is a really bad state to spend any time in. All these snow birds should realize this and spend their winters in TX or FL - much nicer in those states. ;)

RE: Towing 5th with an Andersen Hitch in Short Bed Truck

just take it off before you bring it in.....IF you need will they know? That would be a little difficult if that's the only hitch you have , or I guess get someone else with a conventional to tow it in . Publicly posting how to defraud a Company, HMMMMMM It goes deeper than that. The honest people end up paying (thru higher prices) for those that choose to defraud or cheat companies. I would also say it comes under the "Golden Rule". Too bad everyone INCLUDING CRIMINALS do not follow such a simple concept.

RE: Then what?

"I think we have more issues if all the electricity is gone. Last time the power went out near me Safeway and Shell were closed." Good point, goducks. So by going 100% EV, we are kind of putting all our eggs in one basket. Makes me glad I can live off grid.
