RE: Help making a decision on truck purchase.

There are plenty of reasons to like the EcoBoost. But MPG really isn’t one of them. They never have gotten significantly better MPG than comparable engines.
OP, I’d look at the numbers on the door and the real pin weight but it’s hard for me to imagine that a 1500 isn’t capable of towing a 7000 pound GVWR trailer.

"hot shots all run Dodge/Ram cummins because they're the best"
Here we go again!!! NEVER said "ALL" I have said most. NEVER said they were the "BEST".
Must be fun putting words in peoples mouth. Seems like truth will net you more credibility.
Bottom line is this hotshot owner has a lot of experience with Ram trucks so thought this would be more credible as your response would be predictable.
LOL. Talk about predictable responses. Hey Pot? Kettle here.......

RE: Ford 10R vs Allison 10L

The 68 in my truck isn’t the best transmission that I’ve driven. But knock on wood it has been reliable. It will soon be put to the test though.

How many miles?
106,000. It’s always been a dedicated tow vehicle.

Congrats on the new purchase. I am sure that the wait will feel much longer than 6-8 months. Those new trucks are sure nice.

RE: Alarming spalling failures on 7.3 Godzilla

Glad we can always count on the Ford Marketing Arm on RV.net to change the subject and deflect to a claim of problems of other manufacturers. Some things are as predictable as death and taxes. Nothing to see here…..

But I thought this was the “gold standard” of gassers? Towing just got harder......

RE: Ram Reduces Max Tow Ratings

Well thank god for fish, who can find any negative or potentially negative news about anything Stellantis related.......
So, tell me the practical downside of this? Despite internet folklore, I am unaware of any legal implications of the manufacturer tow ratings. And it doesn’t have anything to do with your insurance coverage. MAYBE a manufacturer could deny warranty based on exceeding it, but outside of that stupid photo of the huge camper on a truck with a broken frame (which would be payload, not towing), I don’t know of any instances of this happening.
But I am sure that someone here will claim their cousin knew someone who knew someone who had something bad happen to them due to this......

RE: MPH vs MPG

@Cummins12v98, do you really notice any difference in MPG towing tandem with that little trailer? I tow my 18’, around 3500 pound Ranger boat tandem fairly often, and I don’t notice any difference in MPG vs just one trailer.

RE: Diesel to Gas Power Observation

I watched for 5 minutes, but couldn’t bring myself to waste an entire 20 minutes on this.
I’m never one to give much credence to anecdotal statements about what is selling or what isn’t. As I am generally interested, I’d love to see real sales numbers of what the breakdown is of diesel vs gas in HD trucks (as well as 2500 vs 3500 sales). I know you used to be able to find that, but I haven’t seen it in a while.
The truck that they bought is a pretty truck. But I really can’t see buying a DRW with a gasser. I hope they are happy with their purchase. I wouldn’t be.

RE: 2024 GMC and 2023 Super Duty

My daughter ordered a new Bronco coming up two years ago and we still haven't got a production date. Maybe if you order a new Super Duty today you'll have your 350k miles on the '12 by the time the new one shows up.:)
Guess it depends on what you order. Both very small ford dealers in the Murphy NC area have 4 Bronco sports on their lots. 2 with 1.5 Lt and 2 with 2 Lt engines.
The Bronco Sports have pretty much always been easily available. Its the Bronco that competes with the Wrangler that has a waiting list.

RE: 2024 GMC and 2023 Super Duty

Hard to believe that trucks have doubled in price since I bought my 2014 .
Trucks have not doubled since 2014, or even 2004 for that matter.
LOL. Have you shopped trucks lately? Prices may have not doubled since 2014 (not far off, but they have more than doubled since 2004.
My 2003 RAM 3500 Laramie (top trip at the time) was $35000. A comparable 2023 is around $90,000, with top trim levels above $100k.

RE: 2024 GMC and 2023 Super Duty

In before the "RAM doesn't need more gears" comment......
It sure would help with improving fuel economy.
And noise level by running lower RPMs. And the simplicity of only having ONE transmission for their HD line. And getting competitive in HP/TQ in the 2500s…..

RE: Filtering Our Diesel Storage Tanks For on Road Use

To get back on topic, unlike many here, I would absolutely recommend some sort of filtration to go from your storage tank to your OEM tank.
I have a aux tank dumping into my OEM tank. Twice I have had in-tank fuel pump replaced due to failure. While the dealer won't give a definitive cause they say it is possible that debris caused the issue.
I now have a diesel safe small inline fuel filter between my tanks. It is clear, and when I changed it after 5000 miles I could see debris.
A fuel filter is inexpensive insurance against a $1000 repair.

RE: Overloaded or wrong truck?

Ram doesn’t make a DRW short bed in a crew cab. And the minimum payload in a DRW in 2020 was over 6800 pounds. I’d like to hear more about what happened leading up to the failure.
Do you mean maximum? To get 6,800# payload would need to gas tradesman. My 2016 3500 DRW Laramie has a payload 5,411#.
The chart I found in a quick search did in fact limit the trim to Tradesman (although the gas has a higher payload, the CTD Aisin is what I quoted). I can’t find anything for higher trim levels, but regardless, the photo above wouldn’t be caused by just the load of the camper (regardless of brand of modern DRW truck was under it.
