| Hello, Just purchased a 2016 Eagle Cap 960. One of the first things I noticed when I climbed up the ladder there wasn't anything there to grab. I called Eagle Cap and they recommend a Maggie roof rack. Wondering what other Eagle Cap owners have done. Please post pictures if you can. | Our ladder does not wrap onto roof. Simple rail ![[image]](https://i.imgur.com/mcVrMsM.jpg) Amazon Stromberg-Carlson-LA-500 I wouldn't use as a 'luggage' rack but works to get me up, more importantly down with something to grab. 01 Ford F250 4x4 DRW Diesel, 01 Elkhorn 9U Our camper projects page |

| So your Eagle Cap 960 did not come with a roof rack or ladder? Our Bigfoot came with a Maggie Roof rack and ladder. The rack and ladder don't connect at the top either but as you get to the top of the ladder you grab the roof rack and help yourself onto the roof. Pretty easy transition. | Hi David, The camper did come with a ladder. The factory recommend a Maggie roof rack. Not real crazy about putting it on if I get one though. |

| If you don't need a full roof rack they make a top grab rail roof rung that is separate from a full maggie rack system. you can see it above my ladder in the photo 2011 F350 6.7L Diesel 4x4 CrewCab longbed Dually, 2019 Lance 1062, Torqlift Talons, Fast Guns, upper and lower Stable Loads, Super Hitch, 48" Super Truss, Airlift loadlifter 5000 extreme airbags |

| I've thought about that too. Buzzcut1 is your's metal or plastic? If plastic how long have you had it mounted? |

| The racks on campers are fairly useless and are really there to just provide a hand hold when getting onto the roof. I would just get a Maggie Ladder and grab rail like Buzzcut1. |

| I have an EC and I took off the cross members of my Maggie Rack for several reasons: If I actually loaded anything on them, they would have blocked my solar panels and the raising of my fantastic fan vent lids. With a rear electric awning, the climb from the ladder over the folded in awning and hauling my ass to the roof by grabbing the Maggie rack was just NOT going to happen. I access the roof through the large Heiki skylight. 2021 FORD F350 dually 4x4 with 4.30 gears 2013 Eagle Cap 950 480 Watts Solar, 3K VictronConnect Multiplus II, VictronConnect smart DC-DC charger, VictronConnect 100/30 solar controller, 250 amps of lithium batteries by LifeBlue |

| OK...like you I also was dismayed that nothing was on the Eagle Cap roofs to assist getting onto the roof in a safe manner. I just completed this install of the TopLine TL 11018 Ladder Upper Assist like is shown on Buzzcut's Lance. Topline is also the supplier of the PHAT ladders used on the EC campers. The ladder assist is available in Black or, the bright white that I ordered. I ordered directly from Topline's Cust Serv - part was $35 and shipping $20. No hardware. Well packaged and arrived with no damage. I confirmed the roof construction with ALP - basically 3" total thickness of which most is the insulation. The only structural support for fasteners are the two 1/8" thick sheets of Luan (a relatively soft, low-cost plywood), and maybe some grabbing support from the TPO roof material. Decided to use 1-1/4" #10 hex-head sheet metal screws which gave me more confidence than #8 size which were smaller than the bracket holes - had to lightly drill out the existing bracket holes for the #10's. Decided against any pilot holes to get maximum bite in through the TPO and Luan. Located where I wanted the ladder assist, cleaned the TPO with soapy water and finished with a wipedown using denatured alcohol. Installed butyl tape (KST Coatings aka KoolSeal) underneath each bracket, set the assist in place and drove the screws down using a nut driver to compress the butyl tape by hand (to prevent stripping out the Luan). Dicor 501LSD over the brackets.
