Ok, I am needing advice on what type of golf cart I would need camping Nationwide? I don't know the rules concerning electric vs. gas when it comes to rules and regulations. Is there one brand that will last long time and something that can be trailer.

I personally like the Gas Cleb cars with the Kawasaki engine; ride everyday all week on a couple gallons of gas and no worry about when batteries may die or haveing to spend 600-800 for batteries every few years. I have never been turned down at a campground because it is gas powered. A couple of places told me they specific 'electric carts only' to exclude 4x4s, side by sides etx. that some wanted to claim was a golf cart

E-Z-Go has been in business for a long time, making both gas and electric carts in various models. Club Car is about the same. Yamaha used to make a decent gas model, don't know if they still do. If it was me, I'd opt for the electric models, less maintenance overall and there would be the ease of charging at a campground pedestal. They also eliminate the need for carrying gas and oil. I have 2005 Yamaha Gas cart and would not even consider an electric. My Yamaha holds a little over 6 gallons of gas which is good for over 24 hours of continuous running so I don't carry any extra gas while camping. It only holds one quart of oil and doesn't use any after just short of 1,000 hours on the motor (I have a hobbs meter on it). And I just have one battery to mess with. I did replace the drive belt and generator/starter belt 3-4 years ago. Most campgrounds won't allow gas golf carts. They usually require electric. Many also require insurance (at least $50k worth). As far as brands go, you can't go wrong with Club Car and EZ Go. Campgrounds that we have stayed in that had rentals, used Club Car. Matter of fact, we bought one of their old rentals and had it for about 6 years until we just sold it for what we paid for it ($2000) 6 years before. But I did have a little money invested in it (lift kit, wheels and tires). Batteries were on their last leg (about 6-7 years old).

We purchased a Gem electric vehicle-super golf cart, and street legal when we need something from the store. It has 2 speeds, slow for golf courses-turf, and high speed for the road. We charge when needed at camp sites.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Buy an electric. Sitting in a CG that allows GAS powered carts (especially if they have full time sites) is like trying to relax next to a go-cart track. Even when you get past the constant putt-putt noise, there is always one guy, yes THAT GUY, with the out-of-tune, smoke blowing, gas-burbing, rattling HEAP of cr**. You can always find him....he is the guy that rides around CONSTANTLY. Electric should have a beep-beep horn. They can sneak up on you. The tires on gravel make more noise then the motor. SORRY if my OPINION offends any GAS CART owners. EDIT: By the way....I sometimes take a street legal 50cc scooter. Yes it goes putt-putt, YES I may ride it to the store, rest room, etc... Guess I may be as quilty as the GAS Cart guys. Difference is...most GC can't say anything about a street LEGAL motor vehicle transversing the roadways. I do NOT use it to cruise the CG like I see at many CG's with "permanent" (seasonal) sites.

No difference than someone driving their truck to the camp store, restroom, lake....wherever. Would they say something if I cruised...probably. Then again, they would say something to a car owner that constantly drove around. |

We used one that belonged to my buddy in Myrtle Beach. He had an older 36 volt unit that struggled on hills, he then went to a 48 volt and it worked really well. I thought about getting one but found too many places restrict them. At Myrtle Beach Travel Park where we go in the winter you need a handicap tag/card from your state dmv. Then you need to get it registered with the state and have proof of insurance. At our summer seasonal spot in upstate NY, carts are not permitted. There are definitely more with restrictions or that don't allow them, than those that don't care if you do or what you have.

Perhaps, I needed to also ask, what maintenance if any is need to keep a golf cart up and running, technology behind the mini vehicle.

For the average guy puttering around a campground, you won't see a lot of maintenance year-over-year. Over the life of the cart there will be some. |

Club Cars are better. Less maintenance, aluminum frame. Always make sure there is water for the batteries. So many people forget this. We lived at Ocean Lakes for a few years and DH worked with sales of golf cars. Learned a lot. We had 2 club cars and never had any trouble. When customers had trouble with their club cars, it was mostly because they did not keep water in the golf cars. A must for whatever you get. Change the key switch!!!! You can go to any auto shop and buy a new key switch. All of these cars any key can start the car. LUVRVN |

If you are buying it for the golf course get an electric, Gassers are stinky and loud If you are buying it to get around the campground or community consider one of these. Range is about 140 KM. Top Speed 135 KMH. VERY VERY fast off the line. Quiet on the highway, heated seat, awesome stereo, can take a costco cart full of groceries. Very nice driving car with lots of Jam. The battery is an 18 KWH battery. Typical used prices are 10,000 under for a 2014 or so. Be careful though. Mercedes sold these with and without the battery. You had a choice of buying or leasing the battery. Probably just more than half are sold without the battery. If you find one on a used car lot, get the Vin number, call mercedes and ask if it is a lease battery. People have been known to buy them without knowing and then find out they have a monthly lease fee for the battery. We bought ours outright. Maintenance is minimal. Washer fluid, wiper blades. Brakes don't get much wear as it is regenerative braking. Battery degradation is about 1.5 percent per year. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Awesome, you didn't tell us what it is... Also, for the non world-travelers, it has a range of about 87 miles and can reach nearly 84 mph.

mx727 wrote: Awesome, you didn't tell us what it is... Also, for the non world-travelers, it has a range of about 87 miles and can reach nearly 84 mph. ![]() Sorry. That is a smart ED. Essentially the electric version of the smart car. Ours is a 2015 convertible but they have been making them since 2013. The 2017's will be out in August with slightly longer range and a little more power but really, these do not lack power. Straight highway miles we get about 115 Km of range but straight city you can get north of 145 Km. Forgot it also has a small 12 volt battery that it uses for lights, heater motor etc. we are still on our original so I suspect that is a 70 or 80 dollar bill every 5 years or so. Ours has heated seats as well. Power windows, cruise control. You can pre heat or pre cool it from your cell phone. Kinda cool. Charges overnight on 110 volts or about 4 or 5 hours on 240 volts. Handles very well. Here is another shot. Picking up a charge compliments of a shopping mall. ![]() Another shot by the lake. ![]() And getting a lift to the next camping stop.

We've never had a or wanted a golf cart. But, if I needed to hear a golf cart roaming around all day I'd rather hear an electric one than a noisy stinky gas cart.

If you can find a 2008 or newer E-Z-GO 48 volt RXV in good shape, you should consider it. It is a great golf cart. Bruce |

I gravitated to the Club Car for the aluminum frame on my 1st cart, but EZ Go and Yamaha both make nice carts too. If you're going to be traveling around with it, electrics are welcome at more places. Opt for a 48V model and you won't be disappointed. I just finished my 3rd sporty build on a CC Precedent electric for a buddy. Next up will be a lifted gasser for a project flip. They're not that hard to work on and if you start with a good base cart, most of the pretty bits bolt right on. I've made a nice little buck or two already with the hobby.
May the Mods grant me the serenity to accept the opinions of those I cannot change, the courage to offer input to those who are open to another way of thinking, and the wisdom to shut up whenever I get too caught up in my own misconceived brilliance. |
