we have a 2015 Ram 3500 tradesman addition dually 4x4 crew cab long bed. Cummins, Aisin trans. Torqlift steel tie down system.

GVWR is 14,000 lbs.
following info from Ram Body builders guide:
empty weight 8319 lbs.
payload 5680
max camper 4581

Only thing I have added is Big Wig sway bar.
weight inside the truck is just the Wife and I.

Currently we have a wolf creek 840.
we tow a 7x14 box trailer with a motorcycle in it. Toung weight is? (2 people can pick it up)

anyway, we are looking at a Artic Fox 996.
Truck camper mag has some figures.
Dry weight 3934 with mandatory option pack (plus we will add AC 200w solar and our brand new memory foam will replace stock mattresses)

Wet weight *Arctic Fox 996: dry weight, 3,934 pounds + 53 gallons fresh, 442 pounds + 6 gallon full hot water heater, 50 pounds + 2x 30-pound full propane tanks, 54 pounds + 2 batteries, 130 pounds + stuff, 500 pounds = 5,110 pounds

Currently my truck still sits 1" higher in back than front with Wolf creek and trailer hooked up.

Will my truck still be OK without modifications and teh 996? On paper its only 1500 lbs more than WC
Currently my truck still sits 1" higher in back than front with Wolf creek and trailer hooked up. would love to be level so I don't always need blocks under front tires on level ground. Maybe 1500 lbs would do the trick [emoticon].

Well your truck is about as good as it gets to haul a camper like that. Any mods to take out the squat would be minor

You might want to add air bags and overload spring bumpers. Otherwise you have in excess of 12,000 pounds carrying capacity in rear tires and wheels and the rear axle is at least 9350 pounds rated. Very little camper weight is on the front axle, almost all on the rear.

If you're not squatting yet with what you have, another 1500lbs isn't going to put you in danger. I would put you at dead level to 1" low in the rear.

Even if it's not ideal it won't be so horrible that you can't take a trip or two with it to see how it's going to work out before deciding what you want to add.

I see the 1140 and 1150 are in same wet weight range give or take 100 lbs, accept they are 2' longer which might act like a leaver.

Anybody with one a 996 or even a 1140 or 1150 on a new version Ram dually, would love to hear how your stock suspension handled the weight.

Worse case all I would really be willing to add is upper blocks (like upper stable loads). This does not give you more weight carrying capacity, it just allows you to carry it a little higher in rear.

Posted By: CAJW on 09/21/16 08:04pm

We have the same camper ( your weights for the 996 look just about right) on a Chevy DRW 3500. Check my sig for suspension improvements that work very well. As noted, you should be fine with the current setup and possibly go with Stableloads if you get too much rocking side to side. Try it out first with your current setup, you might be surprised how well it handles.

You'll be fine but I bet you'll be asking about airbags, Stabilloads and SuperSprings in no time.

I went step by step:
First was stock truck....to much sway and skwishyness.
Added upper stabile loads. got me 1/2'', still swishy and sway.
Added Big Wig sway bar....much better on the sway.
Added Supersprings - so much better. Rear is rock solid now.

Just want to upgrade the shocks to adjustable Ranchos and it'll be perfect. [emoticon]

On our 2016 Ram carrying a AF 1150 DB. We went with SuperSprings. Best mod for heavy hauling in my book. Not towing we are around 9,200-9,750 on the rear axle. We can be at 10,400 on the rear axle if we stuff the camper and tow.

Note that I also have Titan Fuel tanks under my truck so I'm carrying 85 gallons of diesel, this is 53 gallons more than stock and adds some weight. This was done just 2 months ago. Just paid the American Express on this mode, ouch $$$$$ .

^ Holy cripes, you're loaded for bear! If you're running around with 11klbs on an AAM 11.8 axle, I feel even better with the 8klbs I'm packing around on the 11.5!
Nice setup btw!

Posted By: 2BLAZERS on 09/23/16 02:23pm

Heaviest I've scaled the rear axle is 10,400. When towing I crank up the weight distribution and try to keep the camper weight down. Ie travel with less water, etc....if possible. We actually have a toyhauler now, so the enclosed trailer plus truck camper hasn't been used together since. We love the TC for camping and short trips. the Toyhauler for riding trips where we camp for days in the same spot. W

so here is what this weight looks like. We picked out the Artic Fox 990 this weekend. This is loaded on a 2015 Ram 3500, Tradesman with a lot of options, 4x4, Aisin, 4:10's, DRW, 14,000lb GVW.
only suspension change is Big Wig sway bar (which i put on 1 year ago)

This picture is full of fresh water, two full propane tanks and Two 27 series AGM's

She is riding level. Drove wonderful on the 8 hour trip home.
the extra foot higher than the Wolf Creek did not seem to affect MPG, but its "down hill" from Truck Camper Warehouse to PA [emoticon].

This weekend I will hook up the trailer but I don't expect it to drop much based on the drop when 3 people stand on the fox landing. (my trailer tong weight is not very high).

not sure. I only have weights as posted by truck camper mag.

Dry: 3605 including fox value pack (plus I have dual pane glass and slide topper)

Wet: dry weight, 3,605 pounds + 53 gallons fresh, 442 pounds + 6 gallon full hot water heater, 50 pounds + 2x 30-pound full propane tanks, 54 pounds + 2 batteries, 130 pounds + stuff, 500 pounds = 4,781

I had everything on the "wet" list accept maybe 500 lbs of "stuff". I had all the pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc, but no food coming home.

we ran out of food. We even had to call out for pizza delivery one night and they brought it to the dealers parking lot.

I will be out soon with trailer and BMW so I will try to find a scale.
Or maybe not. if its sitting right without suspension mods, do I really want to know [emoticon].

Whoa, whoa, whoa, what happened to the AF 996? We have a 2016 AF 990 and we scaled out at 4,880 loaded with water and ready to go. Pretty close to GM's recommended 4,913 lb. slide-in camper rating. I added Timbrens and my GMC sets slight tail high, I can change that by taking out the 1" spacer and replacing with 1/2" spacer.
Did you add the weight of the Fox Value Pkg.?

Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet you. Sorry if we woke you up Sunday AM. It was 8 hours drive home, and the wife really wanted to go to the last Phillies game that afternoon. Had to do it.

Hope you like your adventurer, and liked you truck ??

No problem. TC warehouse was a busy place this past weekend. More power to you leaving that early. We left around 11:45 am so I could get back to Syracuse, NY to catch The Cowboys game. Leaving our TT at our seasonal site for the winter and heading back to Dallas in the new TC. Happy trails!!

There are no 996's around (only 1 dealer on our side of country)
we really liked the 2016 990 we found. the 2017's cost more. I was quoted around 6 months time to order the 996.
and we are happy.

yes those figures I posted from truck camper mag included the fox value pack.

Dry weight above includes the Fox Value Package (595 pounds) with rear awning, sliding battery rack, dual 30 pound LP tanks, roof rack, ladder, Rieco-Titan electric jacks, outside speakers, sliding storage tray, TV antenna, diamond plate knee wall armor, six cubic foot two-way refrigerator, deluxe stainless-look refrigerator door panels, 22? oven, microwave, pull-out pantry, multi-speed reversible fan vent, hardwood hamper doors, below dinette access door and drawer, front bedroom shelf, and bedspread

once we started really using the WC 840 on longer trips it could get a little crowded for even 2 adults.
When we first got the Wolf Creek it was all my 3500 SRW truck needed to carry, but now I have a dually which gave me a whole new range of campers to carry.
As we used it we compared our issues with the design of other campers. We started to like the design of the arctic fox 990/996 floor plan. The slide made the biggest difference to us in room.

we also have a 2011 5th wheel that sits on a private campground my brother and I own. We thought about upgrading that camper but decided its good enough for what it does.
Plus this year we realized we spent almost 4 weeks in the Wolf creek and only a couple weekends in the 5th wheel. So we decided to upgrade our truck camper or as we call it "our escape pod".
We had the money, Truck Camper Warehouse had the 2016 left over 990, we went and looked at it and bought it.

But the Wolf Creek is a great unit. I had no problems with mine related to manufacture (door lock went bad and kitchen sink faucet broke)I would highly recommend one to anybody looking.

Well here is the fully loaded product, ready to leave on a trip. Diesel tank is full, water tanks are full (425 lbs), Gray/black are empty, two full propane tanks and two 27 series batteries. and most of the dry food for a week trip. (beer weight goes into trailer)

Trailer empty weight is around 2200 lbs which contains one 27 series battery and spare tire up on hitch
Loaded inside is a BMW R1200GS (600 lbs) loaded COG around 5% forward forward of center of axles.
Tong weight appears to be just over 350.
trailer is ever so slightly nose low hooked up.

my hitch is the factory 2.5" receiver with a Curt 34" 2.5" to 2" receiver extension. Rated at 450 tong 4500 lbs load in non weight distribution mode.

I do have a weight distribution hitch if needed, which would put my curt extension up to 600 lbs/ 6000 lbs, but I think I only have 750 and 1000 lb bars.

All that was done to truck is sway bar.

Always like the 990s AF. So what are your axle weights? Just curious if your over 9,250 on your rear axle or not. AF get heavy on the rear axle very quickly. Post when you can.

We will be going over a scale Thursday night, but will be in "as travel" mode without all that fresh water. Also my truck is 14K GVWR which give me a GVWR of 6000 front and 9750 rear.

Posted By: towpro on 10/13/16 09:56pm

Rear was around 1000 lbs under max. Front was also under max. But truck, camper and trailer tong weight loaded for 10 days camping, 1/3 tank of water, fuel tank full, wife and I in truck. About 40 lbs under 14k lbs [emoticon]
So I guess I can tell the weight police "I am under".

I will post true numbers tomorrow when I get to destination. Also I don't know any numbers of truck unloaded

Perfection!!!!

Interesting your front axle weight. That 990 must be putting some weight on the front axle, while my 1150 unloads the front axle a little bit.

Sweet!!!!!!!!!

Posted By: towpro on 10/14/16 06:07pm

actual it adds up to 13980. 20 lbs under 14,000 lbs GVWR[emoticon].

1090 lbs below rear GAWR.
680 lbs below front GAWR.
