Topic: Wanted: Stock Radio, Ford E450

Posted By: Sam Spade on 08/23/16 07:46am

Before I go junkyard diving, I thought I'd ask here.

Anyone have a factory radio they have removed from a late model Ford E450 or maybe 350 that they would like to sell ??

I put in an after-market one and I just HATE it. Didn't save the factory unit because it wasn't working right.

It is possible Ford may have used the same radio in the F-series as the E-series. Check it out. Should be plenty of stock radios available for F-series floating around.

Hi Sam,

What year is your E450?

I ask because shortly after buying our motor home, I replaced our 2007 E350 single CD radio with a six CD version of the same radio only so we could play 6 CDs at a time. I quickly learned Ford changed the main connector in back of the radio around that time. I had bought the wrong radio on Ebay which looked identical in every way (except for the connector socket). After I got the right radio, I sold the wrong one and kept my new-ish single CD unit as a spare.

Here is a picture I took at the time. The two radios on the bottom work with my 2007, one my original single CD, the other my 6-CD. The radio on top is an older model year, maybe a 2005 but not certain of it. It might be older yet. Just make sure your connector will plug into one of these. Also note the white plastic on the radio to the right, the black rubber stem to the left. They are interchangeable pending your E450 mounting requirement.

As others mentioned, you can use the radio from many different Ford vehicles of the same vintage. I would take some pictures of your connector and compare it to the socket on the radio you are considering.

PS: I respect your passion on the tire topic. We will just have to disagree on that one. All is well here on my end.

I don't know what went wrong with your OEM radio but when my DW's 2002 Explorer, 6 CD changer went south last Christmas, I found a fix on YouTube. Following the video I removed and adjusted the changer. It is working fine now and if it goes again I'll probably fix it again or maybe buy her a new SUV.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing that.

On the cutaway chassis I don't think there is a stock radio, every RV maker picks their own brand and installs it in their finished product. At least that's what Winnebago does. Dick

Based on the picture below on the making of a 2007 Phoenix Cruiser, you are correct. The RV chassis is apparently delivered without the radio. But maybe the radio is optional for the outfitter, coming in a boxed kit along with other RV specific items. I say this because our Phoenix Cruiser came with a stock Ford radio.

Stock radio or not, the wire harness and radio connector will be the same. Outfitters with their unique radio will use an adaptor that plugs into the stock harness. If installing a stock radio, you really want to plug-&-play and be done.

I bought new Infinity speakers for our Ford doors to enhance the sound quality of our stock Ford radio. The speakers arrived just a few days ago. It's a project in my queue.

Howdy, while I saw this post I also need recomendation/help. I have a 2002 e350 Winnebago mini 24v. It has the "RV radio" with built in weather function. I love that part of it but it will not play CD's. Just get the error message. Can any one suggest a method to repair that function?

Thank you

Don't have it handy at the moment but it is around an '07.

I haven't actually seen the connectors as an "audio shop" did the first change for me......and would be doing the second one too.

Did your original have the little remote with it ?

Mine is a Winnebago and it had a Ford radio.

The replacement cost from Ford was outrageous; much like their ridiculous price for replacement headlight assemblies at about $500 each.

First you have to find a "real" repair shop with "real" technicians who can check it out to see what the problem really is.

That in itself might be near to impossible.

Most consumer electronics these days are considered "disposable". If it breaks, throw it away and get a new one.

If you would be willing to part with the old one now, what do you guess it might be worth ?

Neither radio came with a remote.

You can easily remove the radio yourself by inserting a nail in each of the 4 forward facing holes, two per side as the picture below shows. Then pull the radio towards you, unplug the connector & antenna and the worst is done.

Search Ebay for "2007 Ford CD Radio". A good working used one single or 6-CD will cost around $100 with shipping considered.

Here is my 6-CD Ford stock radio, not sure what year or Ford vehicle it came out of, but it fit my 2007 E350 with no issues. My single CD unit looks very similar. For a visual of what came with your E450, look in your owners manual.

Again I emphasis to watch out for the style of the connector socket in back of the radio.

I purchased a new stock Ford radio w/CD for our 2004 Ford E450 chassis RV two years ago from SPL Electronics in St Claire MO. It was reasonably priced and was shipped pronto; their email is [email protected]. Phone 1-866-380-0529

I have had 3 class c Winnies and all came with brand X with weather channels included and a remote. 03 & 04 E450 and 06 E350. I guess I should have said at least that's what Winnebago did with cutaway chassis. Brand X because I can't remember the brand, but it is not Ford. Dick

We pulled out the stock radio out of our 2015 F450 chassis, intending to change it for a ford radio with a single CD player. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find one with a plug that will fit.

So yes, we have a stock Ford AM/FM radio just sitting in a bag to keep the dust off.

So, some of you need the "male" connector, from Ford, to plug into a different radio... That could be tough. I used to wonder why the OEM radios folks gave me after upgrades, never came with the pigtail, radio to car's harness. Then I realized the upgrade used an adapter cable with a "female" that then wired to the "male" for the upgrade radio. You can easily get an adapter harness, but he radio end is the problem.

FYI, our Jayco came with a Panasonic single-CD "aftermarket" radio, single DIN. Our Ford dash is 1.5 DIN so it had an 0.5 DIN filler.

Reading this thread I'm surprised so many people use CD's. All of our vehicles now have USB. I use Nano USB memory sticks. Usually 16gb. It holds 8-10,000 songs. No more flipping through CD albums. I keep the originals at home as a backup. If the Nano USB is stolen I'm out $10. I carry zero CD's in any vehicle. I usually carry 4gb of music on the smart devices. This is in addition to Bluetooth streaming of Pandora, Amazon Music or IHeartRadio. Amazon Music allows downloads for offline use.

Thank you. I will contact them.

And thanks to the 3 or so people who have offered used units.
My price offer on them will be based on what the price is on a new one above.

Any good car audio shop, maybe even Best Buy, should have an adapter or harness that will convert.

And just what would I do with my almost 500 music CD's? [emoticon]

This is the response that I got from [email protected]

"If you have a AM/FM radio the cd radios that came in a 2015 will not work in a 2015 that came with am/fm the radios or a different system so you have to go back to about a 2012 radio that would be the same style as the am/fm in a 2015 the radio would have to be coded to the vin to work for us to come up with that radio coded plug and play have been running in the $400 price range when we can find them there not easy to find since they were not sold as a up grade them means they only came in the vehicle and there were no extras other then Ford parts as replacement and going threw parts run twice as much as going threw the Ford Radio Q1 service center. I can check around if you like."

Look up 1factoryradio2 on Ebay. They have original Ford radios with a combination of cd player, as well as cassette player, and have been modified with an MP3 plug. I bought one from them for my 2008 Ford E-450. I am old school and believe it or not, I still have cassette players. I also use the MP3 plug to use my IPOD player. It was refurbished, so it is not that expensive

500 CD's would easily fit on one Nano USB. It would cost $10. You could decorate with your CD's.

I have a BOSS 802UA model wired for my recently sold E350. If you would like to plug it in and try it out for suitability, let me know. It is brand new and only tested to check wiring.

Thanks to all who responded to this thread.
I have a couple of hot prospects and am communicating with them directly.
No further offers are necessary.

Let us know how it went. I have the "RV Radio" that came with our 2005 E450 and I'd like to swap it out for something a little more up to date e.g. Bluetooth or at least a USB for connecting a MP3 player....

Last Sunday I was at our area Good Will store. They had a stock Ford CD radio for $5.00, a steal of a deal. They have a nice return policy too. If it doesn't work, you get a full refund.

First, my apologies for doing what ended up being a "for sale/wanted" post here.

But it worked out very good I think.

Bought a slightly used BOSS radio from a member here at a good price.

It looks to be a "plain radio" with a USB and aux input.

It is not installed yet but should be soon.
