Awesome! I wish I had the time for a project like this. Will you have freshwater or wastewater tanks? Subscribed! 2012 Keystone Outback 312bh 2003 GMC Yukon XL 2500 4X4 Quadrasteer 2010 VW Routan 2007 Chrysler Pacifica AWD ![]() |

Sounds good, at least you have the weight distribution concerns in your thought process. My father and I built a large wildland fire engine with an 800 gallon tank many years ago. When we got the tank placed at the front of the bed it it caused the front axle to be quite over weight. We ended up moving it back about 18" to take the weight off the front. It made a nice storage pocket in front of the tank but created all sorts of problems with the pump now overhanging the rear of the bed. With a lot of work we got everything to fit in a lot smaller space with no overhang but it wasn't the way we had originally planned it to look. Stay flexible in your planning, that will help when when you encounter problems. Where there's a will there's a way so I'm sure you'll come up with your way to make it work.

Current plans are for a 35 gallon freshwater tank, 35 gallon gray water tank (both as far back as possible in the camper), and a Thetford cassette toilet that has a built in removeable holding tank. We will carry extra water either in a fixed tank behind the rear axle or possibly just use 7 gallon square jugs ($19 at Cabelas) stored under the flatbed behind the rear axle. When we go to extreme cold environments we will rely on the insulated, heated 35 gallon freshwater tank in the camper. Probably will carry an extra 6 gallon cassette for the Thetford eventually... Here is a link to the toilet we have in mind: http://www.thetford.com/Home/Products/Pe........ets/C402CCassette/tabid/113/Default.aspx |

For me, I only need to refill my propane tank 2 times a year, or a 3rd time, depending how often I spend in cold weather areas. I see you made a decision and have moved forward with your plans. Very impressive as we often here some talk often about doing something like you are doing, but then never hear from them again. I'll also be very keen to follow your build. Very nice MiG weld. I really should put some CO2 on my MiG welder, I've been lazily using flux-cored weld wire - good for outdoor work in windy conditions, but don't get very neat welds (doesn't help I tend to be welding old / dirty steel). If I want to do a decent job I reach for the TiG welder, but that is slower of course, and goes through my cylinder of argon I try to save for aluminum welding. Weight is often a concern when building your own camper. In your case I don't see that being a problem given the nature of the truck you will be carrying this on. Good luck, Steve.
