Topic: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there?

Posted By: flavtfan on 04/03/17 10:35am

Yeah I haven't signed a thing and I would never buy sight unseen. I put the deposit of 500 down for them to hold it and then transfer it from Cali to Vegas. From there I will inspect it before signing anything so right now I'm not obligated to buy. Only thing that sucks is the folks that had it in rental extended an extra week so it's supposed to be dropped today at Cali. They were going to do the prep in Vegas but now the store in cali wants to do all the prep work there and from what the Vegas store said it was actually a good thing because their facilities in Cali are a lot better as far as equipment and on hand parts that may need replaced.

El Monte's refurb location is in California. That is probably where the complete refurbishment will get done. Take your time.

Picked up the RV. It pretty much was as expected. I'm very OCD and this was a pretty solid unit in terms of nothing that major wrong with it. Paint was relatively new as well as the decals, everything works as advertised. I noticed that the generator was changed around 600 hours but the current hour meter still reads 900. I assume those hours were a carryover? The driveline was brand new as well as the driveline bearings and the transmission was changed at 88k miles so I think that is a plus that it doesn't have the number of miles as the odo says. Tires were in excellent shape with 4 of them being pretty much brand new. Flooring linoleum was replaced with some really nice looking faux wood that had a rustic look to it. The dinette seats were very clean. Again, very very nice unit and as OCD as I am I think it was great. Of course being OCD I'm going to work on a few cosmetic things but nothing bad at all. Few other little minor things here and there. It was extremely nice getting the service records. I wouldn't hesitate from buying from them again.

Hello, All:

I know it's been awhile but I finally purchased a unit from Cruise America. It's a 2012 Thor Majestic 28a (30ft). For now I have some pics of the unit. I will have a followup soon of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Here she is:

Congratulations flavtfan on your new rig!
It is great to hear that you are happy with it,with your OCD and all [emoticon]

The really nice thing is that you got all the records and you can see what was replaced and when, that is good to know.

I would think that the generator hour meter is from the old one so they could keep their records straight.

The fun part now is doing the little things to make it yours,I have done quite a few to make mine more user friendly and efficient.

If you get a chance send a picture here.

Good Luck and Happy Travels.

We just finished a trip from Las Vegas to Phoenix, stopping at Zion, Bryce, GC and Sedona in a Cruise America 30 (really the 28). We had 7 of us including 2 grandchildren. We had a great time and the Rv ran great. Would not buy one for our family but we managed.
Despite the noise, I was impressed with the V10. We averaged just under 9mpg and I think the tank was not quite full when we got it. Despite what CA recommends we did not run in tow/haul mode except in severe circumstances.

Hello All. I just purchased a 2012 Majestic 23A with 113000 miles. I think they did a good refurbishment. Is there anything I need to look out for? I plan to install a backup camera in the near future. So far it's good.

Congrats...

There's always something to watch out for[emoticon]
99 percent of stuff to watch out for is covered in this thread. Hard to believe this thread is up to 35 pages, at least what my page counter says.

I guess I'm in the club, lol. I bought a 2006 Winnebago Chalet two seasons ago, yet at the time of purchase I did not know the Chalet was a model made just for rental fleets. I was lucky though, I think we got a good one. It had only 40,000 miles on the odometer and was pretty well optioned out. All the original paperwork were included. It has the generator, slide toppers, awning, wheel simulators, etc. Previous owners (we are the 3rd) at some point installed the covers over the vents, oxygenics, and several other small features. The unit has been perfect, with my only addition so far was a back up camera. I would not hesitate to buy another rental unit as long as I check it out good.

510dogmom,welcome to the Forum and the Former Rental Club!I will put you in the book, you are #85.

As Path 1 said there is a lot of stuff that is covered here on the thread,I know,I know it has grown to 69 pages,a lot to read.

If there is anything specific that you want to know about, just ask here. There a lot of Majestic Owners that monitor this thread and I am sure that one of them will be happy to help you out.

Have fun with your new Rig.
