Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Posted By: umpqua on 05/14/12 10:08pm

Drove from Portland to San Francisco on Thursday/Friday. Attended a Bar Mitzvah and associated festivities. Drove back Sun/Mon. First trip of season.

Still trying to figure where a persistant leak is penetrating from on the left rear corner of the TC. Removed the Left rear tail light assembly and removed the putty it was set in and am setting it in QUAD caulk. Also did more caulking in the near areas that could possibly be an entry point. I do have a little wood rot begining so I saturated the area with Wolman end cut preservative for treated lumber decking hoping that will if nothing else, slow down any advance of rot. The affected area is small and for the life of me, cannot figure where the water is getting in there from.

Hit the wood with some Minwax wood hardener as well, it embeds epoxy resin into the wood fibers and makes them water proof.

If you know someone with an old squirrel cage blower from a furnace you can rig up a pressurization system to do a leak trace on your camper using soapy water.

Jeff it can get in anywhere, then run betwwen the inner and outer walls and collect at the low point, where it does the damage. Check everything that has a seal: window, vents, AC. The leak doesn't need to be right around the damage.

Oh, I forgot to add, drove my truck yesterday in to work to haul back a load of lumber for a project out at the RV Park. [emoticon]

I lent my truck and horse trailer sans TC to a friend for the weekend so after washing the dust off the truck I reloaded the TC and cooked up a nice breakfast before going to work on the Ambulance for the day.

I loaded my TC from my seasonal site onto Dr. Diesel to head up to South Bass Island State Park / Put In Bay for some fishing off a buddy's boat and bar hopping at night. Little nervous about the whole 5 mile ferry ride on Lake Erie to get there. Adventure! [emoticon]

I replaced the 17 year old propane regulator with a new auto-switchover one, put permanent POL adapters on both horizontal tanks and all new hoses [emoticon] I have to get the tanks re-certified before I can get them filled again (only one is empty though) Then it's done! [emoticon] on to the next project!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am looking at saturating the area with epoxy but after I resolve the leak. Here is a picture of the area. The wet point is on the bottom edge just inside of the compartment door. It only gets wet in the center. It is always dry to either side of the spot. How's that for a brain teaser! There is a drip cap ofer the top of the door and the door never gets wet. The bolts holding the rear jacks in place have all been embedded in caulk. Everything is caulked. Here's a picture of the area. The picture is older and everything has been caulked since this was taken.

I put a second bead of caulk over the left rear tail light so we'll see if that does it.

Got the camper loaded and heading to Florence, OR in the AM for the Rhodadenderon festival in florence. They put on a pretty decent parade and the car show at the Three Rivers Casino is good too. Looking forward to a little fun and sun.
