Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

After getting a quote of $400+ to ship 2 pieces of aluminum siding from Elkhart, IN to our home we decided to drive out and get it ourselves.

That amount of money was what I had budgeted for our vacation fuel, so we figured we might as well use it towards seeing some more of the country. So we took 9 days and went to Niagara Falls, swam in Lake Erie in Ohio, bought our siding at an RV Surplus store in Elkhart, IN, stopped at Albanese Gummy Bear Factory while on the way to House On The Rock, Spring Green, WI. Made great time, had great weather. Decided to swing up into Michigan to go to Bronner's Christmas Store in Frankenmuth.

Siding rode just fine 1,700 miles under the riser we use for the TC.

Our next project will be to replace the bottom panels on each side of our 2014 Travel Lite 770R. We started getting galvanic corrosion last year. It was slight, but we knew it would need to be dealt with. This year the bottom half of the TC siding looks like swiss cheese - it's just eaten away.

Had the entrance door lock it self at Salt Point State Park on Sunday night.

Broke out the door glass, and now I'm in the market for replacement glass, and a replacement door lock (a good one, not the cheap junk that Host used..).

I also replaced the factory alternator with a 200AMP big frame G3 on the Superduty, and boy does it work great! I want to add bigger wiring between the alternator and the battery.

Tweetys or Amazon and a local locksmith for a dead bolt.

Why the corrosion, How are you planning on preventing it from happening again?

Until we get it opened up it's just speculation, but we think the adhesive they used may have reacted with the aluminum siding. It's been a well documented problem for 25 years in the RV industry (from what RV repairs places have told me). But the same glue is still being used and sometimes causes problems.

Or it may be from contact between screws or staples used in the construction and the siding. It looks more like this b/c you can see "pops" every few inches in a definite pattern... like nail pops you'd see on sheet rock.

So some combination of the two is giving us problems. We think... again, until we get the siding off we're not 100% sure.

As to the fix, need to see why and then make sure we correct it by using a barrier or different staples/screws. I'll be posting a thread with pictures about the fix when we begin.

call your local glass shop about a piece of tempered glass.

Or replace your pane of glass with a FRP sheet to make your door more secure.

Got the front wall of the tank step built and temporarily in place, need to build the second wall that sets about four inches ahead of it to make a storage compartment where I'll be keeping all my fresh water hoses and what nots as I won't have any dinette storage compartments (that space is becoming the new battery boxes).

Installed a backup camera on the AF990 that plugs into the OEM backup camera plug on the truck.
