Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Posted By: trailgranny50 on 02/13/15 07:20am

Finished my DIY rear door awning and have found a solution to facilitate leaving it in place for travel. One of those snap on flexible covers and two Velcro straps and good to go. Wish I was smart enough to post pics but alas not me. Side awning will be installed today, finally, after all the oh boy, oh boy stuff! And also considering installing a rod tube we hadn't used in years I found in a shed to carry fishing rods on outside of the camper. Just where to mount it, hmm. Probably on the jack mounting plates as we take the jacks off for travel and they are the old fashioned type "L" mounts. Then the old girl will be complete. Now if we can find a cheap, really cheap but dependable older model work truck we will be able to just leave the camper on the dually and be able to make ready for travel easier on me. Gearing up for some expected bad weather so hauling in firewood on the short list today too.

The kids never got to sled due to pulling out all the stuck people, but with skinnies, chains and a plow with the weight of the camper, we went almost wherever we wanted till we hit about 2ft of snow...

Snow has become somewhat of an oddity on Kodiak hasn't it??? Funny, my uncle was stationed there during WWII and his pictures have up to 4' of snow. He said it was like that both years he was there.

I moved it in to the shop, then I pulled out the old batteries.

I started looking inside the cabinets trying to find a way to route some wiring for a heavy duty battery charge line.

The temperature hit 75 here in Placerville, CA today, so I washed the camper down with Bio-Klean black streak remover, then a coat of ZEP. Plan to head up on Tuesday for an overnight trip to the mountains and try to find some fish on one of my favorite mountain lakes.

I'm trying to get motivated to work on the battery charge wiring today. It's still early, and dark though.

Put the 20 x30 tarp back on for the fifth time in the past three weeks, getting up to another six inches of the annoying white stuff tonight. This is the first season that I've done this. I keep a cover on in the winter to help keep her clean. With the daytime melting and re-freezing at night, ice would build up under the snow and stick to the fabric cover making it almost impossible to get it clean. The next day I pull most of the snow off with my roof rake and then gently pull the tarp off with the remaining snow, not having to use a ladder anymore keeps the risk factor of getting hurt next to nill. Now I don't have to worry about having a heavy build-up of snow sitting on the roof. Using this tarp is not only a whole lot safer, I can get the job done in less than half the time. Tough getting older.

Don't know about Kodaik but here in Anchorage we are on track for a record low snowfall. Last I heard total accumulation was 19 inches with the record low being 30 inches.

I can recall days in past winters getting 20 - 30 inches in one day.

Hitched up and drove over to another facility where my wife rode in a clinic with a guest trainer/FEI Judge

Yes when we lived in Anchorage I remember winters when the cross braces on the swing set out back were under the snow. Being from GA I was impressed, being from Valdez my wife was not ;-) Last winter was similar was it not? The water levels in the Kenai last summer were kind of dicey for bigger boats. My buddy never put his big Willy's in and stuck with his old Woldridge sled.
