Then I'm going to replace the LP regulator just to be safe this may have the original installed. Then a visual/soapy water solution inspection of the copper lines and flare fittings. Only after all of these are a " pass " will I try to fire anything up. I do not plan to cause a big boom ! After talking to the " pro's " at my local Camping World I'm not so sure they are more competant than I am ! I kid you not, went in the other day and asked them for a 14 x 14 vent cover for the C11. When I told them the vent opens on both sides they looked at me like I was from Mars..........they actually told me they NEVER heard/saw one that did that ! I am an avid DIYer and gear head have been for many years, this conversation sealed the deal I'm doing ALL of my own work on the Avion. You can get a fiberglass replacement (Hammond) style vent lid from Cayo, but you will need the hardware off of the old one. That is the stainless steel straps that connect to the mechanism. You line them up properly and drill the holes and rivet them to the new lid. It sounds like you are cautious enough to check your furnace. I had an advantage since my camper had been in my family since it was new and I had it's history. My problems had nothing to do with any of the gas part of any of the appliances. My issues were with the piping. I tried to get a rebuild kit for my original Rego regulator and couldn't find one. I ended up buying a $110 replacement Rego regulator and I made a custom mount out of 1/8" thick strap. You definitely want to be cautious, but don't assume that a new furnace is better quality. The thing I can't stress enough is to get a new co/lp monitor. Furnace before rebuild.![]() Pull handle on furnace cover. This is real handy when you need to remove the cover to light it. ![]() |

69avion thanks for the pics, man I need to find two of those OEM LP bottles ! I see you have the same type of kitchen seating layout as mine, do you find that the rear part of the seating area that sticks out into the aisle to be a pain ? It seems to really shrink the aisle, I was thinking of cutting it back to be flush with the wall that the refrig. is in.

There are probably tanks available out there, you just need to find them. As far as the layout, that is part of the interior woodwork that was trashed because of the destroyed plastic vent that had been letting water in for years. I had it rebuilt just like it was originally, but I had the bottom cushion made 4" longer so that it sat all the way out. We also offset the table mount so that it can give more room for the person sitting on the port side of the table. We have no problem with the narrow walkway and I'm close to 200#. If someone was very large, they may have an issue. I really like the layout and it is one of the most efficient that I have ever seen. It will comfortably sleep 4 adults. I was , and still am very tempted to do exactly as you propose with that partial wall . It would open it up considerably . You could sit at that corner in any direction . The downside is that someone sitting at the table in that spot would have no backrest , and it would add another piece of cushion for making up the dinette bed , there are already enough small pieces . I have decided to live with it for a while to see what works best . I bought enough upholstery fabric to remake that back cushion if need be . '68 Avion C-11 '02 GMC DRW D/A flatbed |

PS other brands of campers used those LP tanks in the 60's . |

As I recall, they are Manchester tanks. New horizontal tanks are very expensive.

The originals were made by Manchester tank . They make both DOT and ASME tanks . The new horizontal ASME tanks are physically larger than the old ones so regardless of price you cannot fit 2 of them in the existing compartment .If you eliminated the small draws and made a new box you MAY be able to fit 2 sideways .

If I can't find twin OEM tanks I'll probably bite the bullet and buy a new 20 pound horizontal tank. I'm a long ways from needing them so I have time. Is there a " wanted to buy " section on this forum/site ?

Marietta, I'm not sure if my tanks are what you are talking about. There appear to be a number of changes from my coach to yours. However, if this is what you are referring to, then you can have them for free. As to the Forum, I think they frown on any sorts of sales. ![]() ![]() |
