IH

That set up is looking really sharp , nice job on the truck . If it wasn't for the easy up you would think that picture was taken in 1970 .

garry

You're coming along nicely .

I am experimenting with some foam sheet glued to the lower wall in back of the cushions to see if it helps with condensation . I'll post after TG if it works .

Hey Garry, you sure do the long haul. Still improving the truck after 5 years??? You posted on this string the same day it started, 5/11/11. And you're still here. Actually many folks are here from the early days, including Ticki2 who also posted on that first day. Followed soon by 69cayo.

Keep on truckin....

Yes I was lurking for awhile on the TC Forum till I found the C-10 in April of 2011. Then It was get it functional to see what worked and what didn't. That has worked well for us, as the family has changed, so has the camper. Some things done as temporary are finally getting addressed. Now 5 years along and it is much nicer than our foifive years ago, with lots of wind and rain. I have most of the leaks found and fixed for this trip, but I am still chasing one elusive one in the pass. wing area. The closet is much more Functional now and we actually have great heat! We will be traveling again with no water in the tank and just using gallon jugs of water as it will be in the low teens to low twenties in Anchorage they are forecasting. We leave tomorrow night, so I will keep everyone posted on the trip, and we will have a trip report too!!

Take care!
Garry

Hi
a "few days" ago i wrote about shipping a Combo over to Germany.
In the meanwhile, my combo "is swimming", means is on the ship. I expect to pick it up the 23 of dec. in Hamburg.
right before Xmas.
my friend unmounted the jacks and the support, to save shipping costs. The whider it is, tho more cubics you have to pay.
Most of the screws where to rusty, that they hat to use a grinder.
Now i need to know the dimensions of the screws which hold the jack supporter things unter the wings.

Hoping everyone had a good holiday and best wishes for the coming year.

Hopefully very early next year I will be able to get my C10 loaded on to the truck, finalize my grey water 'tank' plumbing which will be mounted to the under carriage of the truck. Then I will have to make a decision on how to transport my 2 or 3, 2'x 4' "portable ' solar panels.

In an attempt to raise the camper to facilitate sliding the panels in between the camper and the cab, I installed 2 layers of 2"x 6" X 8'
boards, effectively lowering the height of the bottom of the camper.
Now by my measurements, the jacks are not going to be able to raise it high enough for the truck bed. (Dodge 3500).

Which brings to mind the question...
How many travel with their Jacks mounted to the camper?...pros's and cons?

Hope everyone has a great new year...
Yeh Mon!

PS.....my solution to the height problem is..

1... to place wooden spacers under the jack legs....will be a pain to have to travel with them, if i leave the jacks on camper.

2...insert 3" spacers in to the lower 3 legged section of the jack that the jack tube slides into. (concerned that may not be stable)..

Happy holidays to all. I hope many of you are on the road enjoying your Avions.

68C11 The bolt holes on both my jacks and mounts measure just over 16mm(5/8") in diameter. Im using 1/2"x 1-1/4" grade 8 bolts. A 14mm x 35mm bolt would be a safe bet assuming you do not need spacers between the jacks and the mounts.

Cajun, I was going through the archives and found your picture from last winter of ice encrusted bicycles on the front of your truck. Im thinking of doing the same and was wondering about visibility and the wear(like stone chips, etc) on the bikes. I only need to transport one bike but dont feel like dragging it in and out of the camper every night.

Rastaman, I never travel with my jacks. The big con to this is the worry of a breakdown. Without jacks, the unit would be **** near impossible to remove from a disabled vehicle without damage. The height of the rig on a flatbed tow truck would be way over 13'6"(common legal max height) and there are not many hook tow trucks out there anymore. There are also many types of breakdowns that would require a flatbed tow such as the rear axle trouble I was having last spring. My policy has been to keep my truck in good mechanical shape, travel with tools and spare parts and leave the jacks at home. I also turn wrenches for a living.
At home, I place 2x6s under the feet of the jacks not for height but to keep them from sinking into the mud. What if you were to bolt a hocky puck or two to the pads on the feet of the jacks?

The LP forced air heater I installed is overkill unless it's real cold out, great for the quick warmup though. Im looking to add a Wave 3 to the system and wanted some input from the group. Has anyone had any issues with dust causing a malfunction? Do they really weigh close to 7lbs. without the legs? IIRC DGordon has his mounted inside a cabinet door which looks ideal but I dont think my feather weight doors could handle that much weight.
