Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Thanks Ticki2! I went and measured from the window opening on my old pieces and it was in the 20" range, do you think you sagged 1/4" over time? That was really my problem I think.

Please excuse me if this topic has been covered. I've looked and am unable to find definitive information on winter covers. Next year I will have a carport installed to store it under. Should I cover it this year? Some say yes, some say no.......

The camper is presently mounted in the truck and the area you are asking about is a solid piece of plywood so there is no sagging involved . I am not sure what you mean by measuring from a window , there is no window in that section . I suppose there could be 1/4" variance between one unit and another . Perhaps someone else will cihme in .

Ticki2:

I lowered the floor by 1" and it all seems to fit better now with the rear end properly aligned. Thx for the guidance. Once the torrential rains stop in the next couple of days I will get all of it firmly assembled with glue and screws. Then jack mounts and more riveting. Then bunk wood. More riveting....etc etc etc. 6 more weeks till snow and would like it leak free by then!

Looks like I need a 10x22 inch piece and an 14x18 for the outside and I'll need a 10x22 and a 14x18 for the inside. I also need 4 6x6 inch exterior pieces that will be used to fill the corners when I replace the front rectangular window with one that has radius corners. It would be easier too if I had some of the original framing ( 4 pieces 3 to 4 inches long) to fill in the hole for support of the new window. Let me know what you have and I'll do what I can to help out! Thanks!!! Garry

Garry,

Let me check what I have but am pretty sure none will be that big considering existing rivet lines. My local sheet metal shop has new available anodized and could cut to size. Will keep you posted.

Was it you who was considering the Atwood 12,000 BTU? From what I have found, it has a direct vent out the size and front air output so would fit in the counter space on the rebuild. Their docs are not the greatest.

Friday I went to my local machine shop to work up some new jack mounts. I used to barter old hens to the shop foreman's mom who was in her 80's and from Barbados and she loved to cook up old hens like the old days on the Island as he says. Makes for a fun dialogue.

Today the sun is shining and will glue and screw the tub together.

Krusty,

I had a cool but sunny day yesterday. 38F but 25-35mph breezes. So wind chill was near 25F. I took apart my closet area, mocked up the Atwood. Marked and cut the inner skin, then drilled and cut the outer skin. Then inserted the intake/exhaust sleeve and the exhaust pipe and bezel. All sealed and screwed in place. Then I cleaned up some window seems that the caulking was pulling away. Then did a lot of caulking.

Next is the wood work to mount the Atwood and reconfigure the closet and door. Only have a few weeks to get ready for our trip and I also have the plumbing and wiring....

As for the aluminum. The little pieces for the front window would be great. The one large outside pice for the chimney is the primary one of concern to delete the chimney. But I still need to buy the rivets and shaver...

One of these days I'll get to it but at least we can keep using it.

Off to church. See you all later!
Garry

Garry I am sure I can get the 6x6 from my old shell. Will confirm tomorrow. Did you take any pics of the furnace install you can share? Would love to see how it looks and the exhaust.

Still working on the heater install. Yesterday was demo of the closet and mock up the heater, cut the hole and mount exhaust.
Today after church was build a new floor for the closet. Mock up the heater and build framing around the front. Then build framing around heater to enclose heater from the closet. Also pulled the old "temporary" vinyl floor that has lasted 5+ years. Tomorrow hopefully will start the gas plumbing and electrical as well as the new clost framing and doors. Then on to the new flooring.

Gotta get ER done... Running out of time.
