Thanks a lot.
I'm looking forward to get my Combo to my place.
At the Moment i try to get as much information as possible.
What about the toilet? Did you find one which fits?

Not sure about yours...mine was missing a lid and I just replaced the entire unit with another RV style one...the bolt pattern was the same.

Thanks 67Avion.

Today I was scraping lots and lots of silcone from around the windows and FM antenna(?). I am in silicone hell. Any easier way? Currently using plastic ice scraper, pliers, and a LOT of patience!

Since I have all these holes in the outside skin, is it wise to increase insulation with low expansion foam through the holes? I am not currently planning on a full gut and rebuild.

Silver, for some reason I had forgotten about your video of the rebuild. Its a real work of art! Clear as a bell. Thanks for that and thanks for the effort on the search engine. We need it.

C11, you are in the midst of a mess. I really don't know of a way to make it better, maybe others do. I think that you should send along photos when you ask about issues like injection of foam insulation. I hear that you are attempting to put it together as efficiently as possible. Again, send along the pictures and it helps a great deal.

c11motorhome - I pity you, due to the silicon. Please anyone who reads this, don't use silicon on an RV!

I found the best way to remove silicon caulking on Lil' Queeny was through scraping, just as you describe (lots of elbow grease), BUT and here's the plus...

Use Naptha solvent. Naptha is an oilier solvent than many (acetone, lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, etc.), and I tried all/most of them. I found that Naptha softened the silicon enough that scraping became much easier. A plastic scraper is smart (sometimes I'm not that smart and used steel), and an old toothbrush does a good job for application and some scrubbing. Various stiffness brushes can aide. Take your time and get that **** off, and then for attaching items to opening use a good quality butyl tape (not putty tape) and don't tighten so much it all squeezes out. Tighten enough to make a seal and leave butyl in place. Trim excess as needed until it stops oozing out (several temperature changes of hot/cold cycles), then use a flexible (non-silicone) caulking like Pro-flex brand to finish the edges (at least top) where the window meets the exterior surface (or vent, or jack mount, etc.).

Thanks for the information and advice. I will get naphtha thinner.

Yep, it is a project. But it seems manageable. I'm a former marine engineer, current mum, so have skills and time (in small chunks). The resources in this thread help immensely. Thanks

Vintage Trailer Supply sells a silicone caulk remover that worked pretty good for me . Bought some craft sticks ( pop sticks ) and put a beveled edge on with a grinding wheel which worked well and didn't scratch the anodize . Final cleaning with naphtha .

Now that I have sealed my roof with Kool Seal,,,it has occurred to me that the original roof vent fan, which works great, maybe somewhat of a 'power hog' I would rather not remove the entire unit.(as the roof is done) So I was wondering if anyone has switched out just the motor and fan with a modern one? the stove vent fan would also be a candidate for the replacement too....

Those old fans are tried and true examples of American muscle, watch your fingers! I haven't replaced mine but rarely use em'.

FYI The search engine is a Google Custom Search Engine(CSE) created for free. I simply used this topic(Avion camper rebuilds - hundreds of photos) address as its 'search site' so as to 'keep it local'
Rv.Net does not allow this type of link hence the emoticon where '[emoticon]' used to be. My temporary solution is to host the link on one of my Avion Youtube videos. The link is down on the video page, it's in the first comment. Copy the address and you won't have to go to Youtube every time. PITA
