Screwtape, WELCOME! When the thread started so many years ago, we neve envisioned it to be THE place to talk about all things Avion TC as well as the sister Cayo. And since Motorvators are more akin to a TC than a trailer, they at starting to arrive too. I understand your desire to keep things clean, and if you are keeping to smooth roads, you'll be ok. But if you get off the beaten path or by many speed bumps or potholes something gives if the coach isn't solidly secured. And sheet metal and new truck bumpers have a tendency to give far to easy. After replacing other guys bumpers on newer trucks after the reused the buttons from 70s trucks due the newer bumper bending from the strain, the guys here are just trying to save you the same heartache. Good luck with your new C10. When you get a chance for more pics, if you have been reading the thread, you know how much we love our pics!?? Screwtape take a look at the post I made about the Torklifts. There are photos of what happens with the sheet metal https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/28392457.cfm We stand ready to help with any of the issues you might encounter. Garry6 and Ticki2 were on the first page of this string, I think, and are still here after all this time. There are many very knowledgeable folks that are generous with their time.

Howdy! Welcome aboard Screwtape! We want to see inside! My old water heater vent cover decided to go flying, too. I saw it take off in the rearview. Played frogger in the highway, only to watch her get squished by a hybrid. All the kings horses and all the kings men ... Would anyone have a replacement around? |

67 and 69, I'm going to call Chuck Cayo tomorrow and find out how the Motorvators were made. If it's the same plywood underbody as our TCs, I'll be off the hook. If something more substantial and less likely to rot, well, I don't know... I discovered the cab chassis concept last night. It's possible to buy a truck or van without the back and with reinforced chassis rails in various lengths depending g on what sort of a body one wishes to put on them. The feasibility factor is getting better. I just don't want a new can of worms. My current can is wiggly enough. Dick |

D1 go for it.! For our part we'll escort you through flyover country. Honestly, it looks terrific but we know how to figure that out. It looks like it could be a brilliant restoration.

Screwtape wrote: Hello all. I've been reading this HUGE thread for a while and I've decided to register and post a pic of my C10's maiden voyage. All systems are go and my girlfriend and I had an awesome 4 days in upstate NY (despite a bit of rain). Now that I'm back home I need to replace the fridge vent cover that jumped ship. Any suggestions other than buying one from Cayo? ![]() Welcome aboard Screwtape , and a regular cab to boot . If you look around at some of the RV catalogs online they still make aluminum fridge vent caps that will fit , should be an inch bigger on all sides than the stack . The only problem is they are usually white so you will need to paint , no big deal . What part of NYS were you ? '68 Avion C-11 '02 GMC DRW D/A flatbed |

Thanks for the heads up, I'll endeavor to upgrade when budget allows but that might not be for a while. I'm really glad you guys are on here an willing to help, the Internet is a great thing! Also, I'll get some pics of everything in the near future. The inside has some updating done by the previous owner and some by me, its in decent usable condition but not the original gem I wish it were. There is a bit of rot in one wing but no leaks so hopefully it stays stable enough to not need fixing for a while. Time will tell. My two main concerns at the moment are maintenance of the fridge and a slight cosmetic issue on the interior where the original paint is failing. Paint is easy but the fridge is a mystery to me. I'm just glad it's working! Also, the running lights are non functional. The tail lights didn't work either but those were easy enough to rewire. I'm not looking forward to fixing these but I do have a solid plan of attack. On a more enjoyable note, out little trip was around the finger lakes area and a day in Cooperstown, my girlfriends old stomping ground. Its more beautiful out there than I imagined. Paint is easy but the fridge is a mystery to me. I'm just glad it's working! I pulled out my fridge almost immediately. It was heavy, had a sizable space that it occupied, and didn't appear to be that reliable. But, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm sure there are lots of folks on here who can advise you on the fridge. But, "the original paint is failing"? the original wall paint is Zolatone. I've never heard of it "failing". It turns brown and looks bad, but it is totally adhered to the coach walls as far as I know. It is the same stuff that is used to line trunks of cars. Post a pix of the paint and maybe we can help. |

The original paint, probably Zolatone, was painted over with common latex paint by the previous owner because it was falling off (see pictures). Well, painting over bad paint results in more bad paint. I'm not positive on the direction I'll take to remedy this eyesore but I'll need to do something eventually. |
