Ticki2, I've been studying your window pane replacement process carefully in your recent posts. I'm at a point where it might be timely to do this in my 69. You say that the windows must be completely removed in order to replace the glass/plex - rivets drilled out, the whole nine yards... Is that, in fact, the only way to reglaze? I've taken so many rivets out... Just hoping I might do the reglaze without the full removal program... Any advise appreciated. Dick |

You can remove the operating sashes from the front and the bottom of both sides by removing with saw, dremel ,or file , the slight overhang at the top of the hinge in the frame that I showed .![]() Then remove the hinge screws and the will come out . The only way to do the top fixed windows is to drill out the rivets and remove the frame . The plexiglas and U channel are a very tight fit in the frame ,the plexiglas would never slide in if you only took off one side of the frame . I had to use clamps and a rubber mallet to put it together . Be careful it's easy to bend the frames with the force needed to put it back together . I did not do the jalousie window in the bath . Yes I know , it's a lot of rivets , a little over a hundred each .

Ticki2, thanks for that. I studied my windows this AM and, while I'm loathe to continue removing parts, it's clear that they are sufficiently weathered and have been caulked in such an erratic and overly enthusiastic by POs, the best course will be to take them out for a proper R and R. Rebbedded with new tape, new glass added, etc. A couple of questions: how thick is the plex? I'd like to replace all the panes with actual glass (safety or laminated or the like) but there are limitations to those products in terms of thickness. Also, there are couple of little plastic and rubber moldings that slide into channels in the frames. You mentioned the rubber channel for the actual glass. What about those other moldings? Did you find a source for or solution to replacing them? Did you curve the new glass or plastic panes? It appears on mine to be 1/4" in 13". Acrylic is pretty easy to shape with the judicious application of heat. Safety glass - I don't know if one can buy it with a curve. Could be very expensive... The big fixed panes in the big windows are currently plex but flat. The two fixed panes in the smaller windows on the other side are curved. That's where I got the 1/4" in 13" measurement. It's so nice not to have to create this rebuild out of whole cloth, to be able to share experiences and sources and problem solving strategies. Onward Dick |

D1trout , all the parts I used are listed in my post at the bottom . I sent for samples from several companies and these are the only ones that worked with the .118 plexi . They all came from Pelland Enterprises . Don't know about glass , I felt it was more than I wanted to tackle , and I was only replacing the two windows over the dinette , so trying to match the others . The plexi is referred to as 1/8 nominal thickness which I found has a bit of variance . The bottom seal that slides in is the same for the sides and the top of the operating sash . 69 cayo also rebuilt his windows . You should check with him if he found anything different . |

I have the interior portion of the antennae rotator which I will not be using so anyone that wants it can have it for the cost of shipping. It cranks both ways with no grinding so I assume it's in good shape. ![]() ![]() Dennis |

Well, my Avion is on the truck right now. Two weekends ago, my sons boyscout troop had an Eagle Scout Beach cleanup scheduled. It has been wet and rainy all winter, with no snow. That morning we woke up to crystal clear sunshine with 25-35mph winds and about 27F (without windchill...). We had saw the change coming, so my oldest who is an Eagle Scout, but left that weekend for Marine Corps Boot Camp, helped me load the Avion for a winter exercise. We had Donuts, coffee nad hot chocolate going for the entire length of the event. The scouts collected and categorized over 600 lbs of marine debris from the beach. The C-10 worked well for the teams rotating through to warm up, get something hot, and then get back to work. Camper is still on, since the weather has been unseasonably warm and wet. We hope to take the kids out camping soon to allow some running and playing as they have been cooped up so much this winter. Other than that, I have been too busy remodeling/finishing the basement to be able to do much on the Avion in the rain... So, What are you other guys up to???
