Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Posted By: 67avion on 10/27/11 09:37am

Garry and all,

It looks like there has been a lot of work in Alaska! We're still being obsessive about the cabinetry but I hope to have it all in my this week end. After that its back to electrical, gas and water. I may shut down for the winter the middle of next month and start up again when the weather warms again. This is a real project, but its actually been better because of the various downtimes and delays. I have taken the time to go inch by inch through the coach, and sometimes come up with better solutions than I first envisioned.

I see a mention of eBay and Avions. I looked but couldn't find the auction.

Whoa. I finally got a look at the guy's site - he's "parting out" a C11 Avion. http://tinyurl.com/3mnsbx8

It looks like it was a perfectly OK truck camper. What a shame!

Well here are some messy pics, but pics none the less ;-)

Here is the interior at 10pm with the single 110V ac light lighting up the inside of the camper.

Here is the new cooler location.

Here are the 12V lights

Here is the new/old two burner cook top and where the sink will be relocated to.

Here is a blury pic of the Wave 3 heater on the back side of the new propane bottle enclosure.
Here is the old 20 Amp converter, that will now be replaced with a 45 amp Power Max chrager.

The area behind the dinette seat will eventually be the battery box area. I intend on sealing the area, and then fiberglassing the interior to seal any spills. It is big enough for two batteries, and keeps the weight right up at the front bulkhead with the water tank, charger, refer and grey water tank.

Here is the camper lit by only the 3 12V lights on.

I hope you enjoyed the progress...

Garry thats great! You are really making good progress. I didn't know you had the OEM cabinets overhead. As to the batteries, I wonder about using AGM batteries as I'm doing. They are approved, I believe, for interiors. Setting up an outside enclosure (not in the heated area of the camper) for lead acid batteries would seem to be an issue in your climate. I understand your concern for weight transfer to the front of the coach and it looks like you've solved it.

Congrats, again.

Looking good Garry [emoticon], so where's yer fresh water fill going in at? I see the port on yer tank, but yer cabinets are flush with the over camper tub wall (Mine over hang it by about 3" in my KIT) which would make it difficult to plumb up a pipe through the cabinet to the outer wall on the rig's side.

THanks for the compliments. I have been contemplating the AGM batteries, but for boondocking, and eventually solar, I had heard some bad reports, so I am still open to other thoughts...

Thanks Joe! My fress water fill is on the outside of the camper under the kitchen window. I am still massaging the wood of the camper to get things to fit where I want or need them to fit... I have a feeling that whatever we have done before our trip at Thanksgiving, will identify some more "tweeking" and "adjusting" that will need to be done.

Last night I got the table brackets mounted, and got the oak trim board bolted to the aluminum bed support for the cabover. I extended the bed back into the camper just enough to fit a Full "full-size" mattress into the upper bunk, vice the original 48" wide bunk. I have to go buy some fill hose, some vent hose, and some hose for the water pump and the tank drain valve as well as fittings to connect everything up. I also need to build a 5" step under the table, since the table leg needs that to support that table, and to get everything sitting where it should go when the cushions come into the camper.

Hopefully can make some more progress tonight, and then get some pictures!

Thanks again for all the morale support!!

Garry , I think Vintage Trailer Supply has the same cabinet latches as the original upper cabinets if you are looking for some for your new bottom cabinets . It's starting to come together , keep up the good work.

Thanks Ticki2, I have looked at their stuff before. I have been concentrating on getting the camper funtional and then I can finish up all the rest.
Last night I insulated the cabover with reflectix, and put out the new memory foam mattress, after replacing the little plastic pivots for the front window operators, as well as replacing the crank mechanisms. THen I pulled out the counter, and insulated under the cooler on the overhangs. Next is running water lines and wires, and more insulating of the side overhangs. Figures out where and how the sink will get mounted... Working on how the cooler will get mounted... BTW the temp here is around 40 and wet. THe temp in Anchorage is currently in the 20's to low 30's, and could be in the 0's to teens when we go over in November, so trying to do as much insulating as possible. Will do some more today, and then get some fresh pics...

Had to take the camper off today and put the plow on , forecast is for 5-10 inches of wet heavy snow with power outage probable, temps in the 20's tonight . Was hoping to hold off till the 10th to meet up with some folks on the Maine coast . If the weather gets better by then I may put it back on .

Gary, Looks like you've got a little bit of everything going on there.
Campers really coming along.

I finally got to the point where I could insulate.......

The edges along the ribs will be filled with stick foam once I have 2 layers in (total 1") and the wiring roughed in.

Your work is looking good, seeing what ideas I can get from you [emoticon].
