Garry,

Thanks for inviting me to join RV Net and the other dozen Avion / Cayo truck camper owners. My husband and I bought a 1972 Cayo C-11 in October with plans to restore her in 2014. We are looking forward to learning a lot and hope we enjoy the challenges of restoration. We are complete beginners at this (and not that handy in general) so we know we've come to the right place to learn.

Welcome Jacqueline! This is the place to learn! Not just from other Avion owners, but from the rest of the Truck Camper (TC) community! The gays and gals here are usually pretty helpful, and there is a wealth of knowledge here. As with any Forum site, there will be the occasional bit of fluff and furr flying, but just keep a thick skin, and glean what you need, and ignore what you dont want, and you'll be fine!
I think you are our first Cayo Owner, and with that we look forward to your experiences. Is yours one of the rear dinette models, with the lower front corners that are more square than round? Or is yours more like the C-11's from the late 1960's?
Can't wait to see some pics!
Again, WELCOME!
Garry

I know that I posted the link for these out in Virginia, but since I did't connect the pics, there hasn't been much discussion, but for the price he is asking, they need to be saved! He doesn't want to scrap them, but is running out of time to get them moved... I would love to get the C-10 for a future project, but VA is just to far for me in AK right now...

And here is his original ad description.

Avion C-11. 1968. Camper in very nice condition, until I backed the corner into a tree. I have all of the original paperwork from the original owner for the C-11. Price $1000. Also have a gutted C-11 and a C-10 for sale. C-10 comes without the AC for $1000, or with the AC for $1500. Small trailer available as well for $1000. These are all projects. There is much information about the quality of Avion truck campers on the Internet which I won't retype here. Serious inquiries only please. If the ad is up, it is still for sale.

Please some one save these from the scrapyard!

If I was down south, I would figure out a way to get all three, and either part them out, or save two and part the third!

I am going to run this by the wife when I get home. I have been wanting one of these for a while. I passed on one in Oklahoma a few years ago, but it wasn't at this price.

Wife asked me the other day why I wanted one. I told her I like the nostalgic look of those campers.

I easily would take the two C11s.

Here is a Pic of Jacqueline's Cayo I just ran across. Hope you don't mind me getting it up for you.

OK. We're getting to a critical mass for an Avion TC Meet Up. Some time in 2014. Somewhere in the middle of America. Somewhere really nice with good food and ample libations. New Orleans? Galveston? Port Huron? Where?

Thanks, Garry, for including the photo for us. I'll be learning this forum soon (I'm a member of other forums, but each has its own tricks to master).

Our dinette is in the middle of the unit, on the left side across from the galley kitchen. The back left is the closet and refrigerator, while back right houses the bathroom. Front, of course, is the sleeping area. It seems pretty consistent with the photo's of the late 1960s Avions that we've viewed.

The camper hadn't been used in several years so we will see in the spring what works and what doesn't work. Right not it is at a shop getting what's needed to secure it to the truck so we aren't relying on those tie down straps.

With the cold weather here, we don't expect to begin work until spring. We plan to use the winter months to learn, ask questions, and make plans.

That is a great looking camper. It fits real well on that Dodge pickup. It looks like the rear fiberglass is missing. I can't tell a lot from the picture, but I think some of the later Cayo campers had a larger black water tank.

Jacqueline, i have a fiberglass tub off a C10 that you are certainly welcome to. It's rough and will need some work (probably a fair bit of work). If you're interested I'll get you some pics. Cost of shipping is all I'm asking.

On second thought: it will be a lot of work. It will have to be both repaired and modified to fit an 11.

69Avion it might be easier to say where it's not leaking from. Pretty much everywhere. 90 percent of the roof coating is gone. Rest is curled up at the edges. I don't know what brand the jacks are. No labels etc. they look like rieco titan 2000 lbs, but with a large square nut as the handle input. If anyone knows what they are I'd appreciate it. The bevel gears are shot, I'm hoping to find replacement gears and rebuild them. Hopes and dreams... not sure. Plans will definitely change now.

They sound like the jacks I have and after many phone calls I found out they are Atwood.
Atwood no longer make camper jacks but they did manage to match up some gears for me.
I'll take a look and see if I saved the packaging with the model #.
