Topic: Avion truck campers - Hundreds of photos

Posted By: 67avion on 09/18/11 12:09pm

I have an issue that I would like some help on. I'm in the process of rebuilding the interior of the Avion. I took the cooking exhaust hood apart today and have decided to replace the motor and fan. The hood is by Strawsine Mfg of Corunna, Mich., and is model 264 - 12V.

I want to work on the rust as well. Here is a view of the underside of the vent with dimensions:

There is also a broken vent flap in the rear:

It notes on the interior label that it is a 3.8A motor. That is way too much amperage, I think. Though I don't know the CFM recommended for an exhaust fan. But I'd like to limit the amperage.

Here is the fan:

It has been suggested that I look into computer exhaust fans, but I am unsure of their heat parameters.

Any and all suggestions as to motor replacement, refurbishing the hood and vent flap replacement will be appreciated

I have the same hood . BTW the outside vent was a major source for a leak that ruined the counter top , check it carefully . I completely disassembled the hood sanded off the rust and painted with rustoleum hammered paint , so far ( 2 years ) it looks great . I thought about the motor also but finally decided it was used so little it was not a big draw . I don't think a computer fan would have enough CFM to open the swinging flap . I think the newer hoods are the same size if you want to change out the whole hood , but I'm not sure of the amperage of the new ones . Let us know what you come up with

Well Avion Guys, I have been out busy with other things lately, and it is time to get moving on the Avion again, as we hope to take it to Anchorage over Thanksgiving, and my wife would like heat and semi-complete... I have hooked up a battery, and I think that I have sorted out where all the DC wiring goes.

Now for the bigger question. All I have for the 110V AC, is the factory breaker connected to the wiring that goes into the wall. I have a new "pig-tail" that is the 30 amp style that is about 15ft long, but I am not 100% certain which wire goes where.... Also, I am not sure where the 110V AC originally went in the 1966 C-10. I know it went to an overhead light in the center near the cabover, to the outlets... and there was a wire pre-run for an AC, but I don't have any AC, just the two factory vents.

Can any of you tell me where else 110V AC runs in the camper, so I can check it capped off, before I try to hook up to the camper breaker? Also, can anyone provide a picture or?? of the factory breaker with a pigtail connected?

Thanks in advance,
Garry in Kodiak

Well, I guess all the Avion guys are out either camping or working on their campers. ;-)
For everyone else...

Due to many things on going, we are trying to get the 66 Avion ready for a trip to Anchorage for Thanksgiving for the whole family. I'm still working at about 1/2 speed due to my mid summer hand injury... But as we get focused on the trip, I will be hooking up the Wave-3 heater, and a 2 burner cook top for this trip, and a coleman 12V cooler. Trying to get plumbing run, and get the 12V lights connected as well as the battery and the charging system tied together. We have a matress for the cab over, and we will be borrowing cushions for the dinette, and the table is ready to be installed. But with Anchorage in Late November being cold, I am debating using the water system, and going with jugs of water and put some antifreeze in the grey tank and the recirculating toilet. Any other thoughts for cold weather camping? I am trying to get the 110V AC hooked up, so at night we can use a small ceramic heater to keep the chill out. ANy other ideas are greatly appreciated!
Garry in Alaska.

For the pig tail going into the breaker box , black is hot , white goes to the neutral buss , and green is ground .

To the best of my knowledge there is NO 110v going to any lights , they are all 12v .

The 110v from the breaker box only goes to outlets with the exception of the AC line which is buried in the ceiling somewhere .

Outlet locations are usually one (possibly two) around the counter , one for the frig (possibly in the wardrobe)and one for the converter/charger . My 68 C11 had a total of three outlets , I added a second one at the right side of the counter with a GFI. I don't have an AC .

Hi Garry. Sorry I missed your query. I found some old photos that show the 110 outlets on my 67. I hope this helps:

The breaker box is located in the left rear of the camper in my case:

There is an outlet where the old fridge was located on the left side. I took out the fridge and that is the back of the outdoor shower:

There are two outlets in the wall below the cabover:

There is an outlet on the right side just outside the bathroom enclosure:

And you know about the 110 outlet for the AC in the forward roof opening?

I don't know if you have a wiring schematic or not. I have a PDF for a '69. I'll try to PM it to you.

Hope this helps.

Oops. I missed the outlet below the bed where I now have my converter/charger/batteries, etc.

I have that exact same breaker box in my camper (just in better condition), I just used a double 15 amp breaker in one of the spots and a single in the other. At some point I'll get around to adding in another double breaker, this one being a 20/15 so I can put a master breaker back into the system.

Thanks, that helps alot.

1)On my 1966, there is a covered switch in the forward right part of the front bulkhead. That switch has a screw in fuse in it. It all appears to be for 12V stuff, but I can't tell. Any Ideas?

2)Where did Avion bring the 12V to the batteries, and did they originally have a converter or not? If so, Where was it?

3)Where does your 110V cord and plug enter the camper? Do you have a long cord permanently attached? Or is it a Plug, with a removeable Cord?

4) The switch at the back of the camper, above the door seems tot have one switch for the 12V overhead light in the center between the vents, and the other switch seems to be for 110V AC for that same overhead light? Any Ideas or thoughts?

Thanks again for all the help!!

Garry

THanks Ticki,
I was thinking that the wires went like that, but didn't want to get it wrong on an almost all aluminum camper... My hand is messed up enough, do want to add electricution too.... ;-)

I have the 1969 C-11 diagram from the internet, but I really need a 1966 C-10 diagram....

Thanks again,
Garry
