Nice looking camper. When you get a chance, you may want to move the front tie down forward on the truck.

Okay, so where would I need to attach tie-downs more forward than I have them placed? Don't see much vacant real estate to work with.

You don't want both the front and the rear tie downs to be pulling toward the rear because your camper can shift to the rear. If they are both pulling forward you shouldn't have an issue because there should be a good stop at the front of your truck bed. I use 3" x 3" x 3/16" angle iron for guides and a front stop. I would have a mount attached to the truck frame that extends under the truck bed right about where the gap is between the cab and the bed. This would make your front tie downs pull forward instead of rearward. With the rear mounts pulling rearward and the front mounts pulling forward, you shouldn't have any issues. Also, you may want some spring loaded mounts so that you don't tear up your camper. |

Here is how mine are set up. It iis this way because I am carrying a 10 ft camper made for an 8 ft bed in my 6 3/4 ft bed. If I could move the rear tie down on the truck back or the rear jack forward on the camper I could get strain in both directions. I'll look at it in the morning, to see how much room I've got. I'm sitting here looking at yours Garry, and yours are waaay up forward compared to mine. Are they near the cab-bed break?

I'm not sure it is necessary to have the tie downs pulling front and rear. I base that opinion on a few things. One is just the shear weight of the camper, I can't see too many situations where 3000 lbs. is going to move much in the truck bed. When I picked up my C11 all I used was two car tie down straps. Once I got comfy with the rig on the drive home 60-65 mph was no problem and I went up/down hills, stop and go traffic and she didn't move at all. Second I will be installing a Stable Lift that I purchased used. The lift also acts as the tie down system, basically four points of the lift frame pulled up into C pieces on the truck frame. All four contact points are vertical and I have yet to hear of a camper with a Stable Lift system flying off the truck. I can't see a truck accelerating so hard that the camper will slide backwards and I would think in a panic stop the tie down points plus the camper resting against the front wall of the truck bed will stop it from moving forward. I'm not an engineer nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express so opinions will vary

See, that's kind of where I come from, too. As I said, we live in North Central Florida. We're talking FLAT LAND here. The closest thing to a mountain that we ever see in this rig might be North Georgia, maybe eastern Tennessee. Otherwise I don't anticipate much out of the Greenville-Asheville-Hendersonville-Brevard area, and that seldom, if ever. Mostly flat or southeast-coastal roads. I don't do fast take-offs (7.3 non-turbo diesel), and I drive at around 65, MAYBE 72 on the interstates, which I don't do much in this vehicle at all, even pre-camper. AND, remember, the photos you are seeing was the ORIGINAL scheme, replaced this week by 2x2x3/16 angle iron for tie-down points, and the front points are situated forward of where you see the straps, but not at the cab-bed break. So, for the time-being at least, I'll watch the tie-downs close, and go from there. If I'm wrong, I'll publish it and take the "told you so"s like a man. But, really, thanks for watching out for us. |

Somebody save this one! If I wasn't in Alaska, I would want to rescue it due to the extremely long cabover! It is much longer than my C10, and it is a aC10! Wish I could see it in person! 1967 on E-bay |

Are they near the cab-bed break? Mine are Tork-lift brand with the removable "stingers" so no shin knocking when the TC is off. And that is how far forward the brackets are. They are just aft of the bed break, and bolt both to the frame and the bed. I scored the whole set off zcraigslist for $200. The rear set are off the Super-hitch.. With a 10 ft camper on a 6and 3/4 ft bed, I needed a 30 inch extension to put the ball just behind my steps. Garry |

Garry, you are absolutely right- that is a stunning Avion and someone who knows what they are doing should grab it at all costs. I have written to the moderators on this Forum to ask if I can start a string about this auction since our thread is so long people may miss knowing about the camper.
