Gary I'm using .032 2024 T3 Alclad. I will be reusing the end caps. Plan to polish it all. I expect the end caps will end up slightly different in tone since their a different alloy. Thanks for the tub idea. |

Thanks for the compliment! If you search for "aluminum camper" you will see a thread that I started before I found my Avion C10. I was exploring the idea of building an all welded aluminum camper like I see so many boats built of here in Alaska. But when I found my Avion, I knew I had found the TC for me. Mine already had the wood base redone, so in the idea of keeping cost down, I went with the wood. If I redo it, I will do something similar to you're idea of extending the cab over, and adding a basement. Let me know what other ideas you have, and I'll keep brainstorming! Never saw an aluminum floor but see on reason why not. Uses more material.. There is no way that there would have been enough flawed aluminum to build all the Argosy's that were produced . The Argosy's were meant to be an entry level Airstream . They also had one piece formed steel end caps so had to be painted . Not all Argosy's had aluminum floors , only the Minuet models . Airstreams did not come polished from the factory , that is a new thing done by some restorers . Starting in the late 60's they were clearcoated to help retain the semi- shine . Sorry.. Thats what they told us when we made a tour thru the factory with the WBCCI in the late 70's Thought they knew.. Snowdance We spent most of our money traveling... Just wasted the rest.. Vintage Trailer is carrying a "copy" of the brasier head if that's what you want. When I had to rivet two layers of skin I used the "A" rivets, skin to rib I used the "AD" rivets. Hope that helps Dennis |

I went over the etch primer with 2 coats oil base Kilz......![]() Then 1st.coat of paint........... ![]() The second coat will wait until after test fitting the cabinets & walls. I'm pretty happy I went without the vinyl beading at the seams. Just my opinion I think it looks better without. Next up will be making up the new cabinets so it's time I decide on material and what kind of "look" I'm after. Dennis |

Dennis, WOW, all I can say is WOW!!!! Someday I'd like to do that with mine!! I have lots of dents etc from the previous owner "gutting" the camper with hammers and crow-bars... Can anyone give me an idea of how to make a new fiberglass corner piece for my C-10's left (drivers) rear corner? I have filled it in with foam, and fortunately it is in the closet, but it is still rather ugly... Garry in Kodiak |

Dodgeavion wrote: ![]() You may have measured .060 could be a variation, hard to say. I measured twice because I was expecting .060. Once I really got into deconstruction I decided in for a penny in for a pound. I'm reskinning my coach. So I'm raising the roof two inches by extending the rib legs two inches each. I'm also extending the cabover 12 inches. Ill still have an east west bed, just big enough for a queen without coming into the cabin. I'm also going to do the floor pack in aluminum. I'm in too deep not to. Ill always regret it if I don't. I currently have the floor pack out and sitting on the ground. Looking at how best to do it in aluminum. Sure would appreciate input on achieving that. Ideas? Ken Just ran across a Cayo-Deluxe that has the longer cabover with the "squared off" corners.... Just incase you wanted some more reference material!! Garry |
