After a year, I finally weighed and was heavier than I thought. We were 2/3 full on the black tank at weigh in. Steer Axle: 3480 -280 Drive Axle: 4560 +510 Trailer Axle: 7500 Gross Combined: 15540 -1560 Pin Weight: 1660 (1410 dry) Although it doesn't change the sticker, I had installed SuperSprings and Bilstein HD shocks. Will definitely get the HD Payload option next time, but the rig pulls and handles well. I will also empty my basement and give everything there a critical eye, plus fill the rear fresh water tank, but none of that will make up for 500 lbs over, although dumping the waste tanks will help some. * This post was last edited 05/08/13 03:37pm by SkiSmuggs * 2015 F350 XLT PSD 6.7 Crew Cab, Andersen Ultimate hitch 2012 Cougar High Country 299RKS 5th wheel, Mor/Ryde pinbox, 300w of solar

I have a 2011 Chevy Silverado Crew cab Z71 5.3 L 3.73 towing a 2012 Forest River Hemisphere Light 24 ft dry weight 7400. Here is my issue. I know I should have bought a 3/4 ton and planning on buying one next year. I am nervous I am, over weight. I went to a cat scale and here are the basic results they gave me. Wish they were in more detail. Truck Steer axle: 5800 Truck/Trailer steer axle: 6360 Drive axle: 7800 Total: 14160 My wife was not with me so I need to add her weight and my tanks were dry. Please advise..... Dave |

Please advise..... Dave What do you have in the bed of the truck??? 7,800# on the drive axle has to be a mistake, with my 5er hooked up my Ram only has 5,100# on the drive/rear axle. What I have figured out is the truck by itself weighs 5800 prior to the fifth wheel. Once i hook up the trailer the steer weight increases to around 6400. The trailer from what I can see weighs 7800. I am confused as well. They were not helpful at flying J. So if you add 7800 for the trailer and 6400 for the truck and pin weight it should total around 14200. This is all the help I can provide.

Maybe you could use the available worksheet and Weight Safety Report at Fifth Wheel St. to assist you in knowing your weights. From what I gather.....the steer axle is the truck weight itself and the drive axle is the weight of the trailer. I will have to go and get weighed again. I was confused as well. The total was 14160 for truck and trailer. That is why I weighed the truck itself..... 5800#.

Use the available worksheet at Fifth Wheel St. that details how to weigh correctly. |

So this is what I now understand. The front axle is 3152, rear 3683. Max tawr is 7000. Max per each axle is 3950. The hitch weight is 1035, dry load is 7420, cargo max 3420. The total for truck and trailer I weighted was 14160. Hope this clarifies things.

Just FYI Steer Axle, front wheels the ones that steer the truck Drive axle, back wheels the ones that make it move Trailer axles, weight on trailer axles, 1, 2, or 3. Hitch weight: Difference between the Drive axle weight when truck is weighed unhitched and hitched up to trailer. GCVWR: The whole banana... |
