Walter I have to ask you this question. Is there any German DNA in your history? Just something wild came into my mind that perhaps some of your family were of German descent. Not that it matters, but just wondering. You remind me of someone I used to know that was from Germany. He was a very smart man and quick wit with a quick sense of dry humor. MY mom thought he was a handsome devil with his white beard and lean statue. He smoked a pipe and I can still smell the odor of the tobacco he used. When he walked into a room all attention went to him. He missed the war as he escaped from Germany before Hitler began his campaign. He had some rank in the German military. I think he was in the navy and according to him saw what was happening in Germany and didn't want tp be a part of it and made his way to France before coming to the United States. He was interesting to talk with. Even as a kid I listened to his stories with awe and could not imagine all that he went through getting out of Germany. He was always looking over his shoulder d=for someone coming to take him back to Germany against his will. Interesting story. He kept a low profile in our city of Waynesboro. He felt safe there as if in a small town he could live the life he wanted without interference. Anyway that's my story for the morning.

We closed on our "new to us" home today. It is in a motorhome community and we are still going to travel, but we have a place to stay in the winter months and will get some doctors lined up here so if we have to stop for a bit for some medical stuff, we will be "home." Good morning everyone. Today has been a good day so far. I can read the computer screen and see what I am typing. It's cold outside with frost on the ground, but plenty of sunshine is burning it off. Just north of us sbpw fall was in their day's events/ WE won't see any of the white stuff according to our weather person. So far we are marching on toward Christmas with lots of hope and joy. It's strange that I have been thinking of a childhood even that included my parents and a friend of theirs. What I accepted as normal back then has raised questions in my mind lately. Just who were these people and what happened to them over the years. All I remember is their last name was Rosen and my folks would visit them at their home just outside of Waynesboro. This was back in the late 40's and early 50's. Mr/ Rosen looked just like the comedian Phil Harris. He used to fo some fo the jokes and act like him at times. There was a friend from Germany who would also be there to participate in the activities. As stated before in another post he and Walter are look a likes. I was about ten years old or maybe eleven or twelve years old at the time. but there was something about these friends that struck a memory nerve in my brain that I remember them so vividly. Anyway that was long ago and now far away. Walter you may be a ghost from my past as you remind me so much of him. Truly you can't look so much like a person and not be related in some way, it's mind boggling at times Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. |

Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful morning her in the Deep South. My sight is so much better today. Looking forward to Christmas and the gathering of the family. This year is going to be special as we anticipate the arrival of the first great grand baby. What a blessing this is going to be. the generations come together like a link in a chain. Each link represents a life and as the years press on new links are added to the chain until generations are liked together to make on long chain. I think back to all of my ancestors and the life they lived in making my life what it is today. It's amazing how each life adds to another's life and continues to buid and link together until we have these families that are so interconnected and entwined into each other. On y Dad's side og the family they were mostly farmers and livestock brokers. My mother's side of the family help build Waycross, Georgia and develop farms in the great okefenokee swamp. Granpa did what his dad did before him. Live off the land and made moonshine before turning to God and becoming a preacher. My Dad continued on as a car dealer as did my brother. I turned away from that to become a pastor of churches and a believer in the Gospel. MY son will continue in industrial construction with large heavy equipment. My first daughter has married a preacher while two of our daughters have become home makers and mentors to their children and grandchildren. Enough of this I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed ay. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. I guess my legacy will go to the dogs through the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue.

After all these years, you never mentioned that to me. ![]() In the other post you asked if I had any German ancestry, and indeed I do on my mothers side, which is just full of Germans. Perhaps your old acquaintance was a dopperganger of mine! I know I saw one about thirty years ago at, of all places, a bowling alley that we were in a league at. We passed each other by in the lobby/concession area going in opposite directions, and I swear it was like looking in a mirror. ![]() Walter & Garland - Camp Canine caretakers Miss Inga (aka "Shorty") - 10 y.o. old GSD. Good evening everyone. It's been a lazy day. The weather wasn't bad, just a little on the cold side, but a nice fire in the fireplace kept the house warm. It's bed time so I am going to call it a day, put the fur babies to bed and then myself. Walter I am glad you mentioned your German ancestry. It has been a long time since I have seen the person I mentioned. But I am betting you and he are related. He always wore a navy officers hat and I believe I saw him in an officer's jacket one time while he visited the Rosen's home. He was about sixty years old at that time, He must have been six feet tall or a little taller, slight build with white hair cut close and a white beard with blue eye. I remember him so well. His looks demanded attention. He had a deep laugh and was always busy doing something. He helped out in the kitchen with whatever needed doing and was so handy with the cooking. He could carve a chicken or turkey before you could take your could take your coat off. I wish I could remember his name, It was German nothing like Joe or Harry. It was like two last names put together. Anyway that's all I can remember about him. Okay I am going to bed. Have a good nigh rest and have a blessed day tomorrow. * This post was edited 12/04/19 07:45pm by Dixie Flyer * |

Good morning everyone. The eye sight is getting better. I have an appointment this morning with the eye doctor so we will find out what is going on. The fur gang is well and Allison's cat broke her leg somehow. Allison said she heard a loud noise coming from the bedroom where the cat was and after that the cat came out of the room on three legs. It was the large bone in the upper part of the leg that was broken. The vet said it was a clean break that required surgery and a cast. Anyway Olive is now wearing a cast after the surgery and seems to be doing okay. Still don't know what happened. Oaky I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. No bad weather in the forecast, just some rain showers Sunday and Monday with much cooler temps. Merry Christmas. |

Good Morning FOOFs Donna and I are heading to Boston this afternoon. The owner of her company got her 50 yard line tickets to see the Patriots play Kansas City. My wife is from Boston and her dad used to take her to Patriot games when she was a kid so she is really excited. I don't like cold weather and it is looking like the high temp on Sunday will be 39 degrees. The game is at 4:30pm so it's going to be way to cold for this Florida boy. The fur gang is doing well. Murphy turned 16 and 1/2 today. She still gets around pretty well but can't see or hear very well but she is still full of energy. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
