quietjake wrote: re: genset gas reserve: Snowman: Since I'm so new to this 213, barely a few weeks and but one camp trip down, I have some catching up to do. I was specifically told by my previous owners there WAS some kind of reserve built in but they were sketchy on the details. So far the biggest issue I've had is one of the stainless steel wheel covers clicks noisily each revolution. My tire shop isolated the noise. We took the cover off, and voila!~ no noise!!! But.....someone had tried to repair it before with duct tape. There's a couple of the riveted areas seem rather loose. I tried the old 'mash=em' together which changed their looseness, but didn't stop the noise. Next plan is super glue, as there is nothing functional as far as I can tell, to worry about.... unless you have a different remedy. I'm in Oregon & plan a a LOT of short trips in this. Been dragging TT around for 30+ years. The 213 handles like a sports car & rides like a limosine. Haven't had the 6.0L chev V8 before. Cheers....and any tips on owner maintenance is welcomed. For the sake of 'reading ease' I tried to respond to this a few days ago but got the dreaded RED MESSAGE, since I tried to insert my responses into Jake's post. Instead I will respond in a boring way, which is what I'm doing here. CATCHING UP: no worries Jake, we all were there. doesn't make you a bad person! RESERVE/GENSET ISSUE: The manual states the Gen will shut down at 1/4 tank, as did the dealer. It did happen to me once. HUBCAPS: Gene covered some of this in a succeeding email. I also had the Pacific Dualies for the same price. They are a great bang for the buck. As for the noise, I had it too. The answer (which all would know if they owned a 1978 Scout2 is CLEAR SILICONE. Take off the cap, clean area thoroughly, apply silicone strategically to places where it will contact both cap and wheel, and reinstall. Let cure overnite, and the sound is gone. Any that squeezes out to be visible can be wiped off before it cures. RIVETS? where? RIDE, ETC: yes it does ride/drive great and is terrific for short trips. The Chevy V8 is a great engine. It was the first vehicle I ever had with 300 hp!

Burl, I took a photo, below. My trim is not glued on. The center piece is held by 3 screws on each end. Each side piece is held by the 3 screws where it meets the center piece, and 2 screws on the gray furry end panel. Those 2 screws are under the gray button caps. There are actually snaps there under those caps, with the screws in the middle. You have to pry the furry caps off to get to the snap & screw. So assuming you are talking about removing the side pieces, take off those 5 screws. Oh, the towel was shoved in behind the center trim piece. Maybe there are towels shoved into the side areas too! I've never taken off that trim to look. Heck, maybe TL shoved the towels in, lol. ![]()

Hi guys, the last two posts seem like deja vu. I had the same problem. I removed the headliner because of the wire noise. In addition, when I rebuilt my tv box, I had most everything out, but did not remove the floor. I did find from underneath, that there was some kind of wood support. My steel roof used to rattle too. I eliminated most of it by siliconing the wires to either the roof or the head liner. I then judiciously used spray foam insulation, AND ran a few screws thru the roof into whatever solid wood I found. I also had another 'wire noise'. In the curved gray vertical panel behind the dr. seat, and in the front of the coach, I found about 50' of unused wire, that was for the rear camera. It was just laying/hanging there, shaking around. I got annoyed at that and cut out all the excess, leaving a short piece of slack, then soldered the wires back together. I then (of course) silicone and ziptied it in place. Ahh...one less noise!! btw, I wrapped all of the loose interior parts of the microwave in bubble wrap. |

We are closing in for my issue, I think, and wording is partly at fault OK, to be clear, the wires I always thought were Daniel and Cheeze’s focus were big coils of cables behind the TV just laying loose for satellite, camera, whatever…I only addressed those in the past I was telling Martha just before posting right now that maybe the headboard rattle we hear so loudly with so little a tap sounds like wires to the dome light. Are these the wires you guys are saying exist? Snowman, I would only want to remove the horizontally curved C trim in the trim in front of the center caninet, as in your pic. Do I need to remove those big side flanks w/ buttons to do this? So grateful to hear of no glue! * This post was edited 07/27/13 08:07am by burlmart * 2005 Trail Lite 213 B-Plus w/ 6.0 Chevy

It is the dome wire. Small but big when it has a sounding board. The sun visors are the main "holder" of the headliner.

My side flanks to the floor each have 3 bottons across the top, and 4 going down. So if I only remove the top 3 on each side the C trim easily comes off to get at these wires? Could I try and work thru the dome light? If so, how do you remove it as I saw no screws. I'm anxiously excited about finally getting this. |

Alas, Snowman I blew up your image and see it is not done like mine - I actually saw one of the screws on top of your trim, whereas, I have maybe a 2 piece trim and no screws ![]() I am thinking dome lite access and??? |

I'm anxiously excited about finally getting this. believe it or not the sunvisors are the only 'screwed in' object holding the headliner. There's a plug that you have to pry out to unscrew them. The center 'brackets' that the center peg of the sunvisor snaps into is one of these 'push in' things that has wings to hold it in place. I don't remember the details, tho' I expect my method was "play with it till it comes out". With some probing and pulling, the headliner will then come down on your head, since it only rests on the sides and there is NO trim holding it above the windshield. I guess that's what the dark band across the window is for!! ![]() You will then be clear to drill screws thru the top. If do research, you will find that many BT Cruiser owners had similar problems, including the cap squeaking against the cab, hence the screws. |
