Herschel is a cute dog. I've always been a bit afraid of big dogs untill the past few years. Probably because I got bit by a big dog? You think? ughhhh Anyway I'm glad your dogs seem too travel well. Our neighbor talked us into taking their full blooded Jack Russell. They had named her 'Betty-boop' and so we left the name. She was not even a year old yet and we didnt want too confuse her. SHE rides very well. She loves it. Our Ellie (half Jack and half Beagle) doesnt ride well AT ALL. IF I hold her she does ok but as you know that is probably not a good idea. I do hold her for short rides. I have a car seat I put her in BUT she slobbers, she pants hard, she throws up. She is now over 2 years old and the scenerio is the same. I think riding actually scares her too death. I know she's not car sick because if you stop and offer her food she will eat. She only throws up, I think, because she works herself up into a frinzy...ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... I so wish there was something I could do for her for she is the very best dog I've ever had. She is so obedient, such a good good dog where as Betty is quite a hand full and very loud. That is WHY we do not take her many places. She stays with the people who gave her too us. Our Ellie goes EVERYWHERE we go but then as I said I MUST hold her or she freaks out... ANY SUGGESTIONS? We love our motorhome. It is much much much more peaceful, quiet and fun than any motel I've ever been in~!!! |

But if you hold her she doesn't get sick? Is her line of vision different when she is in your lap or in her car seat? Other that that I suggest talking with a vet. There may be a anti anxiety med that would help her get more comfortable/calm while traveling. Think of the meds some people have to take to travel!

lol funny you mentioned the vet. We DID ask the Vet. He said she would get over it. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh but she did not. Her line of vision is no different. The car seat is in the passengers seat when I am driving. She looks out the window, looks at me, slobbers, hyperventilates etc. ..... We even went too Petco and purchased an 'anxiety cream substance' that is suppose too taste like Peanut butter and she is suppose too like it and it help calm her. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeel so much for THAT. As a last resort..LAST resort we may have too give her a small amount of benadryl liquid when we go on long trips. I can't be holding her like 6 too 8 hours. It is even dangerous holding her one or two hours and I know that. On longer trips I have gone too the back, set on the sofa and held her and YES she does ok that way too. Not feeling the comfort of my arms is when she seems so scared. I call her my little scardie dog... lol ... I so wished she traveled well like our Betty-boop. She mostly just looks around or sleeps... lol Anyway when my husband saw your dog in the front seat of your motorhome he, like me, was smiling. Your dog seems too love riding. Even when we just start up an automobile too move? Betty=boop runs up and jumps in. Ellie? She runs the other way... ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh |

Jeannie Sorry to hear of your Beagle mix's issue w/ travel. Perhaps a folding kenned while en route to maybe give the pup a sense of enclosure/safety. After our black dog, Happy, died, our Beagle mix, Peanut, has started jumping and staying in my lap as soon as we start moving for the whole trip. I am not the driver, and so far am tolerating her, but she is 45 lbs... 2005 Trail Lite 213 B-Plus w/ 6.0 Chevy

fourty five poundsssssssssssssssss? lol At least Ellie fluctuates between nineteen and twenty pounds. Folding Kenned? You mean one of those cage type things? IF so then I guess she's really spoiled. We DID try crate trainning her early on but she was a completed mess with that. I think that scared her more than the car seat... ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I know you guys are trying too help. I DO appreciate it...I REALLY DO...!!! So far we've tried everthying you guys have suggested. THAT is WHY we are 'beside ourselves' in knowing what too do for our precious Dog. Ellie is the perfect dog in every other way. She rarely ever barks. She loves people, other dogs, walking. She even waits for her food bowl while I am giving Betty hers. She NEVER tries too take over or take Betty's food. I've NEVER had a dog like THAT...She is such an obedient, submissive dog... That is why it hurts me because I dont know how too help her..

Regarding using Benadryl.....I use it frequently with Herschel during allergy season, if his ears sudden "bloom" up and get itchy. It keeps him from scratching them and getting secondary infections. I use the plain 25mg generic pink tabs ...make sure that there are no other cold or pain ingredients in the product... just the benadryl tab. A lot of the "dog" folk use it just like we use it for ourselves, for minor issues that save on doc bills/$$$ and their prescription/$$$$! It is worth a try.

And...Herschel's weight runs between 55-60 pounds and I give him 2-3 tabs depending upon how severe his allergy reaction is!

lol... I guess peanut and Herschel would have a very difficult time sleeping on my bed with me. It is barely big enough for me but also large enough for Ellie and Betty=boop. Even then sometimes Ellie is punching me in the ribs with her feet...lol IF I were very skinny she would probably kick me out of the bed...lol I must get off the puter now... I have so many things too do today... THANKS for the 'chatts' ...I really DID ENJOY THEM... |

New Kitchen Flooring After an unfortunate bacon grease incident, we decided to replace the kitchen area flooring in our TrailLite 211S. Used the Trafficmaster Allure often recommended on these forums. Took just one box of the planks. We just cut the carpet out and, as a result, did not have a lot of staples to deal with, mainly along the back door. ![]() Staples: ![]() We found matching vinyl-covered trim at Home Depot. Here it is finished: ![]() Also replaced the vinyl mini-blinds with home-made roman shades (I know, passe!) made of a lined faux-suede material. Maybe a little less privacy, but nsulating, and light-blocking. Velcroed the blinds to the 1x2 header for easy removal. Blind open, dinette side: ![]() Blind closed, sofa side: ![]() Regards to all, Kelly |
