Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: FrugalFreak on 07/21/08 06:42pm

Hello All "Vintage Class C Dodgers". I just aquired a 79 22' Brougham on a 78 Dodge Sportsman with a V8 318 motor. I also am having to do restoration work on mine. It has 38,234 original miles.
This is my Brougham Class C. I want to do a full restore eventually. This year it also qualifies for a vintage tag. I still have all original documentation/schematics for Dodge, Duo-therm AC, Kohler Generator, furnace, Etc that came with it. I paid $1000 for mine.

Any Advice on used/surplus parts??

I just got a 24' 1978 dodge tioga and I am trying to find information about this unit to include wiring info. I am having problems with the charging system so i pulled the alternator and had it tested, came back as good 3 times. One of the smaller wires on the back (green) isnt even hooked up to anything, so that might be the problem, I just dont know where it should go. I have been looking online trying to find some answers and lucked upon this great website. Also compounding the problem is that the data plate says dodge and the model is a F40. does this make any sense? Its the original data plate from the inside of the truck door. Thanks for any help.

Post the first 8 digits of the 13 number VIN on the data plate where you found the F40 model number. This will help us get you some more information on the specific chassis/engine.

For the house portion you can e-mail Fleetwood customer service with the complete RV number located on a white data sticker on the inside of the drivers door on the fender. The number should be something similar to: 52K47168S8326. The number may be identified as "VEH IDENT NO:"" (not VIN). Fleetwood should be able to get you the wiring diagrams and specific installed options for the house using that number.

Welcome!

To start with, F40 = MB400

as Ken said, post the first 8 digits and we'll tell you more.

Thanks for the quick reply. Well the first 8 numbers on the data plate are F44CD7V0. The white sticker number was a little different though, it is G072048S6429. I will contact fleetwood and see what i can get from them. Thanks for the help.

F44CD7V0

F4=MB400
4=Hi Line Wagon or MB4 Hi Line
C=GVW 10001 lbs
D=440-1
7=1977
V=Warren assembly plant
0=digit #1 of the assembly number

Dodge makes the chassis and has to give it an identity, hence the VIN number. Fleetwood has to give it an identity and uses a numbering system all their own, hence the G07 number.

FrugalFreak,
Cool Brougham, I have a 74 that I picked up last year. Mine didn't have any manuels with it so you are lucky. Have fun with you project.... A.

I don't think anyones dying statement ever contained the words "I wish I had spent more time in the office", so lets go somewhere!

Damned Leeann, you beat me to it. [emoticon]

There is some doubt about the engine... I've been told that Dodge never put the -1 HP engine in the RV chassis, but every thing I've found so far (without checking the lower right block) says they did.

The only sure way is to look at the plate on the front right side of the block just below where the heads sit. This is a PIA if the engine is in the chassis.
