Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: RckyMtnTJ on 11/25/07 12:04am

Seeing a post on here about seatbelts got me wondering. We just got our C Class Dodge and one of our top priorities for the winter is getting it set up for seatbelts for the kids. There are none in the back right now. There is a water tank in the forward facing dinette seat, and that is where we want to put the kids. We have room to put a frame around the water tank. My question is, how did you guys setup your vintage Dodge's for seatbelts? Do you have any pics?

Thanks,

Jeff N

I can take photos of mine, but it came with seatbelts from the factory.

If no one else comes up with them, I'll take some for you.

Hi RckyMtnTJ,

I have a '77 Chinook. The seatbelts are bolted right to the floor with a hole drilled through and with a pretty hefty bolts. I don't know if this is how they were made, but when I had it all apart doing repairs, I made sure they were secure.

They come up through some holes notched in the back of the cover(plywood 1/2") over the water tank (support for the seat).

Sorry no pics, no time to take it all apart right now. Maybe later..Hope this helps.

My "77" Dodge had seat belts factory installed in both dinette seats. Problem was, they are just bolted to the 2x4s across the back bracing of the seats. That sure sounds safe to me [emoticon]. So I've taken them out til I can build a stronger frame work for them. I'd hate to have them used and have people think they're safe....Jerry

I think I'm going to beat Leeann on this one... [emoticon]

This is mine above the fresh water tank on the rear facing dinette seat. Looks like 1/8 inch strap bolted to the floor and "wrapped" around the tank.

Gee Leeann... Two RVs with OEM parts mounted the same way. What will RV builders think of next. [emoticon]

Thanks for the pics. That looks like a good solution for mine too [emoticon]. I'll have to get started when the weather gets a little warmer here in Idaho [emoticon]....Jerry

Travco probably had 6 lap belts in it. With most of the interior gutted, they're out.
All bolted to the 3/4" floor on one side and the steel side frame on the other. Sensible, stout.

When you go to buy new seat belts, check Army surplus stores first.
New, excellent quality, very adjustable, dirt cheap. Always grey.

The lap belts for my Tioga are only for the sofa sleeper. There is a sticker stating CLEARLY that no one should occupy the dinette seats when in motion.

My belts clip onto a series of brackets mounted low on the wall behind the sofa, all steel, and completely removable. This is a 1973 model, and it's STOUT! Strangely enough, I still have the belts, too!
