Topic: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Posted By: Tzvi on 08/22/07 03:02pm

Hi, can anyone help me with info for a replacement generac generator for a 1977 Dodge Delta. The third place we took it told us they also don't have parts to fix it. Points, condenser, etc. the engine works but the electric doesn't give out anything Thanx.

You'd be better off buying a used RV genset - an Onan, Kohler or Generac - from a used parts place / junkyard / RV Salvage yard. Or on craigslist. If you need new, the easy route is to find one you can tote along somehow, after you ensure it's got enough amps to start up your AC and whatever else you'll use it for.

If your generator will not put out any voltage at all, check for blown fuses or circuit breakers before you give up on it.

Eric...
First, how far did the flooding get? Is it still raining like freaks in so WI? It did in OH,not here, we are in the hills. But my friend's Cadillac was covered halfway up its doors in water Tues morning.

Yeah, insurance is playing around. '01, 29K, perfect car, but she paid cash for it, so why pay off quick if the bank's not on your butt to do so?

I'll call him, you mail him. Then we compare notes.
He'll be a lot more forthcoming with you, whatcha wanna bet. But bet I don't want anything's been under water. Even a little bit...

The Travcos are cool, my mom always liked them.
Maybe I'll buy it just to name it "Peg."

re: Generator.
Take Leeann's advice and look for parts. Carbuators are common issues, so are points --fuel & spark, first 2 things to look for.
Ask at your local vocational school, school will be starting next week and the Seniors need a good rebuild project.

Tzvi,

Is there a plate or sticker with any information on it, like
numbers, codes or ratings? Or even a brand name? Lacking that, if
you can post a pic of the unit I may be able to help you.

The genhead (big electric motor looking part of the genset} rarely goes bad, the windings and armature can be tested for continuity,
brushes and springs can be checked for contact and wear. The box
containing the genset's output electrical components and connections
may need to be checked. All connections to the unit- to coach power panel, remote start station, etc need to be tested for continuity.
If the engine runs good and parts to tune it are available, do a little research and check things carefully.

My Onan 4.0 CCK unit still choogles along at 1800 rpm, and carries
all its loads with aplomb, in spite of it being 30+ years old.
And if it is an Onan, I may be able to help you even better. From
doing research on mine I have some good resources and contact people
at Cummins-Onan. We have a large regional unit close to Tulsa.

Let me know.

^ Mark - they said it's a Generac....

My Onan CCK 4.0 chugs along too, even though it's 34 yrs old. Doesn't care what load we put on it, either.

Just out of curiosity....have you checked that your shore power cord is plugged into the box in the generator compartment? The generator can't feed your house without the cord plugged into it (later models had automatic switches).

Hi again. I don't have too much information on the generator except that it wasn't giving out the amount of electric that it needed to. I bought the MH a few months ago and havent taken it out even once yet. A few mechanics have been getting it set up for me (that was the condition that I bought it). The generator is the last item before they hand the MH over to me. This has been as agravating to them as it has been to me. I have been enjoying this thread for quite a few months and look forward all your information in the future. thanxs

Tzvi

We're glad you're here, and reading the posts. Hopefully the unit
can be repaired. When you can, though, post some pictures of your rig!

D'oh!!

I guess I'm thinking okie style- dang near everything generator
here is called either a Generac or an Onan. But I do remember
one being called a Studebaker... along with a string of "colorful
metaphors", as Spock would say...

my bad...

How about a model number or the numbers off the alternator. Some parts are still available for the older Generac's

I have then Generac TXP45 Model: 6931-1. The data plate is mounted on the alternator as stated above. Without the model number there isn't much we can do to help.

Manuals are available on-line from Generac for most of the older models.

Hey Leeann,

I have a line on an old CCK (best friend says she'll give it to me if I come and get it)... Do you have a copy of the manual I could get?

Ken
