The beauty of building a box out of 2x4s and plywood is you end up with a 3-1/2" high "basement" for storing stuff. Fishing poles, ladder, hoses, the tow strap, tools.... The possibilities are ENDLESS!
2x4 on edge is about 3-3/8" plus 23/32" (what they call 3/4") ply is about 4".

its a good idea to use the space created----------but if your camper drops over the back of your truck bed-----like ours-----how would you access it ? (without removing the camper)
