Do you mean when do new hardware devices like Kindles tend to come out? There is a big rush to get items out before the Christmas season, by mid November. Otherwise devices tend to appear at big trade shows which occur every few months. There are rumors that a new version of the Kindle Fire will be out before summer.
The truth of the matter is that you just buy one when you are ready, there will always be a better one down the road and if you wait you'll never get one. For Kindles anyway you can find 300-500 free books released every day. These are released as free limited number of copy items and when they are gone the price will bounce up to the list price.

With both Christmas and the Consumer Electronics Show finished, it will probably be MONTHS before any new eBook readers are released.

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

In my experience the newer upgraded version of anything generally comes our about 2 weeks after I've purchased it.

This week Wal Mart is selling the Kindle Fire for $199 and with it you get a Wal Mart $50 gift card. I wonder if Wal Mart has a bunch of Kindle Fires that they want to get rid of before the new one comes out.

If you want a book reader then you are better off with a pure Kindle like the Touch rather than the Fire. They are easier to read, and the battery lasts all week. The Fire of course has color and other features.
I'd expect any new Kindles and Fires to be evolutionary changes not something completely new. Of course it's always a good idea to wait for the second version of a new system like the Fire tho. Maybe they'll add a memory card slot if nothing else.

If an e-reader is something you desire, just go to Walmart and buy one while they are running a deal. I think the reason they have them on special is because they bought huge volumes (as Walmart so often does) prior to Christmas expecting to sell a gazillon and make a fortune off them. Problem was, now everybody is selling them, like Target, etc. and they didn't sell as many as they hoped. Now they are hung with truckloads.
I bought the original Kindle 1 when they first came out and it still works like the day I bought it-fantastic. No need to upgrade everytime a new one comes out. They all read books wonderfully! Mine goes with me everywhere.

I don't think anyone here knows what and why Walmart does anything.
As others have suggest, buy it when you want it. If you want to have the Fire than right now at Walmart is a good buy and use the Walmart card to buy Kindle books.

Look at it this way....DW has read 34 "free" books since she got her fire. At $5.00 per book, that's $170. she has saved. Net cost of the fire to date is $29.00 If she keeps going the fire will have paid her before a new model comes out. Take the Wal*Mart deal and start saving. Life it too short to always be waiting.
