We have the Carefree Travel'r with the flat pitch, which most folks will agree is as worthless as . . . use your own favorite simile here. Personally, I think it would be a lot better if it had some pitch to it. Apparently others do too, considering that Carefree markets replacement arm assemblies to make the pitch adjustable. These are sold for a very reasonable 800 bucks or so.
Our non-adjustable awning has the "auto dump" feature (I'm not too fond of the name and the mental picture that it conjures, but it is a fairly apt description). Now, this feature works when the awning gets heavy enough with water, snow, etc., that the weight overcomes the gas springs that are attached to the arm assemblies. So question: how about remounting the gas springs so that they do not hold the awning up so high? Would this serve to somewhat lower the outer side of the awning (sort of in a permanent 'dump' position)?
I'm not at home to look at my awning. But when I get there this afternoon, I'm going to play with it a bit to see if this may be feasible. Of course, the other thought is to shorten the lower arm of the scissor mechanism. However, I'm afraid this might cause binding.
