I have a cummins 5.9 isb on a '02 Newmar w/83k miles. I am currently parked for the snowbird season, on concrete. I can see what appears to be 4 oil drips on the concrete. I crawled under and I can see evidence of a leak, but I am so engine ignorant it's pitiful. So, when the season is over, I will take it to Cummins Coach Care - but I would appreciate any input about oil leaks - what, where, why, and HOW MUCH $$$$. I had the coach serviced by cummins in Nov, prior to traveling from NJ to FL for the winter. There was no indication of a leak at that time. Thanks for any insight you can offer to the mechanically challenged.

I had a significant oil leak on my b 5.9 last season.I found a couple of the timming cover bolts loose. I tightened them and no more leak. It could be the oil pan has some loose bolts. Cummins will certainly find the leak. If it just tightening some bolts and a few hrs to diagnose you will probably be charged about 85.00 per hr. (don't hold me to it)You can save some money if you are willing to crawl around and try to locate the leak or general area and a bunch more if you take a torque wrench and check the oil pan, timming cover and the gasketed areas. In the end if you find the leak and don't want to mess with it at least you can point out the spercific area and ask for an estimate.

i don't have a motorhome, but do have a 5.9l in my truck.

I have a small leak on my rear main seal..

I don't see drips on my driveway, but i do have moisture on the bottom of the bell housing. Dealer has looked at it and said they don't believe it is worth fixing yet. Considering it would be on my dime, I appreciated that...

the front seal is sometime known to leak. If it looks oily on the front cover, chances are thats the problem. If just a few drops I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on oil level.

You have a draft tube that may or may not have a catch bottle. This tube is from the crankcase vent system and it's normal for it to drip oil if it doesn't have a bottle or if the bottle is full (should be emptied at oil change).

I would second the road draft tube.

If it's a new leak and not obvious anywhere else probably the draft tube.

FWIW, our 5.9 developed a leak within two weeks after we bought it. The previous owner just had it serviced. The oil filter wasn't tight. Tightened it up and it is dry as a bone. Worth a shot to check.
