My 5er has a Dometic refrigerator that has had one recall done. I am looking at a used MH that has a Norcold fridge. What is the latest on the fire problems with these units? Has the problems been solved so that it is safe to use them?

Plenty of discussions on this hidden in that search box. One of the latest is more about the failures of the Norcold recall boxes. Most of the fires are with the four door Norcold 1200s and in the above link I have a post that lets you see why the Amish replacement cooling units are better than the orginal Norcold ones. The Norcold 1200 need all the help they can get and putting one in a slide makes it difficult to get enough air flow for it to work OK.

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

I hope Doug is correct, but this is only because of the recall box that is supposed to shut the unit down when it overheats and hopefully before it catch's on fire.
Doug, the hundreds (probably thousands) of RVer who lost their rigs because of these fires would disagree. What revision of this box is Norcold on? I know it's number three or more.
The problem with the 1200s is because of a poor design for a 12cu ft refer. Look at the difference in the bottom coils in these two links. The Amish ones have a pair of coils that fill up the bottom half of the unit. The Norcold coil only fills part of the area and is the same size as a 6 cu ft Norcold.

This doesn't have anything to do with the recall, but might be worth noting. I have a Norcold N621 refrigerator in my MH and the door gasket is shot. I just found out that it cannot be replaced, you have to order the whole door panel. Don't know about the other models.

There is an aftermarket Halon fire extinguisher you can buy for about $160 + shipping that you install behind the refrigerator. This would at least give peace of mind should something untoward happen.

I ordered a Halon fire extinguisher to mount behind the fridge a few days ago.
